Did Dallas Leak Their Own Logos?

Screen shots from Zach Hutchison (via Stars iOS app)

Never-before-seen logos appear on Stars' mobile app

The Dallas Stars may have leaked their own logos tonight. Oops!

The logos aren't scheduled to be unveiled officially until June 4. But it appears the Stars themselves are responsible for an accidental leak, by way of the Wallpapers section of their own iOS mobile app. The images have since been removed, of course.

A user on the HFBoards web forum named "Zrhutch" posted what he says are screen shots from the app. Zrhutch is Zach Hutchison, who emailed me tonight to confirm he was among the first to spot and post these images. He made sure to grab them for us all to see.

Now that you've seen them, what do you think? It's hard for me to doubt they're the real deal considering they showed up on the team's own mobile app. Are you surprised? Impressed or disappointed? Personally, I'm still formulating an opinion. Gut reaction is good though.

By the way, I would've had this news on the site sooner, but see there was this little breaking news event in my neck of the woods that kept me at work all night. (My contribution to our coverage tonight if you're interested.)

I'm gonna say that I'm skeptical of these being legit at best.
-I've been doing some searching on boards to see if anybody else spotted it as well and I haven't seen annybody say that they also saw it on the Stars ios app.
-I'm also not sure that this is legit because it feels like a terrible job that somebody would do with MS Paint. I feel like the Stars would hire designers that would do this, let along the idea that the new owner, Tom Galliardi, would consider this in any way, shape, or form, classic and timeless (which is what he's going after.)
-It's also really easy to photoshop screenshots of iphone applications.
- As a die-hard Dallas Stars fan I'm praying these aren't it.
-Also, the Texas Stars just unveiled there new home and away kits that match the Forest Green, Gold, Black, and White of the team colors and since the AHL for the Stars has ALWAYS followed their NHL big brothers color scheme it makes me think the silver is fake.

speaking of which Chris, I'm kinda surprised you haven't said anything about the new Texas Stars jerseys yet. lol

I agree with Pathoffman. This is either a hoax, or the team put out a concept logo to see people's reactions. The real logo would have to be much cleaner. I know the Stars already hinted at using Kelly green (North Stars), but it would have been cool to use Eagles green/Manitoba Moose Green (PMS 316) with silver and black. Cowboys fans wouldn't like it, but real hockey fans would.

I wouldn't mind something similar to their affiliate's road jersey. http://www.texasstarshockey.com

I have a hard time believing that the gold is completely gone, but it would definitely set it apart. As for the logo, it isn't bad but let's not forget that these could be secondary or tertiary logos that accompany the new branding, not to mention that they could be decoys that they whipped up while doing the real app design.

I think we'll still be surprised on the 4th.

@PATHOFFMAN

I hope to God you're right =(

I think Rey hit the nail on the head, it's like a sheriff logo which fits the get al Wild West/ Texas connection well. That being said it looks rubbish. Hopefully that's their secondary logo

Screams 'AHL'

On its own, it's neither good nor bad, but I'd be interested in seeing how it will look on the jerseys when they get unveiled.

Honestly? I think it looks great, for a minor league team.

Can't say I'm terribly impressed. The bevel thing seems to be popular in Texas these days, Then you have the spike serifs/indents... not exactly a timeless look, but since we've got them in the NHL shield...

The more and more I look at it the more and more it reminds me of an arena football team logo.....

Very disappointing. I was expecting bright green and yellow and get... this.

Let's call that "silver" what it is - a drab gray. Maybe a D+ overall.

I like it. Don't LOVE it, but I think it's solid and a change for the better.

Not bad but uninspired. Looks like something someone slapped together to meet a deadline. Disappointed, expected better.

I'd say it is fake. It lacks quality (as others have pointed out). Plus, it's extremely easy to fake an iOS app. Just screen cap the app, and add your own image in Photoshop.

If this is official, shame on them for going with a designer that isn't up to Icethetics "concept art" standards. There's some seriously good designers on here.

Hate the logos, should have changed name as well, stars is a terrible name, only worked when they were in Minnesota

I can clearly see an " R " formation the way this logo is done in a lower part right below a " D ". Yes, it is very similar to the current " Starbucks " logo at a first glance. It is another badly designed logo joining Winnipeg " Jets " .

Very nice colour scheme. I'm glad the Stars decided to have a true 'Dallas' look. I know there are Stars fans who see comparisons to the Philadelphia Eagles. However, look at it this way: Mavericks kelly green and Cowboys silver. A little of both and there you have Dallas's NHL brand.
