View NHL Map 1982—1988 in a larger map

Two decades of expansion and instability begin to subside with the relocation of the Colorado Rockies to the east coast as the New Jersey Devils in 1982. Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs update their crest once more to the form that still exists today.

Then in 1984, the St. Louis Blues add red trim to their logo and uniforms.

Just wanted to say that I love this part of your site. It's the NHLs history in Google Maps form. Can't wait to see the 90s and 2000s. Keep up the fantastic work.

Just thought I should mention that in 1985, the Canucks moved away from their Flying V's and moved their Skate crest to the front of their jersey.
