Piecing Together the 'NewStorm'
The Carolina Hurricanes have been giving us a sneak peek at their new home and road uniforms by way of a series of teaser photos on Instagram. Every few days I'm taking the time to get us caught up on what's been revealed so far — in case you don't follow them on Instagram or me on Twitter.
Between Thursday and Sunday, we got the four images above. They show us a new striping pattern (perhaps on the sleeve), a new collar and a new name and number font, which I believe to be the following.
It just so happens to match the font used for the hashtag (#NewStorm) seen in each of their Instagram posts. It's much simpler and cleaner. And isn't that the trend these days?
Since Monday we've gotten these previews. The shot of the glove and pants show us a lot of red. A lot. Almost a Red Wings amount of red. The white jersey photo appears to give us a possible glimpse of the sleeve striping. And today's seems to show the waist striping of the new home sweater. A new double stripe?
From what we've seen so far, it's definitely looking like a more traditional hockey sweater — at least compared to what the Canes have been wearing since they moved from Hartford in 1997.

Serious question: how can we tell if the stripes are white stripes on the home jersey or red stripes on the road jersey?
Until evidence to the contrary emerges, #NewStorm = #CarolinaRedWings.
What is the name of the font believed to be used on the jersey? I'm searching and can't find it's equivalent.
Kevin Y: Good point. Because of the apparent size of the top white stripe, that makes me think it's the white jersey. But I could be wrong.
ThePlayfulPuck: Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
Albert: To me, it looks pretty close to Zurich.
Probably one of the best campaigns I've ever seen to release a jersey.
It does look like the Cane's new jerseys are "traditional", but let's get real here......"traditional" is so boring! "Traditional" makes me want to yawn.
The numbering looks familiar...yes, it looks similar to what the Portland Trailblazers of the NBA have, only minus the excessive shadowing.
I'm worried it is going to be way to Red Wings-ish, but I guess we'll see...If it is, I expect fans to complain until they get some more black like the Lightning fans.
I suspect there's black under the two red stripes around the waist. Won't be too close to the Red Wings.
It looks to me as if the hurricane "flushing toilet bowl" logo is on the shoulders of these jerseys. Which makes you wonder what is on the front. Hopefully it is the flag logo, and not some kind of awful Dallas / Islanders style script.
Goddamn, the new look appears awful!
Good call on the Trailblazers font Peter
looks like they took out the storm flag stripe, this makes me sad
David Kerr - It's going to remain the team's primary logo. I doubt that they'd relegate their primary logo to the shoulders.
doesn't it appear to be the same font used when they hosted the All Star game in `11?? http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/large_lightbox/hash/e2/34/e2342b792dc57bfe6d33a62043236d28.jpg?itok=W5rec9ZV
Looks like the team Canada jersey http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0G9Vw2177sE/UNOJvIeledI/AAAAAAAAi2w/CguzGl1i028/s1600/canada.jpg
@David Kerr, the Hurricanes logo is on the front not the shoulders.
Anyone made some concepts yet? I'm getting a little dallased out
Bryan Dyck: I do have some Hurricanes concepts now. Those should be up early next week.
Maybe its just me, but the teaser picture for the jersey numbers on the red background look like they actually might be silver with a black border...
if so, that would be pretty nice.
sick!
