Isles To Go With 3rd Full Time?

Chris Botta at NYI Point Blank seems to think so.

Botta says the New York Islanders are looking into making their new third jersey their first jersey in a year or two. The all-too-recent switch to the Rbk EDGE Uniform System which brought along with it a completely new look for the Isles may preclude them from doing it that soon, but the team is certainly exploring the option for the future.

I mean how could you not want to wear that all the time? It's a nice looking uniform. It'd be a shame to only wear it 15 times a year. Why not 41?

Thanks to Sean from Going Five Hole for letting me know about the article.

We knew that there would have to be one team to be the first to use an alternate as their primary in the Rbk Edge era. I would be quite pleased if the Isles would be that team. I love this Bossy-inspired look for this team, especially since I think their current look is too busy, and the white shouler trim is unnecessary with the wide blue and orange on the sleeves.

I think this great!! Hopefully other teams follow suit and switch to throwbacks.

My bad. That was well before my time, and I knew they were close. Probably should've done research.

Come on! I hate these things, the Islanders need a new look, and that includes a new logo, i actually liked the fisherman logo, i wish they'd use that

You people dissing on this look.... do you honestly like the new patchy busy look? I thought EVERYONE hated it?

Oct 30 · 6:59 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenteramericn

Uhm, no, I love their new jerseys. As "busy" as some people call them, they look beautiful to me. I don't see how they're busy at all.

Anyways, I don't agree with this, mainly because it seems so unorganized to introduce new jerseys, follow it up with a new third, and then as soon as possible, ditch those brand new jerseys for that brand new third. How that would mess up their jersey history even more (Do I even need to mention the other?). Their current ones are fine, and I think the current three work marvelously together.

That would be great if the Islanders made their third uniform their full time look. This is a franchise that has been around for 36 years and has been one of professional sports' most successful teams up until the day when then-owner, John O'Pickett, decided to sell the franchise. It is time that teams remember their roots by going back to their classic looks. The Islanders are no exception. This is a true hockey uniform that stands out and has an Original 6 "feel". Now, if only current owner, Charles Wang, consulted Bill Torrey on hiring a strong hockey mind to run the team and bring it back to respectability and allow him to do his job.

I think a bunch of teams will switch to their newly unveiled third jerseys within a couple of years. A lot of the them are better than the current jerseys.

Teams I've like to see make the full time switch: Islanders, Canucks, Leafs, Flyers, Oilers, and Sabres.
