Wild 3rd Jersey Leaked!
We're getting our first look this morning at the Minnesota Wild's brand new third jersey — just five days before the official unveiling. The new sweaters are scheduled to make their public debut on Sunday at the Minnesota State Fair. Icethetics has a sneak peek right now.
I believe this is Brent Burns modeling the new sweater here to the right (correct me if I'm wrong). The photo is part of the background image on the Wild's forthcoming redesigned web site. Since the jersey won't be unveiled until Sunday, the new site will have to wait at least until then.
Meantime, this is what we've been hearing about from the Wild and it's hard not to be impressed. As I said, Minnesota was the team I felt had the farthest to fall in terms of third jerseys for 2009. They have such a great (albeit short) history that it would've been very easy to ruin this one.
The minute amount of red works in its favor. We wanted a green sweater and we got a green sweater. The striping is dead-on, reminiscent of the 2004 All-Star jersey. And the only thing I might change is probably the thin piping around the shoulders.
Aside from that, I don't think there's anything else to improve. It's what most of us were hoping for. Easy on the red, heavy on the green.
By the way, so you have an idea where this came from, here is the full background image that will be featured on the new site — probably next week.
Got an opinion on the Wild's new third? Share it in the comments. And check back on Sunday for more photos from the official unveiling.
While not mentioned by name, Icethetics was featured on Minneapolis TV tonight for the Wild third jersey leak.
Thanks to KSTP for the shoutout!

That is the worst jersey I have ever seen. Looks like a small school college jersey. Brutal!
Love it and it sure looks like alot of teams are finally going old school with their updated Edge jerseys, i.e. Islanders, Oilers, Sabres, Wild 3rd, Blues 3rd, Flyers 3rd, etc. Here's hoping that the Reebok vertical piping experiment is starting to fade away forever!
Don't like them at all. Ugly as sin.
It's simple, old school, and completely awesome. Good job!
They look like the Bemedji State road jerseys. Go back to the drawing board. Please!
I'd only make minor changes - put a thin red stripe just below the thin green one in the waist and arm stripes, then remove the shoulder piping. As for the pants, put the crest on the right leg front at the cuff. I gotta give kudos to moving up the waist stripes to de-emphasize the silly reebok curved hem. Considering the monstrocity of a third my Thrashers are sporting these days, this is outstanding.
Why does the league insist on these high collars to show the NHL logo. They are not comfortable... It cuts up high and makes the ties look silly. Plus they get hotter than hell. I cut them away.
A definite improvement over the X-mas themed jersey, the Wild have improved, still not as good as the North Star jersey's
I personally love the third jersey. Anyone who either doesn't live in Minnesota or know about our deep hockey tradition in the State of Hockey likely won't appreciate it. People that are in the State of Hockey and are fans of hockey of all levels in MN should know how accurate this jersey is to our history. Kudos to whomever designed it!
WTF! Why take away from the original logo? The scripting is ridiculous....
This is about as good as can be expected with that stupid RBK template. The green and white monochromatic look is awesome! The wild look so much better without all that red and gold striping! The best uniforms have a maximum of 3 colours with the base and striping. Logos can use more. Think Chicago Blackhawks. Their uniform is only 3 colours and the logo has about ten. Or another fave of mine: the Nordiques with their powder blue and white unis with red logos and numbering. Its the best of both worlds.
It looks like it was designed in 5 minutes. no good
Weak - so boring. Could have done something cool but went the boring 1960's high school route- oh well, can always put #4 Farve on it!!
gabby was behind this being leaked
Yuk yuk, what in the hell where they drinking? Jagermeister.
Good god, it is the worst thing in Minnesota sports since the wonderful looking pasty blue Twins jersey in the early 80’s.
just thru-up.
Chris: Didn't I say that they'd be like the All-Star jerseys during Live Chat? Chalk another one up for Glen... (oh, yeah, and you also completely shot me down)
You've got to be kidding me. This third deserves a different green - the Mr Yuck sticker. Didn't like the red third (and don't like it anymore as the new home), don't like this one. The Wild will not be selling any new jerseys in my family with this lousy effort.
I like this jersey. Even though the Wild are just under 10 years old, they really create a sense of tradition and class with their jerseys. I would have preferred a touch more red, maybe an outline around the numbers, or something. Overall 4.5 out of 5. Am I the only person who really likes their current home jersey?
Well, it's not great, but it's not bad. The red behind the patch reminds you it's a wild jersey, but it also looks out of place. It looks extremely similar to the 2004 All Star Jersey (which is king of okay since it was in Minnesota) but without the stars and the second smaller stripe on the arms. Not good, but at least it wont look like a minor league Christmas gimmick jersey like their home does a bit. Also, the striping on the shoulders really feels out of place on the old-school inspired jersey.
Once again, the timeless vintage look rules the day. Great job by the Wild to come up with a jersey that would look retro despite not spending as much time in the league as the Original 6 (Only their 10th Season)
I'm no wordmark fan. but THAT is a good jersey. Of course, after the "Minnesota Fighting Christmas Trees" jerseys, anything is an improvement, maybe I'm blinded by that. Now they just need NHL permission to wear it 41 times (if you get my crift).
I'm in the jersey business and I see all these vintage-style third jerseys selling like hotcakes. The reason the league as a whole is taking their style in this direction is because it makes a lot of money. Jerseys with too much stuff going on, that are too modern-looking, don't sell to the fans for some reason.
These are the same as the 2004 All Star Game held in Saint Paul.
Personally I dig the new jerseys, they bring back great memories of that All Star Game.
Mmmmm er it's kinda boring.
Three stars (out of five.) Color & striping(banding?) is alright, but the script looks too small. I like the shooting-star dot for the "i", and I HATED the North Stars( Fighting Saints, all the way!)
Very interesting! The jersey is awesome looking and is very similar to Bemidji State University's jersey who happened to be the only Minnesota team to make it to the Frozen Four this past season. Go Beavers!
I am a huge baseball and hockey fan but have to agree there is no room for baseball in hockey and that is exactly what we have here. I do like what appears to be a nod to the former North Stars but lets be realistic...they are gone and the logo looks baseballish.
Creativity was the last thing in mind when putting this together the only saving grace for me is I am a big fan of green!
Jeeze I think it is the same exact jersey as the Ducks script jersey.
2/5. I like logos on jerseys not words.
What were you thinking? I really hope you did not pay somebody alot of money to come up with that!!!!! You really should have asked the fans what we would like for a third jersey since we are suppose to be the team of 18,000 right? I really hope next time you put a little more thought into it!!!! VERY UGLY AND BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually I think it to be quite ugly. The attention to detail is there but the overall dark green is too much. It needs a tertiary color (or secondary color, if white is considered to be not a color) to provide more balance.
YAY.. and awh.. im happy yet very disappointed in some way :S but its tight
"Really, Eric R? Just what pro teams outside of the Anaheim Ducks 2005 Third Jersey has this lame script been used???? Thats what I thought... its a baseball wordmark, plain and simple."
You obviously didn't become a fan of the NHL until 2005. If you look at NHL jerseys from the past (as in more than 15 years ago) you will see that scripting has been a part of uniforms since the leagues inception!
I'm a season ticket holder and don't necessarily agree with the slant of the scripting, but this jersey stays true to hockey and more importantly MN hockey!
Well done.
Nice....better than all the other third jerseys in the league....look at the Thrashers 3rd yuck.....and I like the Thrashers standard jerseys....The MN wild have a great set of jerseys all around. My favorite is still the red.
I will add this....the only reason for a 3rd jersey is to market them to the fans.....the whole concept of a third jersey should really be done away with.
Pretty bland overall, but does have kind of a classic look. If they paid a designer to put this together they wasted their money. They will end up raking in tons of cash selling these for $100 a pop at games when it's just a recycled all star jersey with a baseball crest. Could also pass for a high school jersey.
Im not that impressed... its pretty boring!
This should be their primary jersey. Get rid of those Christmas Tree red jersey's.
The more I look at it, the more it reminds me of the Ducks third from years ago. I think it is a little too reminiscent for me to like it, now.
the gloves don't match =/
"This should be their primary jersey. Get rid of those Christmas Tree red jersey's."
caf... since when are Christmas trees red?
I'm not that impressed i mean its a sharp looking jersey but its nothing new, its just two recycled ideas thrown into one new jersey. You got the 04 allstar game and the mighty ducks purple alterante wordmark and thats this jersey. I think the concepts posted here were better than this final design
i like it. reminiscent of the old Ducks third, but this seems to be a better fit. i agree that the red accents are a nice touch (especially on the collar), and nice that it wasn't completely chucked out the door. this way the gloves don't look totally out of place. i do think that the larger stripes could stand to be a tad smaller though.
the logo almost looks like a baseball logo
Classy, Awesome.
Don't like them at all! Way too much green, ick. Won't be buying those.
I WANT BLACK !!
Being a huge Wild fan and having about 10 jerseys in my closet, I have to say that I absolutely love the new jersey. I like that it does not have the Wild logo on the front or the big circle with the logo, oh and it's NOT RED, THANK YOU!!!! I am looking forward to buying one of these as well to add to my collection.
The new Wild jersey is about what we all expected, but they could have done much better. Why almost copy the 2004 All-Star jersey? Why does RBK have to make a curved/dress shirt hem that doesn't go with horizontal stripes?? Time to go back to a straight hem for the NHL. I understand the Minnesota script on the front representing high school hockey and copying the Gopher third jersey, but it's the NHL and there should be a logo, not baseball script. I do like the fact that it's a green jersey with very little red. The colors look PMS 3435 (Forest Green) with 468 (Minnesota Wheat)--I don't think it's white trim. Also, in this day and age of laser cut tackle twill and vectors, there is no need for block numbers--stick with the Wild style numbers. Anywho, good jersey, not great. We'll see how it looks in a game.
Very nice! Good job, Wild. Now please suck this year.
Sucks IMO, way to plain
Am I the only person who thinks the design is vaguely similar to the Anaheim DUcks' black third from a few years ago?
