Habs 100th Gets Early Exile

Much to the dismay of us jersey geeks, the Montreal Canadiens have abruptly ended their Centennial celebrations — meaning no more 100th anniversary jersey nights.
Scott Gomez #91The news comes by way of Habs Inside/Out and the Montreal Gazette (via a link provided by Dave MC). It was a short, simple post that went up on Saturday morning. It read as follows:
Don't look for the Canadiens to be wearing their replica 1909-10 blue C-crested jerseys tonight or Feb. 13 vs. Philadelphia, as announced at the beginning of the season. The club says its on-ice 100th-anniversary celebrations ended with the Dec. 4 Centennial Game vs. Boston.
Wonder when they made that decision. It's a little strange to see them going back on something like this. My only guess is that the specialty jerseys did not get a favorable response from the fans. Reading through the comments on the Habs Inside/Out post only substantiates that idea.
So while it's awfully disappointing to see the Centennial Jerseys go by the wayside, it sure was fun while it lasted. Maybe they'll do it again for the Bicentennial. (But I'm sure Icethetics won't be around by then.)

You can buy those things for $15 now in Montreal....
I got the 1945 white sweater for Christmas, 124 bucks Canadian. Hoping they bring this back as a third jersey.
About time. Not that I didn't enjoy the retro jerseys, but entire 100 Anniversary celebration dragged on way too long.
funny things is that the 800$ centennial worn jerseys on those nights are still for sale on the official habs website.
the RBK replicas are also half price everywhere...
It looks like Gomez in the picture is wearing a Leafs helmet....had a nightmarish panic attack for a second....
When the Molson family bought the team back from George Gillette I believe they went ahead and said that Dec 4 would be the end of the 100th anniversary celebrations.
I went to the November 21st game against Detroit in Montreal with visions of original 6 play ala 1966 finals in my mind. I was so disappointed that the Habs were wearing those awful blue jerseys with the white C on them.
I hope the replicas actually make it outside Quebec before they disappear. I've been waiting for them all year.
The stripe scheme has worked for the OHL's Ottawa 67s since their inception, but it just never worked for the Habs. I think it's actual colours - black and red work, blue and red don't.
