In 1978, the California Seals lineage ends as the struggling Cleveland Barons merge with the Minnesota North Stars leaving the NHL with just 17 teams. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks make their first of many logo changes to come throughout their history and the New York Rangers update their shield to the version we know today.
