Devils Vintage Jerseys Revealed!

Devils 1980s jerseysHa! It worked! In my last post, I said don't count on seeing the New Jersey Devils' throwback sweaters until the night they wear them — March 17 — hoping to jinx it.

And it seems to have worked!

The Devils revealed their vintage red and green sweaters tonight on their official web site. They announced the sale of 82 player-worn practice jerseys from the 1980s — sample seen in the photo above.

Now before you go crazy about the iron-on crests, let me point out that these are not the jerseys the Devils will wear in March.

Devils throwback jersey (Glocally Newark)This is! (Sort of.)

Glocally Newark posted pictures tonight. Apparently, the Devils Den team store just received their shipment and they will go on sale tomorrow!

You'll notice this is NOT a Reebok Edge jersey. This is a genuine old school CCM sweater. Now, does that mean the item pictured is a replica or could it actually be an authentic?

Can't say yet. Unfortunately, Glocally Newark doesn't appear to have that information. However, they do have a lot more pictures and I would encourage you to have a look for yourself.

So keep in mind these are two unrelated items I've posted together here: 1) The Devils have announced player-worn practice jerseys from the 1980s are on sale now, and 2) Glocally Newark has pictures from the Devils Den store of the throwback jerseys that will also be on sale.

I'll post more details and information as they become available. Thanks to those of you who emailed in on this tonight!

I was gonna say how none of these can be the REAL jerseys, since none of them have the NHL shield at the collar.

Now, I love the jersey. It just doesn't say "Devils" to me. Obviously, black is the color that works, although this design would work brilliantly for the Wild, and as I'm not a big fan of their current reds, I think this could be a great upgrade.

I love how the Devils do everything so right. Instead of bring back throwbacks as a third/alternate or trying to make it full time, they do the proper thing and make it a one night event only.

They really are an example of how to do jerseys the right way.

That being said I love these jerseys! I already own one. Maybe it's because I'm Italian though and love the red, white, and green.

The Hawks and Wings WC jerseys from last year were sold as CCMs; I have both as CCM-style jerseys, not RBK.

I would be extremely surprised if the game worn was a CCM sweater and not a Reebok. Look at the flames, I would expect a large Reebok vector on the back collar and a modern NHL shield on the front of the collar (so much for "throwback" eh?). With any luck it will be a traditional fit sweater and not an edge.
I wonder if they'll where white or red in the green? It would make more sense to do whites since that's what they wore at home during the 'green' era.

Had a feeling these wouldnt be Edge. Hopefully its not just the Replica's that use the CCM cut

I wouldn't doubt that they're wearing the CCM sweater. Didn't Montreal wear one of their CCM jerseys on one of their centennial jersey nights?

Huzzah! A major coup for CCM jerseys! The collar tag on the linked page says that this is from the "Team Classics" collection, which I'm certainly not familiar with. This might be new, or it might be related to the CCM versions of the Winter Classic 09 sweaters on icejerseys.com, I just don't know yet because I haven't seen one in person.

I really hope that the Devils, always one to resist change, will do as the Canadiens did for their 1945 throwback, and wear straight-up CCM jerseys, or at the very least, do like the Flames and wear a CCM-esque jersey with a collar logo (right on the apex of the collar and not an odd back panel, either).

I like these jerseys, beyond just their aesthetic. If CCM is the regular, I hope that everybody goes out and buys them. Vote with your wallets!

They are sold out of numbers 1-49 the practice jerseys will be given out the day of the game, or they will ship it to you for an extra $10. i was told from the devils den staff that they will be selling replica throw back jerseys during the game

Doogie, how are those CCM versions? Do they look like the on-ice jerseys but have CCM tags and the CCM cut? Are they worth it for an anti-RBK guy suck as myself?

Feb 10 · 11:33 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterHockey Week

I wish they would go back to this jersey set full-time. As someone else said, leave the red and black to the Hawks and Senators (and the Hurricanes too, yuck).

i dont know, those arent very edge-ified

It would be awesome if the Devils do wear CCM cut jerseys for the game. Will it be possible to buy this jersey from any of the online sites (icejerseys.com,rivercity) or will only Devil's Den have them? Will they be selling just replica's or will you be able to buy an authentic with a fight strap attached to it?

The Devils' home page has more pictures of the new jerseys, and based on the pictures of the Patrick Elias jersey, they're going with the modern-style numbers they've always used on the red-and-blacks, instead of the older block numbers they originally used on the red-and-greens.

Sorry for the late reply, Hockey Week. They look the same to me: CCM materials, and no WC patch, but the same on-ice look. They've even got the little swatch of cloth at the collar where the NHL logo would go (but doesn't). I honestly prefer the RBK material to the CCM material -- it's softer on the skin, and I usually wear it on top of a T-shirt -- but visually, they're identical, as far as I can tell.

holy hell those are the worst jerseys ever now that they've turned into CCM's old trash. i cant believe people think those garbage bags are actually better than the reebok material.

Feb 13 · 12:06 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterGARG

Had a friend that went to the game on Friday and he said that the jersey material seemed thinner than any replica that he ever saw in the past.

They're already on sale in the NHL Store in NYC. I saw them on Saturday. I should have taken a picture. They're completely CCM vintage. It doesn't say RBK on them and it doesn't have the NHL logo at the base of the collar. Looks just like the pictures.

When will teams realize that all things vintage ... and all things green... can be big, big cash cows? Look at the Bhawks and their green jerseys (kinda cool). Look at the love for the old whale and north stars. Good steps with the Devs going vintage for a day and hunter green returning in Minnesota.

But when will Dallas and Vancouver realize that simply slapping together a kelly-green jersey with the same logo and stripe pattern that exists (if you wanna be lazy; i'm not promoting that per say) would be a dynamite sell? All Dallas has to do is re-create their old green model from their cup years or do a vintage North Stars jersey...sales would rocket up. Vancouver does the old spaghetti skate or a green version of stick in rink...bang ! Edmonton and NYI do white versions of their nice throwback royal blues / oranges...slam dunk. Buffalo Sabres...soooooooo simple. You make the current third the primary home. Use the white winter classic one (which is already made practically) as your away and a royal blue as a third (so dark / royal and white with the old logo). Shuzamm. Devils maybe could alternate each season between red Xmas tree jerseys and white Xmas tree jerseys as thirds or used on holidays. If the Bruins go with the gold full time...instant classic.

If the Ducks go "mighty" (not sure if that's allowed due to licensing agreements), you're talking about vintage cred and an instant draw. Flames should just allow their classic Red and white to slot in as a full-time third. No sweat. If the Lanche traded their current blueberry thirds for a Nords jersey or changing the primary to have one with the Mt. range, people will eat that up. A red version of the flying panther...people loved that. That jersey is the only one that I think actually works with the piping (don't shoot me). If the Kings rotated a purple jersey and Nashville had the confidence to make mustard cool again, these would be huge sellers. If the senators did the striped rugby red/ black and white, this could be the best jersey in the game (or they could be less daring and use their updated 2-D logo on a black jersey with alternating red and gold stripes. Simple. Slam dunk. All the Leafs would have to do is make a blue version of their current thirds or add stripes to the current set....sooooooooo easy and painless.

So so simple.
