Ducks 3rd Jersey Leaked

Anaheim Ducks 3rd jerseyThe Anaheim Ducks new alternate jersey has been leaked by the online sports retailer FansEdge.

That can't be good for their Reebok account. However, it is good news for us jersey geeks as Icethetics can now provide a visual sample of what you've read about for weeks.

By the way, Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy was actually first with this story. Check out his take on the new threads.

Despite it coming from a third party, this is official Reebok photography (right). We should all be very familiar with it. So at least for me there is no question whether this is the Ducks' actual jersey.

It makes sense that Reebok has provided images to retailers ahead of the November launch of the new sweater — though retailers were probably asked to keep it under their hats until then. Oops.

But one image wasn't enough. FansEdge kept going. Here's a look at the back of the jersey (left).

Since it's not customized, we can't be sure about the number and lettering style. We could assume it will be the same as the home and road sweaters but you never know.

According to the Ducks, the jersey will make its official on-ice debut on Nov. 26 when they host the Chicago Blackhawks (on Black Friday, of course).

As far as the design, I'm not crazy about the striping up and down the sides. Of course these shots don't provide the best view. We'll have to wait to see it in action next month.

The upshot is the "D" logo on the chest. Been waiting for that since 2006, when the current home and road sweaters were unveiled. Plus, as you can see on the shoulders, the original Mighty Ducks logo returns in the new color scheme, as I mentioned previously.

What do you guys think? What did they get right? What did they get wrong?

The striping is terrible. However, it is nice to see an actual logo on the chest.

I think it's pretty ugly...only Atlanta's third is worse....

Oct 19 · 10:53 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterRichard

I'd reconsider my thoughts if the stupid side striping wasn't there. Likewise the shoulder stripes. The sleeves are harmless. The logo is an improvement. But the rest... yikes.

Oct 19 · 10:55 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMorning Joe

i love them. the striping on the side and sleeves are alot going on but it works for me. i think there great, and hope this becomes the new home jersey

Oct 19 · 11:14 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterHollywood

I Love it all! great job. I would have liked to see the old logo from the 90s though, would've been cool

so much unrealized potential

Oct 19 · 11:28 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterPat

The shoulder yoke piping and the arm piping look like the are going to collide where the "TV Numbers" will be... Curious how cramped that will look on the ice

The striping in general is WAY to busy, but the increased use of orange is welcome... I like the Webbed-D better then the whole wordmark by a mile, but I kind of wish they would put the re-colored original mark on the chest and the Webbed-D as the shoulder patch... An improvement, but it's too little to get overly excited about

I love the fact that it has that cool "D" logo on the front. That is what should be on the front of their home/away uniforms, not some crappy wordmark.
What I don't like is the fact that its black. They already have a black jersey. They should have reversed the colors and went with a orange jersey with black trim rather then the other way around. I also don't like the collar.
As well, they should leave that silly cartoonish "Mighty Ducks" logo in the past and not bring it back as a shoulder logo.

I like that they are finally trying to make more use of the orange and all, but I think it may be too much now. I mean, all the orange and the lack of gold makes the predominantly gold logo seem kind of out of place to me now.

I am actually a fan of the "Webbed- D" logo myself since it's pretty clever and I like that it's not a word mark here, so it's got that going for it. I also like the new shoulder patch paying homage to the Mighty Ducks too. The things that are really troubling though are the terrible stripes going along the sides of the jersey... Just FAR to busy. I am also not feeling the shoulder lining either since it looks out of place.

All in all, they are along the right tracks here, but still pretty far off in my honest opinion. If they lose a LITTLE bit of the orange, get rid of the shoulder lining and fix the horrid stripes up the side of the shirt, then they could have a real winner here.

it kinda reminds me of a motocross jersey, or a projoy jersey that i see a lot of roller hockey teams use. (theres a lot of roller hockey in so-cal so it wouldn't surprise me if thats where some of the inspiration came from, which isn't really a bad thing. it looks alright...better than anything my stars got currently

Ugly lasers and that Star Trekky D logo. Some people will actually buy that hideous mess. Personally I think that is just about the worst look in sports. What a terrible brand the Ducks have.

Oct 19 · 12:23 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterel

They should just go back to the "Mighty Ducks" logo on the front. Their mascot remained the same, why can't the logo?

The "D" logo should be turned into their Alternate Logo.

Oct 19 · 12:50 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterCG

Its definitely an upgrade from their current jerseys, and yeah this will definitely become the new home jersey in time. I don't mind them staying with black now that the Flyers have ditched their black jerseys. While the sides and sleeves may not be all that attractive, I'm happy to see a jersey that breaks free of the draconian RBK edge templates.

Oct 19 · 12:52 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJerseyJunky

nice. i was starting to doubt these colors didnt work to well together but thety proved me wrong

Oct 19 · 1:12 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterst4rr

feh. Vertical stripes. The shoulder piping doesn't really blend well with the sleeves striping. The logo looks wrong. I don't like this, It reminds me of a RHI uniform from the mid 90s

Oct 19 · 1:50 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterEricRomain

I enjoy the front logo as well (the only thing better would be that angry mallard head that someone cooked up here once upon a time), but the side stripes scream "leftover 70's shirt" to me... thank goodness the body isn't Chocolate Brown to go with the Tangerine! What's next? Avacado? Old Gold? I like retro HOCKEY, not retro fashion!

Very curious to see the cresting... will it be retro block style? Orange as the main colour? Orange pants would be bizarre and yet... I could see it...

Oct 19 · 2:24 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterDallas Hicks

Its different than most jersey's looks good I like the creative use of the swoops on the sleeves

Oct 19 · 3:36 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterTrevor

I know this is gonna get buried in the comments, and I've already given my opinion near the top, but I want to add...

I honestly prefer the current home jersey to this. There, I said it. Kill me if you must.

I like the "D" logo instead of the wordmark, but the current home is much more easier to look at. The stripes are just crazy on this. Seems like something somebody here would've come up with for the old "Freak Out Friday".

Oct 19 · 3:40 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterKevin Y

The Ducks officially have the worst uniform set in the NHL. No identity. Nothing unique. Why even bother with a third jersey if you're not even going to try. GO BACK TO EGGPLANT!

Oct 19 · 3:42 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterKGB

You are totally wrong the striping on the sides are amazing. Altogether the jersey is better than I expected
Good Work Ducks

Oct 19 · 3:44 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMatt Defer

Not great, not bad, would rather just see the original duds brought back or brought back and just recolored if they are obsessed with the change from disney.... alot of people are complaining though that the D looks photoshopped and off center, but really i don't think its off center if you account for the length of the swoop at the bottom of the "D". Its just that open black webbed toe space makes it appear to be off center. Biggest gripe about that it now it kinda looks like the toes are meant to be a "B" or something, but there's not much else they could do with the "D" logo other than maybe angle it like the avalanche did with their duds back in the 90's because their design looked off center too....

Oct 19 · 4:01 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

P.S. I think it would have looked nicer, albeit might not go great with all the lines on the jersey, if they would have just gone and used full orange shoulder yokes over just the orange line.... would have taken a little more away from all the black and the hate for the why another black jersey topic i think anywho.

Oct 19 · 4:07 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

The Good: "Ducks" is replaced by the "D" finally, the old Mighty Ducks logo is back, orange is more noticeable
The Bad: The side panels remind of Buffalo's Goat head jersey design
The ugly: The piping around the shoulders. What is the point Carolina? Minnesota? Anybody?

Oct 19 · 5:16 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMatt

I think it's fresh! Beats the boring black home jersey. With the name and number on it it will be on my Xmas list.

Oct 19 · 5:28 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterBlakester50

Ghastly.

Oct 19 · 5:41 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

Vastly superior to the word mark, but still nothing to rush to the stores for. But I would say its high up there in Ducks jersey history. I would expect that Anaheim plans on having this be their primary Jersey if not next year the following. No reason not to.

Oct 19 · 5:41 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterDuck McDuckduck

Happy to see my Ducks mix it up a bit. I agree w/Chris on the striping...not completely wild about, but not something that will keep me from buying one. Good job again with the most up-to-date info Chris.

Oct 19 · 5:41 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterTheBenjamins

I'm thinking orange numbers and names or bust...

Oct 19 · 6:04 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

I actually like the side stripes. It's different.

Oct 19 · 7:15 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterFranco

I love the comments that this is unoriginal... What team has ever had this look? horizontal stripes are on every other team but no one calls it unoriginal

Oct 19 · 8:06 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterZiplock189

It looks to me like they are using too many elements. I would have liked to have seen an orange jersey with an old school design to it. Orange works! Just look at the Flyers! This looks too busy with the striping. That and it's another black jersey, not very original.

Oct 19 · 8:54 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAaron12

Im loving the range of comments here... Ppl seem to love it, or hate it.

I love it, its a modern look, and i welcome the orange. And i like the lines under the arms too, atleast they're not straight lines down to the hem like Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton or Florida, those sweaters look awful, these are an improvment from other sweaters that made the vertical line mistake.
Anaheim likes the swooshing designs, which i was never really big on, but i think this sweater works! The more i look at it the more i like it.
As for the ppl who said its the worst uniform ever... Atlantas thirds are the worst ever, by far.

Oct 19 · 9:08 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterBrad

these are gross. they took two extremes: the classic shoulders, and crazy sides. together they look like the worst of both worlds.

also, when the ducks rebranded the orange was intended to be almost non-existant. their colors were black and gold with minimal orange in order to pay homage to orange county california. it shows up on one stripe in the old jersey, i think in the lettering on their gloves.

when they come out with a white one it better have black sleeves and black striping, they would have been in a better spot just ripping off carolina.

Oct 19 · 9:17 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterDean

I like this. it's fairly original and nothing too horrid.

The only small thing I would change is the outline of the D, it should be orange.

Oct 19 · 9:55 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMark

People need to keep in mind the Ducks play in "Orange County" California. I think they are trying to play on that theme with the extra orange effects. It works for this native Southern Californian. This jersey out shines the dreaded 3rd jersey from the boys in L.A.

Oct 19 · 10:05 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterBlakester50

If the Ducks took this logo, put in on their current home and away sweaters, and recolored everthing into the old jade/eggplant template, they would at least be indentifiable. As of right now they look like the Lindros-era Flyers.

Oct 19 · 10:25 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterLee

Boy was I surprised to see this when I came here. But it was a happy surprise.

Seems to be a love it or hate it jersey from the looks of all the comments, but I will definitely be picking one up sometime in the future.

Oct 19 · 11:21 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterFretzy

i loved reading all the comments, its nice to see people finally express their thoughts on the blogs.

and like brad said, the more i look at it, the more i like it. if anything needs to change, the yoke on the shoulder. it is too much like carolina and minn. but i like how the side and sleeve stripes are different. no one has anything like that and it goes along with their current jeresy.

Oct 20 · 6:48 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterHollywood

Better than what they currently have, but still bad.

Oct 20 · 7:09 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterGlen

Note that the picture is of the replica jersey and not the game issued jersey. I am guessing that the side stripes will be more vertical on those (too bad) and that the arm stripes will not go quite as high (which is good) to allow room for the larger game jersey TV numbers.

Compare the replica and real Flames jersey and you will see this trend.

While I am not a fan of the colour "eggplant", at least it was unique and gave the team an identity. Eggplant, Silver and white with a very slight bit of black to differentiate the silver and white would make a great colour combination. If I could photoshop, I'd try it out.

Oct 20 · 9:05 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterslam

Ducks is a ridiculous name, and Might Ducks was even more ridiculous. Bringing back the "Mighty Ducks" image with their old logo is a mistake. Using the footprint of an animal isn't a bad idea, provided your team is the Lions or Bears or something fierce - many teams do this. The franchise's whole image needs an overhaul.

Oct 20 · 9:09 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterdalestalons

I'd call it average. In fact, I might actually say it's a good jersey if the logo is downsized a bit, or at least angled, so that the bulk of its mass isn't on the right. That and the shoulder yokes are really the only thing I dislike about it, as I can think of numerous primary and alternate jerseys from other teams that are worse. With the shoulders, the only other thing I could think of would be leaving them all black with no piping, but that would make the jersey too plain.

IMO, if they made this their primary and developed a matching away uni, then they would no longer be among the worst jersey sets in the league.

Oct 20 · 11:15 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterDurfee

I would have liked to see the Ducks do a tribute to the old California Seals jerseys or at least do an orange jersey. Another black jersey isn't what they need in a league full of color.

Oct 20 · 12:24 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAleyo

That is ugly. I still hate that D webbed foot logo too.

Oct 20 · 12:58 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterPAUL

This would be a decent third jersey if it was Orange. Instead they get a fat F for cranking out the league's 40,000th black jersey.

Oct 20 · 1:09 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterforgetyerskatesdream

I'm not really sure how I feel about this jersey. I live in the Inland Empire, so I see the Ducks all the time, and I swear they have the ugliest and most boring jerseys on the face of the earth, all sports included. I first looked at it and was like, wow, this is unique. I'm not really sure I'm sold on it personally, but it's much better than what they have now because at the very least its more interesting.

Oct 20 · 1:11 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJ.M.

HIDEOUS.
i can't stand the ducks and their uniforms. they'd be much better off in a forest green or even lighter, á la the original mighty ducks movie

Oct 20 · 7:58 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterdave

It looks like a Flyers and Penguins bizarro lovechild jersey

Oct 20 · 9:46 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterzanydanny

I respect it alot more then there current jerseys.

Oct 21 · 12:06 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAllan Caesar

The striping is terrible, throws off anything the jersey had going for it
