No New Division This Week
I'm holding off on releasing a new division this week because I'm concerned not enough of you are interested in designing jerseys for the IceHL project. With less than a week remaining to submit uniforms for the Southeast Division, I've received only one eligible entry.
This is troubling and it makes me question whether we should bring the IceHL project to an early end and start on something fresh. I'm eager to hear your feedback on this, but not in a poll. Leave a thought-out comment below and let me know how you feel.
End the IceHL and start something new? Or be patient and extend the deadline on the Southeast Division uniform submissions? Your call.
I'm really appreciating the feedback guys! Glad to know it's not the project that's turning people off but the technicalities. Let's fix this! All you Illustrator designers out there, it's up to you now.
Let's put a hold on the uniform designs, and let's put together an awesome template! It needs to include all of the same elements in the Photoshop template, but let's have it all vector-based and easy to edit. If that's what it takes to get this show on the road, I'm all about it!
Take a week or two and send in some templates. We'll vote and the best one will be used for the rest of this project. And the winner will get his/her name in lights! (So start assembling your online portfolio if you haven't already.)
To the few of you that have already submitted artwork in the Photoshop format, you can stick with what you sent or resubmit after we get this new Illustrator template.

I am downloading the packet...and will be working on a submission for Baltimore, Washington and Atlanta. I'm new to photoshop...so the deadline is a little daunting.
likewise, i'm new to photoshop, so its all a bit over-welming...
I downloaded the template and was disappointed to find it was a Photoshop PSD image and not a vector-based, editable Illustrator AI file. That would make it a lot easier to create the uniforms.
Still, I'll try to give it a go.
I've start something, it's almost done...I think you should extended the deadline
I love the IceHL project. I just fear that my skills are no where near that of others to create a good design.
I believe if you don't get sufficient entries by next week, the deadline should be extended. It would be a waste to go through all of this and have the project end with no jerseys. This may well be the best project on this blog in quite some time, and good things need time to develop.
I'll try to design a set of jersey for all 30 teams. It's my specialty after all. Just gotta have my mom fix her computer first.
Well is a week really enough time? A lot of people have things to do. Another thing you have to remember is the massive delay in the project. When did you ask for the logos? Like the beginning of the 2008-09 season at least. I bet most of the guys who sent in logos have forgotten about the project. And this site probably doesn't have the same following it had a year ago. Plus the IceHL info doesn't even show on the main page so I'm thinking a good 20% of the people who visit this site don't even know about the project. It's not that people don't want to do it, it could be that not enough people know about it.
Its easy for me to say don't end the project because I love the idea of the jersey designs but I can imagine how difficult it is to put the time into creating these jersey designs. However I know that anything you have planned for icethetics will kick ass chris so I dont mind either way.
Overall whatever is better for icethetics overall. If we doend IceHL can you put all the winning designs in one post. Maybe on a map, it would be a cool way to sum up this project which so far as been nothing short of awesome.
It would be unfortunate to just end the project now. But if that's the alternative, maybe lax the submission requirements? Maybe that's just me trying to sneak in without having to upgrade/learn the tech.
I would make a design if i didn't have to use photoshop.
i'm working on Tampa bay and others.. but my computer is giving me fits
Please DONT cancel it.
Your stricter requirements for this round has probably eliminated some of the designers. I think alot of people had already made up drafts in other formats.
Also, designing a home & away jersey, as well as a few separate alphabets on someone else's template takes time.
Add that to the opening of the NHL season and the time of year (alot of people starting school, holidays almost here, etc) and its not surprising there aren't more submissions yet.
Some might be like me and are more interested in designing some of the other divisions.
Extend the date and give us some time.
The IceHL is STILL a great idea and I think we all appreciate you, Chris. Sometimes I wonder how you have the time to do so much here on Icethetics. Please keep it alive.
Hey Chris. I'm working on a Nighthawks jersey. I think as it gets closer to the deadline, you'll see more entries.
by limiting submissions to photoshop users you lose a considerable number of people in my opinion...
I can say that i don't own photoshop but do own illustrator so if you could at least expand to that program then youd at least have one more person.
Extend the deadline.
I guess it takes longer to design decent Uniforms then Logos
I saw the packets and got really excited. I downloaded it and went to open it, before telling me the jersey template could only be opened in Photoshop (something i didnt have, as i use other programs).
i was not gonna go buy PS just for it. so i didnt :(
I mean lets be honest I'd love to participate, but the way to make these jerseys are way too tedious to finish at least one for each team in two weeks. We have to make all the lettering and crap, why does that even matter. If it's going to be this ridiculously detailed artists won't want to take part. I'll give it a try, but I will hate every second I'm making a freaking alphabet for each team.
Also the template sucks because it is horribly unorganized and only looks good. This just put me off of this project completely and all future projects if it is used for any of them and not fixed. Why must you make every project so complicated that you can't even make anything for it, that's sad.
