Heritage Classic Logo Surfaces
Logo for 2014 event is remarkably similar to 2011 version
The logo for the 2014 NHL Heritage Classic surfaced on Twitter last night. Noah Kallner tweeted the photo above, which shows a Heritage Classic t-shirt emblazoned with the never-before-seen mark.
The logo is remarkably similar to the one belonging to the last Heritage Classic which took place in Calgary in 2011. If you need a refresher on what that logo looked like, here you go.
On first glance, they look exactly the same but for the skyline in the center. But the eagle-eyed will note a few more updated details — the ribbons, the frame, etc. I'm actually very happy about this. It'd be easy to say the league wasn't be creative by retooling an old design, but it was such a beautiful design to begin with. I'm glad it's getting a second life in Vancouver.
The 2014 NHL Heritage Classic takes place Sun., March 2 at B.C. Place in Vancouver, B.C. between the Vancouver Canucks and the Ottawa Senators. No official word on the jerseys yet, but it's rumored the Sens are working on a light version of their black Heritage Jersey introduced in 2011.
If that's the case, the Canucks could break out their Millionaires sweaters again.
It's possible this could be my last blog updated for a little while. I'll be on vacation until the beginning of August with very little web access. I'll try to keep up with Twitter so make sure you keep an eye there.
And there's a French version, too!
This afternoon we got a better look at the details of the logo when the French version was posted on Facebook by a page called Hockey Rumors & Trades. I'll say it again. This is a really sharp design!

I'm 100% in the same boat as you.
As much I like seeing brand new designs put together, it's hard to be disappointed by the retooling of that beautiful logo.
Thumbs up.
I flippin' love this site. My life is better because of its existence.
The maroon font on the hoodie seems to be a good indication that VAN will wear a Millionaires uniform.
Shouldn't the abbreviation for British Colombia in French be C.-B. for Colombie-Britannique? I'm not entirely sure on that but it struck me as odd.
Ryan:
It's not quite wrong, If they are using it in the same way you would address mail, then you normally would still use BC abbreviation.
At work we receive mail from clients in Quebec all the time, addressed as BC, even from completely francophone companies.
The ribbons are the exact same... I'm pretty eagle eyed, but that's identical... but that's not a bad thing, it's a good thing. No need to fear calling a spade a spade, spades are good.
The one thing that bothers me about that Calgary design is the mountains. Calgary isn't on or near mountains of any kind. The Rockies are so far away you can't really even see them from there. Kind of an odd random thing to add just to fill in space.
@ RALPH ISAAK: have you ever been to Calgary?? The Rockies are quite visible.
The Rockies in the background of calgarys skyline has long been a symbol of the city.
Love the design. when you have something as good as this, minor changes are all that's called for. A little tweak of the shield and drop in the Vancouver skyline and it's near perfect.
Hope the jerseys are equally as good. I'd really love Justin Cox's red version of Ottawa's heritage jersey, but I'd be happy for the design in white. (Real white, not vintage white!) As for Vancouver, how about adapting last year's Millionaires jersey with current Canucks colours?
Ralph: What part of Calgary is your vantage? Its been 15 years now since I lived there but on any clear day in the NW you don't even need to hike up COP or Nose Hill to see the mountain peaks. Im sure the same holds true in SW. The Calgary image is true.
I live deep in the Southeast of Calgary and even driving up Hwy. 22X (Marquis Of Lorne Trail), on a clear day the mountains are easily seen....
But yeah, jazzed to see the Canucks finally getting a Heritage Classic... might have to make the trek out west to see Lu and the boys take on the Sens. GO NUCKS GO!
