Building the Canes' New Look

Photos from Carolina Hurricanes (via Instagram)

Hurricanes add more teasers to Instagram

On the last day of May, the Carolina Hurricanes are continuing the daily sneak peeks at their new sweaters, being referred to as the "New Storm."

In the last two images, we got a few more insights into the new design. Thursday's photo showed what looks to be the left sleeve of the home jersey. But many have questioned whether the number is white or gray/silver. The dramatic lighting is not our friend here. What's your call?

In today's release, we get the left shoulder of the road sweater. I'm basing that on what looks to be a swatch of white in the lower left corner of the photo. That would make the visible red area part of the shoulder yoke. From this angle, it looks like the secondary logo may be gone — or we may just be looking up too high on the shoulder to see it.

The black collar then seems to be confirmed for both sweaters. Now all that's left to figure out is the striping. Two more photos are scheduled to be posted this weekend — so by then we'll have all the team wants to give us ahead of the actual unveiling on June 4. That happens at noon ET.

At least since it's the weekend it will fly by and before we know it we'll have new threads from two teams. While we all anxiously await the others mentioned to unveil theirs. My seat has an edge, and I'm on it.

If it weren't for that image in the upper right (red trimmed by black and white) we'd already have the whole jersey. I just can't make sense of where that goes - if you assume the striping on the two jerseys will be the same.

The road uniform is looking quite similar to Team Canada's white jersey. http://www.icejerseys.com/products/Team-Canada-IIHF-Swift-Replica-White-Hockey-Jersey-p6371/.

Looks to me like the road sweater could resemble the Team Canada jerseys in terms of layout.

So basically they used Team Canada jerseys and added a black neck?

looking kind of like team Canada jerseys.

Interesting. I think the numbers on the home left sleeve are silver with black trim. It makes sense given that the numbers on the away are black with silver trim.

Well that would be certainly disappointing if it ends up being a replica of the Canada jersey. Though with the image on the top right, that seems to spice things up a bit.

Actually, I predict from the crest all the way up to the yoke and sleeves it will be a Canada copy. The waist and hem stripe styles will be different, the home unis will have the one on the top right, and the left ones will have the bottom left. If only I knew how to make jersey concepts, I'd gladly do so for what's in my head right now.

Either way, June 2nd can't come any faster.

@NASCARfan160. June 4th, not 2nd.
Also, in general, the red on the latest one (bottom right) might be the home. The white may be the captain's C as Eric Staal is modeling it.

We may look at a jersey that would be close to the Canadian national team. That's my opinion

The Canes are trying to subliminally endorse E. Staal, J. Staal, Skinner, Ward, and Harrison for the Canadian Olympic team in Sochi.

Aside from discarding the yoke outline that was added at the start of the Reebok Edge era, I've yet to see anything that I would consider an improvement.

Although I agree that it may look similar to the canada jerseys, I would love to see a mockup of what people think these might look like. Chris has anyone submitted any samples?

Pepper: One or two. I plan to get some posted on the Concepts page ahead of the unveiling on Tuesday morning.

If you look on the one with the road crest, it looks like there is a black stripe above a red one on the sleeve, you can just barely make it out in the background

The black C they just released is heavenly.

Speaking of collars, I really dislike all the Reebok Edge Collars with the NHL shield on them. The ones with ties that cover up the shield are OK, but I really prefer the preEDGE collar that the Blackhawks.Devils,Islanders and basically most of the NHL teams had. The NHL shield does not belong on the collar! This new Hurricanes collar looks a little better than some edge collars, due to the fact it is one solid color.

I get that you're really into the Dallas jersey reveal event and all, but it'd be cool to see some Hurricanes jerseys in the concepts sections around this time. I'm sure people could have fun trying to design a jersey based on the teaser photos that have been revealed.

Andrew O.: I'd love to post more Hurricanes concepts, but it all comes down to what gets submitted to me.

Jun 1 · 2:12 PM PDT | Registered CommenterChris

This jersey could end up being really nice if they're simplifying while managing to distinguish themselves from future division rivals the New Jersey Devils and future conference rivals the Detroit Red Wings.

As for the comments about the NHL shield on the collars, I can sympathize somewhat, but the way some players tuck their jerseys the old positioning of the logo just would never be seen. And as long as the only logos on NHL jerseys are that of the team, the league, the manufacturer, and not Visa, McDonald's, Nissan or other logos you occasionally see on practice jerseys, I won't have reason to complain, personally.

the last teaser shows a lace up collar for the home uniform ;)... I'm sure it's going to look fantastic!!!
