another NW matchup sees the Avs squeak and slip by the Oilers but just barely.

It would be interesting if this was a vintage or WHA matchup that had the Nordiques vs. Oilers, that would've been interesting.

GO AVS GO!!!

The Oilers logo is OK and has more history; however, the Avs logo looks better.

Sep 6 · 5:19 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterKeg

Once again, two good logos. The Oilers had great history and respect in the league but the Avs is just very creative and nicely done.

Props to both logos but the Avs get my click.

How is Edmonton winning so many rounds?!? Sure they've won Cups, but the logo is hardly nostalgic, like the Canadiens. Why won't these voters give their head a shake... or are they all Oiler fans?

Sep 6 · 6:42 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenteropiatedsherpa

Maybe I think the spilled oil looks better than a swoosh :-/

Sep 6 · 6:49 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterEirhead

The Oilers logo looks terrible and ancient. It looks like its stuck in a bad 70's trip.

They need to start using the alternates as primary ASAP

Sep 6 · 7:29 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAlessandro

You know, I may not like the Avs, or even really like the logo too much, but the Oilers logo is dreadful. Hawks vs. Avs would've been a better matchup.

Sep 6 · 9:18 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterBrandon

Avalanche get my vote with a better color combination, creativity, and style... and I'm an old-time Oilers fan. heh.

Sep 6 · 9:47 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterArtymous

Oilers all the way, just a great logo all around, im a fan of circle logos.

Sep 6 · 11:32 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterShaun

im not even an oiler fan and i like the look of their logo, the fact some people on here are saying the only reason they're winning is because a bunch of homers are voting for the logo is rediculouse, how do you know oiler had more fans voting for their logo than chicago, or aves... you know maybe people actually like the logo because it is timeless simple and unique.

Sep 6 · 11:45 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterGavin

I don't think the Oilers are winning rounds because a bunch of homers are voting for them. They're winning because, for some reason, no matter how much better one logo is than the other, the older logo always gets the most votes.

I'm for the Avs. Better all aroung.

The Avs logo is gay, the color purple does not belong in Hockey.

Sep 6 · 12:24 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterChris

Purple?...Go get your eyes checked, buddy.

Sep 6 · 12:34 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterShaun

Firstly, that's not purple.

Secondly, how does purple not belong in hockey? Because it's a "gay" color? I'm sorry, but my high school colors were purple and white, and we used kings jerseys for our ice hockey team. Yes, I know opinions are opinions, but I will defend the color purple because of my high school colors

With that said, I voted for the Avalanche because I feel it is a more creative logo. And even if they were still the Nordiques, I would have voted for that one as well :-P

Sep 6 · 2:37 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterShane

On a side note, I called the Avalanche store in the Pepsi Center and asked about the new jerseys. They said they will look the same as the old ones, pretty much what's been said before. I vote for the Avs, the oil is just ugly. It looks like it belongs in one of those "Make your own team" editors in video games.

This is a tough one. I've always been a fan of the Avs logo. The "avalanche" going on around the "A" looks great. The Oils logo is also a hot one..the way they've written "Oilers", the oil drop and the colours are great..I voted for the Avs one, cuz like I said, I've always been a fan. Whichever, though, is fine with me.

These polls have been rediculed to the point of complete shame. Logos such as the Oilers, Senators, and Avalanche advance while the Blackhawks, Rangers, and Penguins are out??? This is nothing more than a popularity contest. If these polls were true to their nature and people voted without biased reasoning, the Blackhawks should have been the clear cut winner of this contest. I'm a Shark fan and can understand why our logo is not one that is as coveted in the league as some of the mentioned that have been eliminated but c'mon people. A circle with a drop of oil and lettering beats out the greatest logo in sports? A comic book figure beats out the classic Ranger shield? The Montreal logo is tough to go up against but the Penguins could have slipped past them if popularity were no issue. I'm disappointed in these polls and no matter what, in this case the Avalanche logo is worlds better than the infamous oil drop that regretably cheated the Blackhawk logo out of the tournament much too soon. I'm for the Avs on this one. It's simple, yet it clearly projects the teams avalanche theme to the mountain shaped A. No contest as far as creativeness and effectiveness.

OR...the other option is that more people like the Oilers logo. Plain and simple. If a team wins the cup is it because they are the superior team or is it because the other teams were just poor? In the same vein, if that team wins the cup on home ice, can the screaming legions of supportive fans be given some credit for the win? Everyone is complaining about Oilers' fans voting for their team logo - of COURSE they are - is that not what a fan is all about? A true fan loves everything about their team - and let's be real here people, Oilers fans have to be true after 16 years of not making it to the playoffs, one heart-wrenching loss in Carolina, and a dismal post-cup run season. If, after ALL that, Oil fans are still logging into this poll daily, or multiple times daily, and sending the link to other Oiler fans - why WOULDN'T they deserve the glory of the win? You all keep talking about bias, well sure - we aren't offended by it - we take pride in it. That logo means so much to Edmonton - it instills a sense of pride, ownership and a connection that ties together an entire city. And that drop of oil - love it or hate it - it's a symbol of the other drops shed in our constant quest to relive our glory years - a drop of blood, a drop of sweat, a tear...A logo is a symbol of something so much more - something that reaches beyond graphics and colours and lettering. And if the Oilers logo pulls that out of people - it should do nothing less than win.

No, no one likes the Oilers logo, thats why they've had to experiment with so many alternates in the past few seasons.

Sep 7 · 4:59 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterCocky

Woe is the Oilers, for they hadn't made the playoffs in 15 years before they went to the finals vs Carolina...Oh WAIT! Yeah they did! Many times!

For being an Oiler fan, you sure are shaky on their history.

Viper's right about one thing: it's a popularity contest, but you knew it would be when it first came up. It's just something to amuse while we wait for the season to start, not like the winning team (one of the Canadian teams, they'll have the most fans methinks) will make anyone like or dislike them any more because they won a head-to-head popularity contest.

This is why season award voting isn't done like the all star voting.

Sep 7 · 6:42 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterShaun

As vipermuscle83 mentions (while trying to diss the Oiler logo) the oil drop is 'infamous'.

Hence its popularity and resilience.

While I think the Avs logo is quite smart logo-wise (way better than the Black Hawks logo), the Oil Drop still beats it. The only ones the Oilers might not beat would be the Canadiens, Red Wings, or maybe the Maple Leafs.

And how the Black Hawk logo is the best in sports is beyond me! Too many colors, too many lines, no symmetry, too comical and not agressive enough for a hockey logo.

Sep 7 · 7:25 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterstrapping jocks

The Avs logo looks like cheezy clip art, Oilers logo is a timeless classic

Sep 7 · 8:19 AM PDT | Unregistered Commentersnichols

Please explain how the Oilers logo is "agressive enough" for hockey, whereas the Hawks logo isnt?

Comical is the fact that a circle with the team name in it is actually considered a logo....my 3 yr old could do better than that.

Sep 7 · 8:21 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterChard

People complain too much.

It is clear already, the final 4 will all be Canadian, then you Americans can go vote on your favorite Baseball or Football logo.

Canadiens vs Senators
Oilers vs Canucks

Canadiens vs Canucks

Canadiens will win, then everyone will be happy eh, A Canadian Original Siz Logo wins.

Most of these people (especially the person above who said the Penguins should have beat the Canadiens then said the Rangers should beat the Senators because they are an original six team)

Get over it!

Sep 7 · 8:44 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJusten

Chard:
Aggressive in terms of if you want your logo to be the head of an American Indian, he shouldn't be the smiling, rainbow colored feather wearing, cartoonish Hawks logo.

Take a look at the North Dakota Fighting Sioux logo for an example - much better drawn, meaner, more AGGRESSIVE, consistent use of colors, etc. I'd rather wear that logo than the Hawks.

If your 3 year old can come up with something similar to the Oilers logo, you should get him/her working for Columbus or some of the other teams with horrible logos out there.

And the Oilers logo is not just a circle with the team name, the letters are stylized (not like the simple font on the new Vancouver or TB logos) to resemble dripping oil, and symmetrical to the oil drop at the top of the logo.
