Stars CEO Previews New Look
Dallas announces official unveiling date of June 4
On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars publicly announced the date for their new uniform and logo unveiling. It's June 4. And as I said two weeks ago, I will be there. (And thank you to everyone who has donated a few bucks here and there to help me with the cost of the trip.)
In the press release, the Stars' CEO spilled a few details about the new look. All right, well not really.
The Dallas Stars announced today that the team will unveil its new uniform and logo on Tuesday, June 4th at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas at 6:00 p.m. Owner and Governor Tom Gaglardi, President and CEO Jim Lites, General Manager Jim Nill, Executive Advisor and Alternate Governor Mike Modano and Stars forward Jamie Benn will all be a part of the special event.
"Since Tom Gaglardi took over as owner, we have been working diligently on a rebrand that is classic, simple and true-to-hockey," said Lites. "This event will showcase the results of that process to our loyal fans and will also provide us with an opportunity to announce several new developments about the future of our franchise."
Aside from unveiling the new logo and uniform, the team will also address the current state of the franchise and will make a significant announcement regarding the 2013-14 season.
Classic, simple and true to hockey. Let's hope they live up to those words.
I'm excited about the trip. But more than that, I'm thrilled to bring some original reporting to Icethetics for a change. By the way, if you were thinking of making a donation, it's not too late to chip in. You have until June 2 — unless 100% of the costs are covered before then.
And once again I have to thank you guys for the incredible generosity!

What does this mean? "...will make a significant announcement regarding the 2013-14 season."
That mystery announcement has to be Jamie Benn being named captain (since Brendan Morrow was traded at the deadline). Why else would he be the only player in attendance to model the jersey?
The Leafs did this too when they unveiled their new jerseys in 2010, while also naming Phaneuf captain. It's a really smart way to do it, because the player simultaneously unveils the new jersey and the C on his chest.
Chris, looks like you might have some extra (but exciting) live reporting to do!
I really hope they don't go and oversimplify it like the Lightning did with their new uniforms.
I have heard nothing but very good things about Tom Gaglardi. He will do nothing but great things for not only Dallas, but hopefully for the future of the NHL. It is just too bad that he didn't get the Canucks ownership instead of Francesco Aquilini.
Looking forward to seeing the Stars' new uniforms.
I dont think a True-to-Hockey look means an alter to the Prince Albert Raiders uni's, something simpler
pretty obvious that they will be announcing Benn as captain
New captain and new COACH???
Many think that the special announcement will be naming Jamie Benn as captain, but don't rule out a number retirement for Mike Modano. Jamie Benn, at least at this point, is not a consensus pick for the new Stars captain, but he is their best player for those who make the argument that this is the way to make that decision.
As far as the jerseys go, you can count on a new "D & Star" logo, green for the main home jersey color (hopefully not too light) and (sigh) laces.
At this rate, the Stars may have a new coach to introduce at the even as well. A lot can happen in two weeks, especially with a handful of teams also looking for new guys behind the bench.
Ah, just more of what we want to hear. Good to see the final product idea getting thinned out. And as the day draws nearer, I get more and more excited. I really hope they don't let us down here. Classic? Hoping this means Dallas Stars classic, a la their classic star-shaped unis. Simple? Their current ones are as simple as they get. At least it won't be overly busy as...a certain never-worn Blues uniform was... True-to-hockey? I'm not exactly sure what to think of this. All I'm doing is hoping that this isn't a total screw up. It's an actual event, dangit, and it better be as good as it's expected to be.
As for a 2013-14 season announcement, I am stumped. Maybe they'll make a captain announcement? I'm not sure. One thing I'm hoping they'd do anytime soon is retire the #9 of Mike Modano, or the #22 of Brett Hull. Though I'm not sure either is relevant to this announcement they're making. Maybe they're moving to a new arena or building a new one, or something?
Outdoor game at Cowboys stadium...And I still think the jersey is going to be the same as the PA one.
Tuba over on Defendingbigd.com pointed out that the Texas Stars have new uniforms today. You can find them on the Texas Stars website.
Interesting how black makes it into the away jersey, but not the home jersey. Laces for home only, with shoulder and front logos alternating. I am hoping for a more unique font with the Dallas Stars jerseys, and that if these have rounded shoulder colors that they will leave them off of the big club's version. The green is nice and dark without being eagles or wild green, while the yellow is more of a burnt mustard or gold than bright yellow.
Somebody said that the Stars new uniforms could have purple on them. I think this person was just kidding but it would be interesting to see how they would incorporate purple even though I'm pretty sure they won't. The Stars owner said he wanted something classic and purple doesn't sound too classic, unless you are the Los Angeles Kings. Besides that, I think they will be mainly green and silver.
To follow up on what CC Dallas wrote, here's what the Texas Stars jerseys look like:

Silver? No way. Hopefully pre-1990 green and athletic gold.
