The final is going to be Canadiens vs. Oilers. And considering the dedication of Oil voters, they will have a good shot at winning this thing.

I don't think the Oilers are winning rounds because a bunch of homers are voting for them. They're winning because, for some reason, no matter how much better one logo is than the other, the older logo always gets the most votes.
That would explain why Oilers beat the blackhawks.
Aside from my sarcasm tho, I do agree that the older the logo, the more of an advantage it has, but there's good reason for that. It proves it can stand the test of time versus other logos which are being swapped more often than how much the average person buys a vehicle.
Additionally I'm a minimalist and value simplicity in design. Some people attempt belittle me by arguing that this makes me stupid that an "A with a swoosh of snow" is in no way complicated. A simple way to look at it: "is every line necessary, and with meaning. Is it easily recognizable." That kind of how I measure it. The way the snow converts into a hockey puck is kind of messy. With the Oilers logo, their name melts into oil and with 1 color. Simple.
Also, a lot of people claim the logo is very 70s. My response to that is, I assume you mean the font is 70s. Although, that may be true, I believe it's more like the standard sports font which will pretty much be timeless. You don't see it now, but in 50 years from now, when teams keep coming back to that "Varsity" font for sports sweaters, you will see what I mean.
The Oilers letters aren't stylized to symbolize dripping oil, its just a crappy 70's font that is kept around today because someone came up with a great way to explain the stupid look away.
Your right, the oil drop logo is brilliant. The alternate logo, not this crappy circle with the horrid font. If that one was in the poll, then I'd vote for it, but I can't vote for a logo that is still doing hippy dances as we speak.

i'm not mad or surprised that so many people are voting for the oilers. we'll just get them where it matters most, on the ice and with Ryan Smyth!
i am an avs fan and i have to go with the oilers logo. it's just classic and simple. it gets its point across with the oil drop and the oil slick beneath the name. can't beat it. as a designer i don't think people understand that a logo is about more than looking pretty. and the oilers concept beats the avs' anyday.

With your own comment, you proved your own ignorance. The oilers font does symbolize and oil slick, if you don't get that, well then, there's not much I can say to you since you probably won't absorb it anyways.
Well who cares who really wins... its a logo, everyone has their own opinion! Doesn't mean the winning of logos is the best team so get over it! And i'm a die hard avs fan and I don't care if we lose this lame contest lol

I absolutely despise both teams, so I'd say I'm unbiased here when judging between them. What it comes down to for me is the nostalgia of how the game used to be played that I get from the Oilers logo. The Avalanche, with their slick, almost cartoony logo, remind me of where the league started to go wrong (ie: expansion, relocation of key teams southward).
Chris - after hearing mentions of the likes of the Nordiques, how about a poll/polls for teams that no longer exist? Hartford, Winnipeg, Quebec, KC, the old Senators...
the oilers logo kicks so much ass it's not even funny. post-modern minimalism at its finest. it says everything about the team using basically nothing.

A logo should be simple enough that a twelve-year old can draw it on his notebook in middleschool. Think about that Van Halen logo - I didn't even like the band then but I could draw that thing in my sleep.

I'll take the Oilers logo any given day over the Av's. I'm not saying that just because I'm an Oiler fan cause I voted for Chicago over the Oil. That aside I think the Av's logo is ugly. I've hated that thing since they moved from Quebec.

No, no one likes the Oilers logo, thats why they've had to experiment with so many alternates in the past few seasons.

...Where do you get that. The Oilers logo hasn't changed since inception and they have had only 1 alternate, designed by Todd McFarlane, 10 years ago.
Vipermuscle83...these polls are no good because you are the almighty and everyone should agree with you right...cause you know everything.
Also, the Oilers logo is great because it doesn't need color to look good. I am an Oilers fan with numerous articles of clothing with the logo on and in every color. It looks good no matter what. What would the Avalanche logo look like without all the color and full representation. In my hat it is iron pressed into the brim (so no color) and it looks just as good as the full color one. Vote goes to Edmonton.
And if this was a battle of third jersey logo's, it would be an Oiler\NYR final with the Oilers coming out on top.
Oh, BTW, if this was a popularity contest..the Maple Leafs would have won because leaf nation has more fans than any other team in the league.
