Sens to Unveil Heritage Classic Jersey

Ottawa's new sweater to launch on Nov. 28

While America celebrates Thanksgiving, Canada will celebrate the arrival of a new NHL sweater. The Ottawa Senators announced Sunday they will unveil their 2014 Heritage Classic jersey on Thurs., Nov. 28. The outdoor game will be hosted by the Vancouver Canucks at B.C. Place on March 2.

As we've come to expect, the next 11 days will be filled with photo and video teasers through the Sens' social media avenues. In case you want to follow them, here are their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. But you can always count on seeing them here as well.

Also included in the press release was this insight into the big game.

The Heritage Classic game is a tribute to the 1915 Stanley Cup match where the Vancouver Millionaires (PCHA) faced the Ottawa Senators (NHA). This would be the first time that the champions from both professional leagues would face off for the Stanley Cup.

Does this mean the Canucks will reprise those Vancouver Millionaires sweaters from last season?

It sure sounds that way. Those jerseys were too nice not to get a second go-around. But if that is the case, it would be the first time any Winter Classic jersey had been used prior to its outdoor appearance. (Yes, they've mostly been throwbacks, but you know what I'm saying.)

If the Canucks sport maroon, the Sens would have to go with something lighter. Many readers have expressed a desire to see a "vintage white" version of the Senators' black third jersey — also known as the Heritage Jersey. At this point that's almost a shoo-in. It could make for a great-looking game!

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it. (In person!)

Maybe the Canucks go with a vintage white version of the Millionaires sweater so that it is 'new' and then Ottawa would get the coloured version and be able to sport something we haven't seen before as well?

If the Canucks do wear the same millionaires jerseys and the sens wear a white version of their third I hope the refs wear the uniforms they wore in the first heritage Classic, (the off white ones with no stripes) otherwise the game would look too crazy with all that striping!

The Millionaires jersey the Canucks wore last season have to be the greatest jersey set they wore in franchise history. I would love to see that one again. If not, they could invert the colours and perhaps wear a white version of it. As for the Senators, I have always been a fan of their inaugural jerseys. Depending on what Vancouver wears, I would be happy if the Sens wore either the black version or the white version. I am not a fan of their current jerseys (I don't like the 3D senator) but their 3rd jersey with the "O" isn't bad at all. Much better than the hideous "Sens" black 3rd jersey they had a few years ago.

Canucks could also wear a Johnny Canuck variation of their jersey where Johnny Canuck is the primary logo. I like that logo and have always felt the Canucks should use that as their primary logo, rather than that hideous orka whale. Or better yet, just revert back to the 90's black and yellow skate logo! That was classic as well.

That would be an excellent pair of jerseys for that game.

Also, didn't Montreal wear their regular roads for the Heritage classic against Calgary?

I fully believe the Sens Heritage Classic jersey will be a vintage white version of their current (fauxback) alternate jersey, while Canucks will predictably wear their Millionaires uniform. Should be a good looking Heritage Classic game.

Can't wait to pick me up one of those Sens heritage jerseys! Hopefully they'll score another winner like the current one.

Vancouver will probably reveal their jersey on the same day, since both teams are playing each other that night. I too hope for a Johnny Canuck jersey though.

@Jatt,

I'm totally with you on Johnny Canuck. I believe that Johnny is going to replace the corporate and constipated orca once the Millionaires Stanley Cup centennial celebrations are over and done with.

I also agree on the Senators uniforms. Another bad mess. Hate their 3D senator. His face looks too much like Mark Messier's.

Wow, did I just mention the orca and Messier in the same post?? Yikes!!

I was hoping the Canucks would wear skate logo jersey of the early 90's. It's about time that jersey made a comeback.

You're going to the game?? Lucky!

@Cement_Hands: Yep, but it's nothing to do with luck. Just money.

I'm probably going to the game too Chris!

Hrm, I would hope they'd avoid "vintage white". That weird bit of revisionist history really annoys me. If they wore cream back then, rather than white, then make it cream. But if you were to go back in time to a live game the whites would be white. "Vintage White" is the jersey being dirty from age and use, why not add some water stains and creases from them being in a box for 60 years as well?

What Matt Marczel said. I think the Sens new jersey will be a reverse throwback.

The Senators have posted a video showing Jason Spezza's and Erik Karlsson's reactions. They really like it and think it's old-fashioned and traditional.
