Hey, Canada! Part 4
Thursday · Aug 23 · 2007 | 12:58 PM PDTYou know, one of the things I hate about living in Florida is that an occurrence like the one that arose yesterday in Canada would never happen here. Right there in the first block of the 6:00 news, CBC reported on what fans might expect for the new Toronto Maple Leafs uniforms.
First, let me be clear in saying that this is neither a leak nor an official unveiling by the team. This is a concept produced by good people of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, acting on information they'd received about what the Leafs' new Rbk EDGE jerseys might look like.
Look at that! A news reporter holding a picture of a speculative hockey jersey. I have a special dislike for Florida. Those vertical stripes you see going up the sides are silver, by the way.
In case you wanted one more look at the uniform design they came up with, I offer this. It better shows the thin vertical stripes going up and down the sleeves.
It's really something. I need to make a trip up to Canada one of these days. Just to bask in the hockey fever. It's not very contagious around these parts.
So now you should be able to understand my plight and why I spent the whole day today taking a pretend trip across the Great White North. You guys up there, you don't know how lucky you are. (Or maybe you do.)
Before I forget: Leafs fans, what do you think of these developments? Do you like these designs or does the team need to go in the horizontal stripe direction of the Bruins and Red Wings?

I would just like to inform you that this jersey is performance based and thus is only benefiting the team so that it can compete with the rest. If you could please hold you dislike of the jersey until its officially unveiled that would be splendid, we here at MLSE only hope that our fans will fall in love with the design in motion and not a drawn mock up. If you continue to not like it after the fact then no fear, I will be here ready to listen and give feedback to the right people about your complaint.

That thing looks like a practice jersey. If the Bruins and Red wings can "win" with the same uniform template as their old uni's, why can't we?
For a team that loves to think of themselves as the NY Yankee's of the NHL, they dont really show it through keeping a traditional look somehow I cant see the Yankees adding silver, or redoing their jerseys with a giant NY on the front.
Why they dont go back to the classic logo and design is beyond me. The sad thing is that if the jersey is as bad as the CBC mock up looks, idiots in Toronto will still buy it, and we'll be stuck with it for years.
I replied to their response asking how exacly the colour of the fabric would effect their performance.
I'm sure they think everyone is just stupid and doesnt want the RBK jerseys, not the design on the RBK jersey, so I made sure to clarify that.
Oh God please stick the Maple Leafs jerseys we all know and love. Is it me or do all these new jerseys look like RBK Practice jerseys?
And I think the Leafs will stick with it like the Bruins and Rangers.

I hate the RBK jerseys as a whole right now. I seriously cant imagine that it makes much difference.
It sounds like the Leafs are pretty much using the CBC jersey. Because if they weren't why would they urge everyone to wait until they see them? And that if people wait until they see them that they will be pleasantly surprised?
It also sounds to me like whoever answers those e-mails has a list of 4 or 5 replies they can make.
I'd hope so, or they just assume that Leaf fans are dumb. Because obviously there is no way the Leafs can be the only team to not go to the RBK edge jersey.
I fully intend on flooding their inbox if the jersey is indeed anything like the CBC jersey.
I'm getting a real kick out of all these so-called Leafs fans who are claiming that if the Leafs go to this new ugly concept jersey, they'll just switch teams. I hope that's hyperbole...otherwise, just switch now. Teams don't need "fans" like you.
