MAINEiacs Go Crazy for Edge
— ICETHETICS EXCLUSIVE —
Please see the updates to this post below.
I've got some jersey news from the junior leagues to share this evening. The QMJHL's Lewiston MAINEiacs are joining the other 59 Canadian Hockey League teams switching over to the Reebok Edge Uniform System for the 2009-10 season and this is your first look at what they'll be wearing.
As is the case with all lower level teams, Lewiston is sticking with the standard, recognizable templates, with the Reebok logo front and center on the chest. The sweaters are similar to the Lightning for the darks, above, and Panthers for the lights, seen below.
Nothing spectacular, but it's jersey news at a point in the summer when there's really not much else going on. Any thoughts on these? Are you excited about seeing leaked jersey pictures back on Icethetics again?
You asked for a comparison with the MAINEiacs' old jerseys. Here they are.
This new look is definitely a downgrade but I think we've been hearing that a lot here in the Age of Reebok. My thanks to RicLaf for allowing me to nab his excellent photos from his Flickr photostream.
At the request of the QMJHL, I have removed the photos of the Lewiston MAINEiacs' new Reebok Edge jerseys. Icethetics is not in the business of making enemies out of the leagues. Sorry about that. With any luck, I hope to at least hear back with an official release date that I can post. The pictures will return to this post after the release.

Totally different templates, but still a nice set of jerseys. I can't wait to see the Vancouver Giants' new jerseys.
Is that really their logo?
I mean REALLY?
Does it not dawn on these people that since the patches overlap the apron strings, that maybe, just maybe, they ought to get rid of them (the apron strings)?
I think the logo is pretty cool though. It's a junior team! I liken it to AAA baseball,. the goofier the logo, the better.
If the league and Reebok patches are there, then where the crap are they going to put the C and As?
As you can see They have put the A and C below those logos in the past, but I see you point because the team logo is so high up the jersey. Should be interesting to see what they do.
Yes i am very excited about more leaked photos!
I am so sick of the reebok apron look. It just doesn't look good on a hockey sweater.
How many horizontal waist stripes is reebok going to kill?
Is there any chance we can get a before and after for those of us that aren't as familiar with the QMJHL?
Done. Just updated the post with some old pictures.
Hey Chris,
I couldn't comment on the IceHL post but I wanted to say the treatment you gave the Logo is amazing. It really looks like a logo off a jersey. What kind of effects did you use? I have been designing a look for a project based on jerseys and I'd love to get some tips.
Thanks,
Kent
I'd love to offer some tips. When I get some free time, I'll write up a tutorial and post it on the site.
Alright... that's all I've really got to say. The stripes on the old uniforms remind of the pre-Rbk, pre-Blueland Atlanta Thrashers dark jersey. Not sure if there was any connection between the two, or any affiliation.
Also, on the white jersey, the arm stripe is pretty much exactly the same as the Kings' arm stripe on their jersey (minus the LONG trim down the side). I know it's not exactly breaking news, but it does give me an idea of what the Kings' jersey would look like with that template... can't say I like what they have now worse than this.
It is interesting that the two jerseys don't follow the same template. I don't know if I necessarily like that or not. In baseball, it's alright because of teams like the Yankees who wear completely pinstripes w/ logo at home and "NEW YORK" on the road, but it doesn't seem right in hockey. Individually, both these jerseys look nice to me. As a set, I don't know.
An aside: how do you have a QMJHL (Quebec being in Canada) team in the United States? And how do you have any QMJHL teams in Canada in OTHER provinces? That doesn't agree with the name of the league at all, so what's the point?
Any Olympiques jerseys?
Kevin, it is easier than changing the name of the league everytime a new province/state is added. I suppose if the majority of the teams moved to a particular state or other province (or even the maritimes) then the name would change accordingly. Also, the NHL isn't really a 'National' league, and the IHL was not 'International'.
also, they should have put RBK in the space where NHL goes on their jerseys, and gotten rid of the vector logo to clean up the jersey. But I suppose I wouldn't know I was looking at a Reebok jersey that way, I might for a second think it was Nike.
I'm glad to see some news about the CHL. I can't wait to see how my Hitmen handle the Edge template. I hope they don't screw it up as badly as the Flames did.
Thank you Chris
I'm disappointed to see you've decided to take your leaked photos down. Much like a journalist with a confidential source you're protected from any threat of any legal action (even with copyrighted material). You're not going to make any enemy of the leagues by keeping the images up but you're sure going to turn away a lot of your readership that is interested in the jersey designs of real teams and not some made-up league.
Thanks for posting the before pics Chris! It's a shame that the league asked you take those down. I find it funny that the QMJHL gave you trouble about it, while the NHL (who actually have fancy jersey unveilings) said nothing when you post their leaks. Oh well.
the qmjhl is a funny league. they are named it because they originated in Quebec and slowly expanded to the Atlantic provinces. There are only a few big market teams in Quebec with a good number being in Atlantic Canada. Namely Halifax, Moncton, Saint John.. Cape Breton draws okay. Quebec City is by far the biggest market in the league but they also have a former NHL facility and a large population.
There are American teams in the Western Hockey League as well as in the Ontario Hockey League. ( 4 teams in the dub are in Washington and 1 in Oregon and the OHL has 1 team in Michigan.)
Just because they are Canadian Hockey League teams doesn't mean they shouldn't try to expand their market and draw more revenues.
So the CHL should change to the NAHL... oh wait that already exists...
The OHL has two American teams; Saginaw and Erie.
What about Plymouth?
The WHL has an entire 5 team division in the states so actually thats 1/4 of that league
I liked the Panthers-inspired dark jersey (saw it before he removed the images)
