Sens, Flames Unofficial 3rd Skeds

A couple of Icethetics readers sent in third jersey schedules for the Senators and Flames. While I've been unable to independently verify them, they have been accurate to date.

We have multiple news items related to the Ottawa Senators alternate sweater, which will apparently see action tonight against Atlanta. There's an unofficial 10-game schedule, plus a possible brand new jersey.

First, the third jersey schedule comes from Sens fan Jason G., who tells me his season ticket agent provided the following home dates:

  • Thu., Oct. 28 - vs Florida
  • Tue., Nov. 9 - vs Atlanta
  • Wed., Nov. 24 - vs Dallas
  • Sat., Dec. 4 - vs Buffalo
  • Mon. Dec. 13 - vs Atlanta
  • Sat., Jan. 8 - vs Tampa Bay
  • Tue., Jan. 18 - vs Anaheim
  • Tue., Feb. 15 - vs NY Islanders
  • Tue., Mar. 1 - vs Boston
  • Thu., Mar. 17 - vs New Jersey

Ironically, the only team that will face the Sens in black this season more than once is the only team that has an equally bad, if not worse, alternate uniform — the Thrashers.

Remember, though this schedule was obtained through the team, it's not official until it comes through the team's PR people.

The other item comes from my favorite kind of source — the anonymous kind. (Sarcasm, for those unfamiliar.) I'm told the Senators have been doling out free third jerseys with ticket purchases lately.

"When I inquired about whether or not they'll be launching a vintage third or heritage [jersey]," the source explains, "I was greeted with a smile...but no official answer."

That doesn't tell us much but it was in my inbox and thought it worth sharing. Next season marks the Sens' (and Lightning's) 20th anniversary (1992-2012). Could they have a new alternate sweater in the works to celebrate?

Additionally, we have an unofficial third jersey schedule for the Calgary Flames. Again, I haven't been able to independently verify it, but four of the dates have already passed and game photos show the sweater was indeed used on those nights.

Icethetics reader Jeff T. sent along a link from the Calgarypuck Forums, in which a user called A Money offered up the schedule without citing its source. It features the following 12 home games:

  • Sun., Oct. 10 - vs Los Angeles
  • Sat., Oct. 16 - vs Edmonton
  • Sat., Oct. 30 - vs Washington
  • Wed., Nov. 3 - vs Detroit
  • Wed., Nov. 17 - vs Phoenix
  • Sat., Dec. 18 - vs Minnesota
  • Fri., Dec. 31 - vs Colorado
  • Wed., Jan. 26 - vs St. Louis
  • Wed., Feb. 9 - vs Ottawa
  • Sun., Mar. 6 - vs Nashville
  • Sat., Mar. 12 - vs Vancouver
  • Wed., Apr. 6 - vs Edmonton

The user also points out the Flames were scheduled to wear their white road sweaters in front of the home fans on Thursday, Oct. 28. Which they did.

And if I'm being honest, the above picture is from last season, before the design was converted to a Reebok Edge jersey. But the only thing that's really changed is the collar and the hemline — and the 30th anniversary patch.

Although the dates are unofficial, I'm adding both schedules to the sidebar calendar.

I'm not sure about the free jersey with ticket purchase, but the Sens Store is giving a black jersey free when you buy a white one.

As a Flames fan, I seriously hope that they adopt their current throwbacks as their full-time primaries.

My Dad went to a Sens game a couple weeks ago in a suite and they were just giving away free third jerseys there.

Man, are those Ottawa 3rds embarrassing in every way conceivable. Bring on the =O= . You would have an instant classic.

I'm going to be a pest and point out that this year's thirds are slightly different than pictured.
That and Jokenin isn't wearing #21 this season (for whatever reason).

lawl, jay-kay Chris, jay-kay.

I'm a Canucks fan, which more or less means I'm indifferent towards the Senators and absolutely despise the Flames, so this news isn't anything to write home about. But still, nice to know you're alive and blogging.

By the way, whatever happened to the all-star logo tournament? You essentially dropped it and I'm a bit curious as to what's going on there.

Ya ive noticed them giving away the black sweaters in Ottawa. The Sens Store's promotion is buy any "premier" reebok jersey (home or road) and get a black third sweater for free, it got me to buy a red jersey for a friend and keep the black for myself. Ive also seen ticket promtions where you can buy a certain game night package and get the sweater for free... I certainly hope they're clearing the inventory to bring in some new duds!!
As for the flames I think they should make that they're permanent home sweater too, its such a nice sweater, The ones they wear now are beyond terrible, I just bought one of these throw backs and love it, cant wait to wear it on the outdoor rink!

I totally agree with CosmicMonkey. The Flames' original uniforms are great, both the red and white versions. Just like the Original Six, the uniform is colourful, but simple and traditional in design. Being a Canucks fan, I always loved seeing the Flames in their reds come to Vancouver to play the Canucks in their home yellows. The black Flaming C sweater with the Flaming Horse shoulder patch could still be used as a third to keep things interesting. Just redesign the latter to match the original in design in terms of the stripes and number font.

The SENS third jersey is just atrocious.

Hopefully they bring out this one. Somebody has an internet petition in favour of it!

Hey Jacques, way to be the first one to give me a hard time about getting a new job and moving across the continent. LOL! As I've said, I know the cobwebs are starting to show and I'm doing my best. Thanks for understanding. I hope to have things back to normal by Christmas time.

Yeah, they need to fix that Flames schedule so that those are the only games they AREN'T wearing the 'retro' jerseys. Their regular home is just awful, that 80's red though is just fantastic.

As far as Ottawa is concerned... I kind of hope this is a "new coke" kind of deal, introduce that hideous thing with it's 700 stripes and terrible logo on the upper chest, make sure everyone hates it. THEN get a jersey with the =O=, or even bring back one of the classics.

To be honest, this site is a heck of a lot better than this time last year, I will always love at least one update a week (not saying you haven't been updating) than zero, keep up the good work Chris.

Thanks Max. I think I've been pretty attentive, considering. The last time I let a week go by with fewer than two posts was July. That's an impressive streak for someone with both a job and a life that take priority. (Indeed, many will be surprised to find this website is not maintained by a machine.)

I personally hope the Sens go back to their home/road look from 1997-1999, where the white and black were the basis and the =O= jersey takes over as the new 3rd. The whole "be Red" theme was birthed out of the 2006 playoffs and the problem with that is that the Sens (up 'til that point) had always had black. On a side note, what makes the SENS jersey look so bad? I realize it shouldn't have a text logo or all the vertical stripes on it, but it does look sharp from the broadcast angle on TV.

I have a perfect excuse for the "Sens" to roll out the unused 2D senator logo or the =O= with barber pole stripes...

Put the Senators in next year's Heritage Classic. You'd think that'd force them to get creative. Let them play Toronto (who will be donning new duds as well next year), and we can at least get the ball rolling for full-time use in 2012-2013 if not earlier.

Also...am I the only guy who LOVES the Flames fauxback they're using for the Heritage game? It's a shame that will be a one and done, and not used after this season. I think that sweater, the Yellow B's one and the Powder Pens will always have a special place in my heart. The fact that none will be used next season is beyond sad. The Bruins using 2 black sweaters blows.

Those Sens jerseys are the ugliest in the league, bar none.
