IHA Northeast Finalists Unveiled!
37 CommentsLast week you saw the logo finalists for the IHA Atlantic. This week, I've narrowed down three finalists for each team in the West Division for the logos I received. You'll begin voting on them tomorrow but for right now, have a look. I think we've got a good batch for this division.
BOSTON ROYALS
HARTFORD BEARS
MONTRÉAL ROUGE
OTTAWA CAPITALS
QUEBEC GLACIER
I'm leaving off credits here as usual. However, if your logo is featured here and you would like a credit, drop me a line via email and I'll be happy to add it. Otherwise, I plan to wait and credit the logos that win for each team.
Polls will be posted throughout the week to decide which logo should be used for each team. Along with each poll, I'll show some of the logos that were submitted but didn't make the final cut for one reason or another. So if you sent in a logo that wasn't selected as a finalist, it should be there. If it's not, the image you sent was probably unusable in some way.
By the way, I've tried to weed out any logos with elements stolen from actual professional sports team logos, but if I've missed anything be sure to let me know. I've got backups to put in for most teams as far as the polls go. Speaking of backups, there's one more logo I have to post because of it's homage to the Whalers.
I'm not sure it would be a good idea for this competition for obvious reasons, but how cool would it be for this alternate universe league to share a logo trait with the NHL's best like that? It would be like a destiny thing for the city of Hartford.
Seriously though, the Whalers had one of the best logos ever (even you guys agree as evidenced by your voting in the Vintage Logo Tournament). Anyway, I just wanted you guys to see it, but it probably won't be up for a vote in the poll this week.

Solid stuff in this division! I especially like many of the entries for the Canadian teams.
Other than the Bears, pretty solid entries. Speaking of bears, I really like the Glaciers' logo that doubles as a bear.

Third Quebec Logo is pure money ! If it doesn't win I'll eat a dirty mexican baby's diaper !

So ive been designing logos on paint.net. Then i got a program called vextractor, which converts the original image to vector. So i did this, and it makes the image worse. Way Worse! Does anyone know y this is happening?

If you can use the old Atlanta Flames logo for the Atlanta Fire, I don't know why you can't use that sideways Hartford Whalers logo for the Hartford bears, even just as a secondary.

Hey Tony. I liked your Rouge logo. It was fourth on my list. And your Bears logo looked more like a pig to me but we'll let the voters be the judge of that starting on Tuesday. Both will be included with the polls as non-finalists.
All these look great, maybe except the Bears' logos. But who I am to complain, I can't do any of that. Montreal logos look the best, to me. Surprised that there's no Toronto team, after all Toronto is the CENTRE OF THE HOCKEY UNIVERSE! Let the complaints begin...
Nice designs here. I think this is the best batch so far.. but I think I said that after the last division also.
One comment though: the second Boston Royals logo. I'm not entirely positive about this, but that logo looks all too familiar to me. I seem to believe that a soccer club has used a similar logo, the lion pouncing on the shield. Again, I'm not positive about this, but I feel like I've seen it far too many times for it to be "original". My apologies to the creator if I'm mistaken.
As for these logos.. I absolutely love the final Glacier logo. In fact, that one looks more like a bear than any of those Bears logos. Maybe that one was submitted as the wrong team?..
it took me forever on paint to make my Glaciers logo...
Non-finalists, unite!
To Ksy92003, I think you're thinking of the logos of Aston Villa or Rangers, which both feature a 'Lion Rampant'.
Does the third Ottawa logo not look like the same logo from sportslogos.net just with different colours?
Technically, Hartford owns the rights to the name and logo of the Whalers, so if a team was in Hartford you could not only use that logo, you could flat out call the team the Whalers with the same logos and colors. I hope that logo is used as a non-finalist, because it's awesome.
I find it hilarious that Ottawa's colours are blue and white and their logo will feature a maple leaf on it.
Imagine the backlash from Ottawa fans if this league was real.

I used a lion rampant as the base, but everything else was designed from the ground up, I figured the British/Irish influence was just too tasty to pass up.
I suspect the Toronto will be part of the central division, we haven't seen Motown or Chi Town yet...Chris please give us a Winnipeg team!!!!
That First Bears one looks like its useing (the Claw and puck) Modfide version of the Memphis grizzlies Secondary. Within the logo. does that count?
best division so far! really like the first two mtl rouge logos and the polar bear logo for Qc. Great job guys to everyone who made the logos for each team on this divison!
Forgot something, the 2nd logo for Qc is very nice I like the fact that theres the silhouette of the chateau frontenac and the G logo as puck very nice. The first logo looks alot to a political party in Quebec "Parti Quebecois".
that skull (boston) is atrocious.
the face on it is something the Insane Clown Posse would use.
the hair looks slapped on and doesn't seem to fit (i didn't know it was hair at first)
the crown is just out of control.
i really don't see how this logo looks "royal" in any way. I really hope it doesn't win.
remember people "cool looking" is not the only criteria in what a logo should do

My picks:
BOSTON ROYALS
Finalist #1. Excellent way of how the people of Boston portrayed the King of England right before and during the Revolution. All that's missing is for him to be pouring tea with "Tax" stamped on the teacup.
HARTFORD BEARS:
Finalist #1. Second one might be too scary, and the third one looks more like a "bear"acuda (Bad joke, I know). The non-finalist you presented would work as an alternate logo.
MONTREAL ROUGE:
Finalist #1. All of them are good, but this one displays the fleur-de-lis prominently.
OTTAWA CAPITALS:
You guessed it...Finalist #1. I might vote for one of the non-finalists, but this one is the best of the finalists (because it downplays the maple leaf the best)
QUEBEC GLACIER:
Finalist #1 reminds me too much of the Obama campaign logo...Is "change" coming to the IHA? Regardless, I'm voting for McCain, so I'd say either #3 (it rules your world!)

Hey Chris, Ottawa logo #3 closely resembles the Chris Creamers Sports logos.net logo.
This is definitely the best group of logos so far. I really like the second boston royals logo, the first and third montreal rouge logo and the third quebec glacier logo

That logo is actually the logo of the International Hockey League.
Woohoo, great logos finally. Stuff I can see on sweaters and what not. Especially Les Rouges, top notch stuff all around.
Boston... love #1 and #2. Either would work well as a first or second logo actually.
Hartford... to be honest, I wasn't expecting anything great, and that's pretty much what we got. I think the best bear logo in the bunch is #3 of the Quebec series (absolutely awesome)
Montreal... could be a tight race, but I think we'll see #1 come out on top because of the fleur de leis is much more prominent, and the R has that classic feel.
Ottawa... #1 has it hands down. I don't feel that a star in a Canadian logo would ever go over well (especially when it's larger than the maple leaf), and #3 as a big leaf is just too "Toronto Maple Leafs" for me (mixed in with Chris Creamers' logo).
Quebec... as soon as you see #3, you know where the votes are going. Like I said in the Hartford comments, absolutely killer!

No, it's actually from Arena Football 2, whatever that is. Besides, all of those Ottawa logos are bland. Seriously, if one of the non-finalists uses even the smallest bit of red, I'm voting for them.
I'm going with:
Boston 1.
Hartford 3./non-finalists (they all have an unprofessional look)
Montreal 1. I'd vote for number two if it wasn't the exact same "M" from two of the Calgary Mavericks logos.
Ottawa non-finalist/1.
Quebec 3. ALL THE WAY.
Wow, that polar bear in the glacier kind of reminds me of the hidden bear in the Wild logo, except this one is much more obvious.

I expected WAY more with all the hype Chris was giving to these logos. The Rouge logos are boring, the Capitals logos blow chunks, and the Glacier logos are dumb.
The first Glacier logo looks like something on a Quebec tourism pamphlet. The second one would look retarded on a jersey... might be a cool secondary but I doubt it. The third one is decent.... I could see it on an ECHL or maybe even an AHL jersey.... but definately not top-tier quality. If we were told that the league was meant to be a minor/junior level hockey then it would make voting much more fun...... I would never see that skull logo for Boston on a pro team, but it would be awesome in Junior or something....
hope the non-finalists are good... these are all "meh"
MY PICKS
Boston: 1 (Other 2 would be great shoulder patches/ 3rd Jersey Logos)
Hartford: 2 (1st one would look really professional if it didn't have that weird, double-jointed arm coming out)
Montreal: 3 (All of them are surprisingly great! But I like the 3rd the most)
Ottawa: non- finalist (As my hometown team, these colours stink, and the logos stink with them. It reaches a new level of stink that Ottawa has ever seen, other than the Sens without Alfie)
Quebec: 3!!!!! (3!!!!!)
The Boston Royals 1st option with skull/crown is awesome.
