Citizen Runs Leaked Sens Pic

The leaked picture of the Senators' third jersey was printed in this morning's Ottawa Citizen if you can believe that. The Icethetics-watermarked image is next to two other concept designs that are labeled as "possible colours" for the Sens.

I can assure you they aren't. The one I posted the other day is the real deal. Here's what was printed in the paper today, via the Digital Edition.

You can read the story on the newspaper's web site.

And while I'm on the subject, it appears several stores across Canada are already selling unreleased third jerseys. Several readers sent in pictures. Here's one of them. I'll be adding more to the Sens' Third Jersey Central gallery.

So there won't be any surprises on Saturday. Here are the Kings and Sharks third jerseys also found on store racks.

Thanks to everybody who's been sending in pictures. You guys rock!

So having laces on the jersey is what constitutes a jersey being "retro", at least according to Alfredson, because the ones with "SENS" on them are far from retro...ugh.

It's a good day for internet news sites like this and a bad day for "real" news sources when you've been saying for days that that monstrosity IS the Sens third and on the same day you confirm that it indeed is, The Ottawa Citizen doesn't even have a clue...

From the article: "perhaps incorporating the stylized "O" of the original Ottawa Senators franchise." So sad.

Nov 20 · 9:45 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJWD

Should have gone with the O.

Nov 20 · 9:49 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDrew Celestino

Why couldn't they have gone with something like that "O" jersey? That actually looks pretty good, much better then the "SENS".

Nov 20 · 10:05 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterOgre39666

Oh niceeee...aw I want to go to that store!

Nov 20 · 10:12 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterRyan (IcyBlues)

Well the stripes on the sleves are retro styled...

Nov 20 · 10:18 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJorden

And why is it that it is about as hard to find a Sabres Third as it was to find a fricking Cabbage Patch Kid back in the 80's?????????

Nov 20 · 10:28 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDoug

The more pictures of the Sharks jersey I see, the less I actually like the thing. I've always been a fan of their designs, but this is just boring, boring, boring. I do, however, like what the King's have done with their new sweaters. They have a stark, simplistic elegance about them that will look excellent once the players hit the ice.

Did the Ottawa Citizen just do what I think they did and lump Icethetics in with "several websites"? They're running the photo this blog leaked WITH watermarks on it, and they can't deliver proper accreditation? Come on, now.

Nov 20 · 10:34 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJeremy G

I want to know where that store is so i can buy one :D

Nov 20 · 10:37 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndy

well seems like the topic is all about the sens third. i dont like it.
i think putting the teams nickname (like TB doing "bolts" is stupid)
next thing youre going to see is mtl do a "habs" one..

on the other hand, the more i see the kings new third the more i like it.
i think it screams vintage yet still stands out enough...and it brings everyone back to the #99 days...
they should just switch to this one

Nov 20 · 10:54 AM PST | Unregistered Commentergosabres37

I know the Jersey City in West Edmonton Mall is selling them and that their head office says the can sell them so if you have a Jersey City in your city the probably already have them out too.

Nov 20 · 10:54 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterSteve

that "O" jersey is nice.....

Nov 20 · 11:05 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterbmaz

Why is it hip to put the nicknames on the front of the jerseys? I don't like Dallas, but OK. But the Bolts, the Sens, what is up with that? Nobody is original? THe numbers of the front of the jerseys still look awful.

Someone needs to listen to the fans...

The 'O' is definatly the one that should be a 'Go'.

Nov 20 · 11:06 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterLarry Playfair

I still think the Piping is on the back of the sharks one. we need a picture of the back of it.

Nov 20 · 11:13 AM PST | Registered CommenterMikePho3niX

Well, of course those Senators jerseys (the two others aren't real. The one on the bottom right was designed based on Howard Berger's description and the one on the left, well, I'm the one who designed it. Too bad they didn't go for it, cause that with the sock design I sent with the proposal would've made that jersey an instant classic and probably the nicest 3rd jersey released this year. Of course, I could be biased.

It's nice for it to get the exposure though. Too bad a link to the petition wasn't joined (http://www.gopetition.com/online/20872.html). At least, once the 3rd is released, maybe it will get people to call in radio shows to ask why they didn't go with the Heritage jersey.

A new proposition will be sent however in case Ottawa participates in a Winter Classic game.

Thanks for all the updates Chris, great work, I check in over 10 times a day and your coverage is awesome.

The Ottawa Citizen is a joke for publishing random concepts and saying that they are possible jersey designs.

Nov 20 · 11:26 AM PST | Registered CommenterKorbyn

No Love for Chris in the newspaper but they publish your leaked photo?!? That is BS...

Nov 20 · 11:47 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrechtel

i find it comical that using part of a teams name in a new font is concidered a nice way to make a third jersey, or that putting the city name across the top with a number on the front looks nice.

this league is becoming hard to take seriously with the sillyness and at times stupidity of these "third" jerseys. it screams of desperation and desire to market and capitalize on a league that needs help in so many other places.

for starters, get rid of Bettman.

Nov 20 · 12:00 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterRob

That "O" jersey is beautiful. They blew it.

Nov 20 · 12:20 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJacob

It was in the Ottawa Sun too and they mentioned icethetics.

Nov 20 · 12:24 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterLandon

man i didnt like the sens jersey at first and now after seeing that kings jersey and a few days to let it sink in i dont actually mind that sens jersey i know most of you hate it but its better then the thrashers jersey im actually starting to like that jersey

Nov 20 · 12:32 PM PST | Unregistered Commenteralex

Seriously.....
If someone knows a store in the GTA who's selling these please post it on here.
I want to get the new cunucks 3rd.

Nov 20 · 12:42 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJer

I wonder what other photos were taken from that store/those stores in Canada.

Nov 20 · 12:47 PM PST | Registered CommenterBSmalls

Wow nice pictures. It's surprising that stores are already selling them.

Chris. I miss all the concept art this blog used to have. It's never really posted anymore. We never have Freakout Friday anymore either.

We should have a contest where we vote on the best third jersey concepts that should have been used.

Nov 20 · 12:56 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterryanb

Love that Senator O jersey. They should have gone with that hands down.

Also, I love how players say their new jerseys are sharp and people will love them. I love to hear one guy say his team's 3rd jersey is ugly. Now that would be refreshing.

Nov 20 · 1:03 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDan

"We should have a contest where we vote on the best third jersey concepts that should have been used."

I was gonna request something like that also. Chris, is that possible? Once they're all released?

Nov 20 · 1:06 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJerk Store

Seeing the beautiful, traditional "O" jersey reminds the reader how much worse the actual third jersey is by contrast.

Nov 20 · 1:52 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

it's already been said, but the "O" jersey would have been a marked improvement from the Super NES-esque windbreaker monstrosity...

Nov 20 · 3:14 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterblurr1974

How about you stop patting yourself on the back and work on the logo tourney ... we've seen all the third jerseys now lets move on ...

Nov 20 · 3:26 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterShawn

that's me holding up the Kings and Sharks jerseys. The Kings one is amazing in person, the Sharks one is alright. I asked the clerks at Jersey City how they had them before the teams had officially unveiled them and there response was, "i dunno, magic i guess." This was also true for the Hurricanes third, same chain of stores carried them long before the fans in Raleigh could even buy them.

This came across weird to me, there is a shop here in Calgary that is known for it's impressive jersey count. They sell every teams home, away and thirds. Plus some of the pre edge era replicas and authentics. The shops owner told me that they weren't allowed to order the jerseys until teams had released the rights to seel them after there respective unveilings.

Nov 20 · 3:55 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterscarecrow

I like the Kings and Sharks jerseys. Not so much the senators one though... hopefully it looks better in action.

Nov 20 · 4:17 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterOg

nothing's worse than "SNES"!!!

Nov 20 · 4:25 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrianguy

I definitely think the Ottawa O would have been awesome. even though I'm a Kings fan but I even went so far as to sign the online petition for the "O" jersey.

and the Kings is good, even though I was originally against it...

Nov 20 · 4:28 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrianguy

Looks like the stores selling the unreleased third have confirmed your leaks Chris, so that makes you 18 for 18, for accuracy! Pretty amazing sources you have there.....
That "O" jersey is awesome. I hope the petition that Senators fans are going to pass around gets that jersey into their identity someday...

Nov 20 · 4:36 PM PST | Registered CommenterWingerdinger

I don't like the O at all. I like vintage, especially with the thirds, but when you're talking 1920s vintage, it's not good. Logos and jerseys have developed and this third would be WAY down in the rankings. I think that the leaked one is better and it is the one because of it being sold in stores

Nov 20 · 6:29 PM PST | Registered Commenterrangersrock28

Not a Sens fan (go Leafs!), but that jersey s*cks. The O looks great, they should've gone with that.
