Wild 3rd Jersey Leaked!

We're getting our first look this morning at the Minnesota Wild's brand new third jersey — just five days before the official unveiling. The new sweaters are scheduled to make their public debut on Sunday at the Minnesota State Fair. Icethetics has a sneak peek right now.

Minnesota Wild new third jerseyI believe this is Brent Burns modeling the new sweater here to the right (correct me if I'm wrong). The photo is part of the background image on the Wild's forthcoming redesigned web site. Since the jersey won't be unveiled until Sunday, the new site will have to wait at least until then.

Meantime, this is what we've been hearing about from the Wild and it's hard not to be impressed. As I said, Minnesota was the team I felt had the farthest to fall in terms of third jerseys for 2009. They have such a great (albeit short) history that it would've been very easy to ruin this one.

The minute amount of red works in its favor. We wanted a green sweater and we got a green sweater. The striping is dead-on, reminiscent of the 2004 All-Star jersey. And the only thing I might change is probably the thin piping around the shoulders.

Aside from that, I don't think there's anything else to improve. It's what most of us were hoping for. Easy on the red, heavy on the green.

By the way, so you have an idea where this came from, here is the full background image that will be featured on the new site — probably next week.

It's got a college look to it. Very similar to the Michigan State jerseys. UM's done this look too.

One describes this... NICE!

Predominantly a two color jersey... I'm happy!

I think a lot of folks are missing the depth on this jersey. As a diehard fan of MN hockey on all levels, let me tell you why this jersey will go over well in Minnesota (the target market). It can be done by addressing others concerns.
1: "Scripts look like college/High School jerseys"
- Yes, yes they do. Minnesota has more college hockey teams than any other state (D 1 and 3), and college hockey is HYUGE here in the wintertime. Plus HS hockey is a borderline religion in northern Minnesota. In many ways, the nod to hockey as a whole in MN is impressive.
2: "It looks like the 04 All-Star Jersey"
-Again yes. And that was a great all-star jersey.
3: "The Star looks wierd"
- That is the star from the original logo (the eye of the wild), and also the star along the circular side of the current home logo. Continuity is cool.
4: "I wanted black"
-Why exactly are you here again?
The Wild will sell a TON of these, and that's what they are really looking to do in the end.

Ok people dont get too excited the jerseys are alright. I like the green with no red because red blows, but i would like to see the classic wild symbol on there some where. Also the bottom white stripe makes the jersey look shorter so we need to thin that one out and our all stars can look like gangsters. Question is this our home, away, or alternative jersey. GO WILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks alot like the Gophers jersey a few years back. But I like the change from the Red! check out the link; what do you think? http://image63.webshots.com/763/0/98/81/2790098810100337552yHXTzC_ph.jpg

I still wish they had picked Lumberjacks as a nickname. I mean, "wild?"

Aug 26 · 8:50 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJosh Mercer

the logo/wordmark looks like the Baltimore Orioles wordmark

Aug 26 · 10:44 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterandreas backlund

The could have left WILD in red off the jersey all together, nice uni though.

109 comments? Wow, that must be a record.

This jersey looks great. Clean and classy. I do wonder if these are the gloves they will be using or if they just needed something for the photo shoot.

My only problem is that all three jerseys, home, road, and third, all look totally different. The road whites need to be modified to mimic the home "circle" design.

ITS UGLYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHAT CAN I SAY BUT THAT

Dumb bring back the old green jersey's, they just copied the oldall star jersys.........

Aug 26 · 11:34 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterStorm

Minnesota is a hockey state, and it makes sense that they have done the best job of jersey design in the league. The problem with the original green road jerseys turned home jersey is that the breezers faded excessively and the greens looked weird together. I hope this new one becomes the full-time home jersey.

No good! Its the same as the Ducks Jersey from a few years ago....they changed it becasue it was terrible. Its a weak attempt at a throw-back jersey. To much green. They will look like skating pickles on the ice. I love the Wild, but Im not a fan of this look. sorry.

Aug 26 · 12:05 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterlannyMay

Sick! It would totally make the it original if they went with off-white gloves (same color as the stripes) that would be fuggin sweet!

Aug 26 · 12:58 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterjeff

The game of hockey would win BIG-TIME if Minnesota and the Dallas Stars worked out a deal. If there can be two baseball teams in the American League share the Sox name, ie. the Red Sox and the White Sox, then why not have both, the Dallas LONE Stars and the Minnesota NORTH Stars in the NHL?? Dallas could give Minny the rights to the North Stars trademark and history('67-'93). Imagine the North Stars back in their original kelly green, gold, and white with the classic N-Star crest. Now, THAT was a great uniform until the Gund brothers added the black trimming to the whites in '81-'82 and the greens in '88-'89.

Nice of them to say which website they found it on ... not.

Aug 26 · 4:51 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterSean

Great jerseys IMO. I always liked that classic look. I will pick one up this weekend either at the state fair or at the Xcel Center!

Aug 26 · 5:30 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMMA Gear

Nice jersey! I like the nod to the North Stars with the shooting star.

Aug 26 · 6:44 PM PDT | Unregistered Commentermnduluth

why does everyone like this???

the original logo on the original green jerseys were wayy better than this..

To those outside of Minnesota:

This is not a "baseball style" jersey. It very closely follows the tradition of amateur hockey, namely collegiate hockey. Look at the (University of Minnesota) Gophers' yellow jerseys. Michigan has a similar yellow jersey with a scripted logotype. There are also many high school teams here with a similar style. This style pays tribute to the sport AND the state, which makes it great.

If the jersey seems similar to the 2004 All-Star jerseys, that's because it was in St. Paul. St. Paul, Minnesota.

The star on the new third jersey is not a tribute to the North Stars. It is THE North Star (of Ursa Major fame.) Minnesota is called "The North Star State."

The "dark" forest green is representative of Minnesota's evergreen forests (the Norway pine is our state tree). It might not appeal to everybody, but it means something to us.

These jerseys will make Minnesota proud, and if the rest of the world doesn't like them, all the better. I still like our red jerseys, too. And our "Christmas" colors. And the name, "Wild." And our logo, which none of you seem to be able to comprehend.

Talk about boring and unimaginative. Did they think we would forget what the Western all star jerseys looked like when they were in Minnesota. Try again, I agree its a baseball looking logo. Not bad but when your called the wild you are already behind the 8 ball.

Aug 26 · 9:25 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterjamie o

Looks like this a love-hate jersey, most Wild fans are pleased-I called it. To those wondering about lack of creativity, I'm pretty sure Reebok has something to do with this.

Aug 26 · 10:25 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterEvan

Very nice...very much like a throwback to northern, mn (da range) high school jerseys mixed in with 2004 all star jersey

Aug 27 · 8:11 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterPete

They got the green part right, but that's all. BORING. The logo has no imagination what so ever, 2 major colors and the Wild in red that you can hardly see. This is a remake of the Western All Star jersey from 2004. Someone got paid for this? Whoever approved this needs to be fired. For an organization that does most things first class, this is a MAJOR FLOP. Dissapointed season ticket holder. Kris , Section 114, Row 5.

Awesome jerseys. great choice. not only they will win the cup, but they will win it in fashion.

Aug 27 · 10:32 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterNoah Burns

Just an all-star jersey with a few tweeks, not creative at all. At least with same color breezers you wont see the STUPID tapered hems on the new rebock junk that came out a few years back. The red blackhawks jersey looks like they all have their dress shirttails hanging out, drives me crazy. But rebock did sneak in that thin shoulder piping that they like so much. Will the replica jersey have the big tag in the front saying what size it is? I wont own one.

Aug 27 · 10:14 PM PDT | Unregistered Commentermag

I guess these are better than the green jerseys the Wild started out with...I still don't understand the red on the gloves. The gloves just don't match with the easton gold on them! Boogaard looks irritated haha

Aug 28 · 8:00 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterDan

Just wanted to say that green (that looks 'black') is hunter green.. at first I thought it was plain looking, but this jersey could've been MUCH worse! (ottawa, vancouver, atlanta) The fans wanted the green jersey back, they've got it..

For those of you outside the "State of Hockey" check out our collegiate teams uniforms/ alternate jerseys... they ALL have some sort of script on them.. (Gophers, St. Cloud State, Minnesota-Duluth, Bemidji State)

When this 3rd jersey is available for purchase, don't buy.. the organization won't be upset...

I'm just happy that we have a green jersey back.... Go Wild!

PS: contact Reebok if you want to design jerseys.. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear from (casual) hockey fans..

Aug 28 · 6:33 PM PDT | Unregistered Commentermnkoivuangelgirl99

I love it! But, it is associated with the Wild, what's not to love?!

Aug 28 · 7:10 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterKris

nice looking uni. gloves hopefully will be solid green and/or white.

Aug 28 · 8:42 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterspinetingler

I don't think this looks like a Christmas tree at all! I like the darker green (although I hope it doesn't look black on tv). The lighter/brighter green of the old jerseys was awful.

This jersey looks like old school Minnesota hockey. I know the Wild have only been around 10 years, but Minnesota has a long history with hockey.

I'm glad they just didn't reuse the animal head logo or the round one from the red jerseys. Now I want to see the shoulders and the back!

Aug 29 · 7:54 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterminnesotagirl71

Good stuff, looks classy....im sick of all of them looking like a Live-moving-Christmas decoration during home games...Move away from the red...at all Costs..The home jersey is ATROCIOUS....if this is the first in steps of moving away from RED....im all over it......whatever it looks like....

Aug 29 · 5:30 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWildfan88

I'm so sick of this baseball or basketball look with all the words, they need to do something new.

Aug 30 · 6:22 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenteradmiralCheese

the third jersey is cool im glad they didnt make it like the old home jersey but with the thin stripes like the away one.go wild.....burns rules
