New Look for the New Year

Just rang in 2011 at the Space Needle here in Seattle. They put on a spectacular fireworks show, let me tell you. Very much enjoying my new city.

The new year will mean lots of new features and endeavors for me and Icethetics. But more than that, a change in the calendar usually means a new look for this particular website. And right now you're looking at it.

Gone are the bright blue and orange in favor of a more muted color scheme and widened page in anticipation of a brand new signature feature of Icethetics. Details to come on that soon.

The new design isn't fully integrated yet. I still have some work ahead of me, but I wanted to get it launched right away. So if you see something that doesn't look right, I'll be getting to it.

If you have any comments on the new look or suggestions for new features, just scroll down and join the conversation.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the redesign and continue to make Icethetics a regular read in 2011. Happy new year!

By the way, don't forget the NHL has moved the Winter Classic back to 8 PM eastern tomorrow night. Looking forward to seeing both teams in action in their new sweaters. And the game should be exciting too!

Awesome new look, but the font looks off?

You realize we stayed up all night? This is kind of hard on tired eyes.

In general, I like the new look. Would like to see orange implemented somewhere.

The logo at the top of the page looks like you just used wordart, but the page design is quite nice.

Orange stroke on the letters would look SWEET!!

Other than that, LOVE the look. Happy New Year!

Great job, Chris. The new look is crisp, clean and easy to view -- 3 facts that should be priorities in new jersey designs, too, eh?!

Happy new year and welcome to the Pacific Northwest! Be sure to explore the area and if you come up to "majestic" Vancouver Island, don't be shy to get in touch with us that live around here.

Happy New Year fellow jersey geeks!

Not really a fan of the font on the main logo and "established 2007" is tough to read. I'm sure you're on it- looks like a sketch.

As always nice job. It's nice to have a place to go to share a common interest with so many other fans. I've always been fascinated by the logos, colors, and uniforms in all sports, but none could compair to hockey. Hockey managed to take the idea of "Team Identity" and "Unity", and bring it to another level. Since the begining of recorded history, cultures banded together and displayed thier common thread, whether it be war paint on skin, stitching on a flag, or the clothing on thier back. We've always proudly displayed our allegiance, and that translates so well into modern day sports. With the very best displayed in the game of hockey! Wear your colors proudly, while also remembering that while we stand by different teams, we all stand by hockey, and that keeps us under a common flag.

Good looks, nice colour scheme, but the banner looks too... grungy.

Jan 1 · 3:35 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterCanuckstar

I did like the previous design, but this one is a heck of a lot better. It's wider and generally feels cleaner.

Also, Happy New Year!

New look ain't bad, but the old was a bit more eye pleasing to be honest. Bit too much going on now color wise, the blue back round blended things together better imo. Also preferred the old logo BUT!!! would much rather have content over web site palette changes!!!! Where is our discussion about the columbus third jersey superstition Chris?!!!!

Jan 1 · 5:44 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

Awesome site Chris, I enjoy this one its easy on the eyes....lol btw. how are you adapting from warm tampa to freezing seattle ?

Jan 1 · 9:37 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKarim

Not bad. Everyone will be used to it in a couple of weeks.

Jan 1 · 9:48 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterFranco

looks awesome!!!

Jan 1 · 10:03 PM PST | Unregistered Commenteradmiralcheese

Ehh... it's okay. I do like the wider post space. Not so cramped with the sidebar.

And hey, the BJs managed their second win in those thirds! They're still ugly, though. And I hope Pittsburgh never wears those Winter Classic jerseys ever again! Either stick with the 1968-72 powder blues, or bring back either the white-sleeved 1977-80 navy jersey, or (preferably) the gold-sleeved 1980-92 black jerseys.

bring back the old wordmark, it was original and looked way better then what you have their now

Jan 1 · 11:51 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJhero

I love the actual site design, but the banner at the top isn't very good. The text with the ugly gradient and drop shadow looks really amateurish, as does the use of overlay for the tagline/stripe/established 2007 stuff

Jan 2 · 2:14 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterColton

Looks great!

Jan 4 · 8:32 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDK

Is the banner going to be updated? It looks like a temporary one to me.
