Paint The Rink Pink
The OHL's Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (say that three times fast) are making their contribution to the Freak Out Friday (on Friday the 13th, no less) by playing a game on pink ice. The team's making donations to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation so I guess it's all right. I'll keep an eye out for game photos.
Yeah, that's right, it gets worse. This is at least the second time they've done this!
The ECHL's Ontario Reign didn't go as far as to paint the ice, but they did don pink jerseys against the Alaska Aces last Saturday. Unfortunately, this is the best picture I could find.
I don't really have much else for you today beyond that. Those of you who wrote in about joining Icethetics as a staff writer, I plan on getting back to you soon. I appreciate your patience.
Got a follow up to this post this afternoon. We've got even more pink. First, thanks to Cwrazydog, we've got better shots of the Reign in action.
That's a great shot of the jersey itself. You can see they opted for a pink version of the secondary logo on the front. For a look at the full uniform, see below.
That's really something isn't it? I count at least five pink ribbons on that bad boy.
I also mentioned the St. Michael's Majors will be donning pink on pink ice this weekend. Our friend Vilnis sent in a picture of what it looked like last year and promises another one from this weekend.
Even the refs are getting in on the act.
In addition, the OHL's Bellville Bulls are doing the pink thing for Valentine's Day. Here you can see a player modeling one of the very, very pink sweaters.
For those of you across the Atlantic, the British Elite League is joining the fray. Check out the web sites of the Belfast Giants, Coventry Blaze, Edinburgh Capitals, and Hull Stingrays. Thanks to Andrew for this info. He also points out the the English Premier League's Romford Raiders will also be wearing something special (you have to click that link).
I'm sure there will be more to come but any additional news will get its own post. And speaking of new posts, tomorrow is Friday the 13th so how could I not try to scare you a little bit? Stay tuned for a Freak Out Friday of some sort.

i actually don't mind the pink...it's for a good cause and it actually doesn't look horrible
I agree, atleast they didnt go full pink. Its actually well done, maybe not for a full time jersey but for the one game its alright. Though I want to see the pink ice for the Majors game.
What are those the designs on the goalie's sleeves?
Its definitely a good one time thing to do, or at least once a season...
Here's a better view of the jersey:
I'm not big on pink, but they definitely made it work for them. I must say, the washed out designs on the sleeves and sides of the jersey are very unique.
That pink Reign jersey is actually better than their current orange ones, in my opinion. The pink ice sounds crazy, but I would pay good money to go to that game!
The Bellville Bulls of the OHL will be joining the Majors in the cause.
They call it "Pink in the rink" and will be wearing pink jersies as well.

I'm not a big fan of pink in general, but for a one-time thing, I think it looks quite good in moderated amounts, like the Reign. I actually think that without the shin-ribbons it'd be a decent jersey for alternate/3rd use occasionally.
The solid pink from the Bulls doesn't cut it for me though. I realize it's for a good cause and all that, but almost completely pink is a little too much for me.
Ice...
Should never be that color
Ever again.
It looks like the world's largest bottle of Pepto Bismol spilled out onto the surface and froze there.
Agreed Link. I understand it's for a cause..... but first McDonalds outfits, then Pretty in Pink.
What's next for hockey..... daisy prints all over the uni's??
And maybe they could include 'scratch n' sniff' flower logos!
Is there not a way to honor breast cancer with all we have, without looking like 'pansies on ice'? When is the NFL going to sport pink uni's and helmets?
why did the romford raiders take the old tampa buccanears logo... everybody knows that its the worst logo ever in the nfl
wearing pink is different entirely if its for a good cause. i personally don't think they look like "pansies on ice". they're doing it for a good cause and i see nothing wrong with that.
As long as there are trying to check one another through the glass its hard to call them pansies. And Ron, those scratch and sniff patterns have already been put to use on all the new Edge uniforms. If you scratch the Reebok logo it smells like money.
Andrew.... like I said, we all know it's for a good cause, but do we have to look so 'feminine' while we do it??
Link.... checking an opponent through glass is one thing.... but donning a bright pink jersey while doing it seems a bit much, that's all.
Your comment on the scratch n' sniff rbk logo..... priceless!
Pink isn't that bad, when you could have this on the front of your jersey....
speaking of pansies... the rink I play in used to have flowers on the glass around the visitor's penalty box but once they joined the ECHL it was kinda bush league so they took it off. definitely a good thing they took it off tho
here is the url to the video, the goalie padding looks goofy. to bad they didnt wear pink gloves and helmets

I sent Chris this story, but in case he doesn't post it, here it is:
Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) to wear Broad Street Bullies jerseys

Adam, you say the goalie pads looking goofy? In action it looked like the laundry guys accidentally mixed a few red socks in with the laundry and the team had to either skate naked or in the pink washed home jerseys.
