Housekeeping!

I've got some Icethetics-related news for this morning. First, Third Jersey Central is complete, as far as the NHL is concerned. As time goes on, I'll be adding relevant pages for the AHL and ECHL as well as a bonus jerseys area of 3JC where we can keep track of other special sweaters, like those for the Winter Classic and such.

However, before that I need to get the Flashback '98 logo tournament back up and running. It's another one of those things where I'm just trying to figure out the best way to build the page. Hopefully I'll have that done before the end of the week.

I'm doing something new with the RSS feeds. Those of you who have subscribed already know. I've never liked include the full post in the syndication feeds because if you really want to know what it's about, you should drop by the site and see it. So now I'm include a one or two line teaser in the feed. This is better than having only the post title.

You can also see comments via RSS. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but on all new posts, comments close after two weeks. So if you've got something to say, you have 14 days to do it. I'm setting it up this way because usually after a week, once the post disappears from the main page, nobody comments on it anymore anyway.

In addition, here's some other stuff I'm working. We'll have a concept art section with Featured Artists. You'll be able to enjoy the complete works of guys like Matt (aka GhettoFarmBoy), Sigma Kappa, Emilis Acus, Mike Ivall, and many others.

A lot of folks have emailed me about having an Icethetics artist design a logo for their local team. I'm building a section that will be sort of a bulletin board for people in need of logos. I'll post their information and anyone interested in helping them out can send in their work. More info on that later.

I'm also going to start putting together a comprehensive section on goalie masks which should be interesting. I'm hoping to make it the biggest goalie mask database on the web. All in time, though. I'm also going to dig into the archives and put together pages on each of our past logo tournaments — who won and how they did it.

All that and more. And if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, feel free to email me any time.

If you google "icethetics" the old blog still shows up first, followed by a post from inside the old blog, a Technorati result for the word "icethetics" and Zeltiq Aesthetics, who own the icethetics.com domain name. Icethetics.info shows up fifth. Maybe it would be better to attract people the site if it showed up first?

Chris,

I think it's safe to say that you've been hard at work on this project and I'd like to commend you on the site and the future. As a webmaster myself, I think one of the greatest achievements in having a site is the visitors that make it a point to check in daily. Icethetics has become one of my go-to's, out of 4, and you never disappoint. Kudos. I see you used some of my ideas from the questionnaire, cj. Good job. Good luck on the future of the site and I look forward to more info.

Marty,

Doesn't sound like you know much about Search Engine Optimization It will take time, but icethetics.info will be number 1 eventually. A lot of it has to do with other sites linking to this URl as opposed to the old one, among many other things.

Nice work on the site, it's coming along quickly, and to alread be #4 on google searches is nice. as mentioned it takes time, but most people know that. Can't just wish it to be #1 and have it happen, otherwise i'm rather certain it would have happened by now. hahaha

with that said... at the top there's the menu "blog, 3rd central, icehl, archive...." ever thought of having a "teams" drop down and then having each team as a sub-menu? or maybe having a banner of the team logo's kind of like nhl.com? just a thought, might be a good way for people to find anything related to their favorite team(s).

all in all nice work, keep it up, just hoping the site doesn't change URL again :)

Just to add onto none's idea about having a teams drop down, it would be cool If they had all the teams their with their jersey history with pictures and concepts of them.

Hey Chris. You have done an AMAZING job with Icethetics, and I love the effort that you've put into it! The layout is sleek, making it efficient for me to skim through each page. The content is excellent with a very comprehensive 'Third Jersey Central'. Again fabulous job, and I can't wait to see any further features that may be added. I will continue to read Icethetics on a daily basis! Cheers.

I love this site and have been visiting it on a daily basis since I found it on a link from UniWatch. I love the idea of the goalie mask archive as I think goalie masks are a greatly under aprechiated art medium. I myself am a goalie and really thought hard about what I wanted on my mask in both high school and college. I wanted something crisp and clean that represented my team and I feel I accomplished that both times. I can't wait to see the archive once it's built.

I'd much prefer the entire post be in the RSS feed, otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose of subscribing. Does the "you should drop by the site" program have anything to do with ad views?

hey neil, just don't click on the ads. Viewing isn't a profitable thing as much as people clicking them. also explains why add-ons to firefox like ad-block are so popular. It's not always about ads as much as it is general traffic and thus recognition that the site generates traffic. That after all was the initial intention of RSS feeds, to generate traffic as opposed to giving all the information in an RSS and keeping people away from the site....

the idea of connecting designers and people in need of a logo is AMAZING !

I absolutely love this bulletin board idea of yours Chris, for people who need a logo for a local team. My Salmon Kings are in desperate need of one that is actually respectable (other than their third jersey logo).
