New Lightning Logo Coming!
Thursday · Jul 5 · 2007 | 2:53 PM PDT 3 Comments
Well, we'll just have to see if it's new. According to St. Petersburg Times Lightning beat writer Damian Cristodero mentioned the other day in the paper that the Bolts will be unveiling a "modernization" of the logo "some time this summer." No word yet on when, but I'm pretty excited.
I understand there won't be sweeping changes. Minor upgrades is what "modernization" sounds like to me. And that's fine. Just make them count. I'll have the updates here.

Why is everybody so down on the current Lightning logo? I think it looks sharp! These "leaked" logo possibilities for Tampa look ok , but are not as classy. I believe they will not improve on the current logo or jersey. But having said that MOST of the teams will be looking very foolish skating around in these "new uniform system" tights, what a disaster!
Hey, thanks for the comment! To be fair, it really isn't everybody. I think I might actually be in the minority here. But I've been a Lightning fan since their first game in 1992. Over the last 15 years, I've gotten tired of looking at that logo.
Now I don't hate it. But I'm not a fan of writing out the team name in a logo which is meant to be a symbol for the team. I've always liked the shoulder logo. I'd be fine if they made it the primary.
But if http://nhllogos.blogspot.com/2007/07/possible-new-lightning-logo.html" REL="nofollow">these new designs are meant to be, I'd still be more a fan of the secondary mark than the primary. Plus the bolt in the new version looks a lot cooler — that much you have to admit.
As far as disasters go, you must've missed the whole Nike debacle years ago. Personally I don't have a problem with the sweaters the players currently wear but I can see reason for change. However, as I've said before, it's not really up to us as fans.
Yeah, we're all concerned with how our team looks on the ice, but it's really about the comfort of the players and it seems like most of them are on board with the new uniforms. So as unconditional fans, we need to just be happy for them.
Apologies for the extremely long reply. I'll try to keep it shorter next time. Again, thanks for the comment!
