HF&P, Part 27: New Jersey Devils

This "Hockey Fans & Photoshop" series seems to be winding down, but I assure you there's still so much more if you're a fan of hockey jersey designs. Let's move along with the New Jersey Devils.

So that's an interesting design coming from Randy Wilkins, apparently. It's cool and I like the idea of the horns at the shoulders, but unfortunately this is not an Rbk EDGE uniform design so the chances of ever seeing it on the ice are rather nil. That and the fact that it was designed by a fan and not a professional hired by the club or the league.

Still, I wanted to share it because it's something different. And that's what I'm all about. Not sure about the bars at the wrists and bottom of the jersey. A little close to the Hurricanes.

Anyway, I know, short posts today. Not much to say, really. If you have anything to add, please feel free to comment. I'd love to hear from you or anyone else.

Coming tomorrow: We're going to revisit both the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens and you won't want to miss this.

Thanks for the comment. It is a pretty cool design. Unfortunately it's not the Rbk EDGE style so there's really no chance of ever seeing them wear it.

I have heard that the Devils are not going to change anything on their jersey except maybe number fonts. Lamarillo and the team are against this whole uniform change as are the Blackhawks who have been fighting against this new uniform system for over two years, since rumours surfaced during the lockout. I guess this is no coincidence that this attitude comes from 2 of the coolest teams in the NHL. Go Devils and Hawks!

Great web Site, Thanks!!

Like you, I've heard nothing on a logo/uniform change for the Devils so I wouldn't expect to see them wearing anything much different from what they currently wear.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with the new Rbk EDGE jerseys. It's just something that's needed every couple of decades. Time to upgrade. But it's not up to us (the fans) or the owners. It's what the players are comfortable in and want to wear and a lot of them seem to be in favor of the new jerseys. So more power to them!

The NHL hired a public relations firm that sent letters to all teams last January to identify certain players on each team that would be receptive to the new uniforms and use them as spokesmen for the change.I saw the actual letter somewhere on the web last January. The league did not want any negative reactions getting out. That is why you see players like Crosby, Lidstrom and Ovechkin raving about the new unis. Likewise I have seen where some players do not like them at all.... Some of the Sharks like I think Kyle Mclaren and Jonathan Choo Choo have slammed them, as well as David Hale. Hockey players don't make too many waves, so it is hard to know how many actually like them besides the guys targeted by the league. I guess we will know more when the season begins. Personally it sickens me to see Bettman not only changing the game over the years, but now he has to mess with the look of the league which was so classy. Now they will be skating around looking like gay robots in tight shirts. The All-Star uni's were disgaceful!! What's next?? larger nets and goalies wearing different color jerseys like soccer. The NHL have already looked at both of these ideas.

I know we all like a good conspiracy theory but we're talking about a club that has over a thousand members and there's absolutely no way to please everybody all the time. But at least they're trying.

Honestly, screw the PR guys and screw anything they say and do. Reality is nothing more than a lie agreed upon. But that's their job and they need to be able to do it well.

I liked the old classic look as much as anybody, but for anything to be successful, it needs to be able to grow and change with time. Gary Bettman is obviously no genius (let's not fool ourselves), but what would scare me more is an ultra-traditionalist commissioner who refused to update the game and instead proceed to run it into the ground.

A lot of old hockey fans don't like change, but sometimes that is what's needed. And obviously the league needs to bring more people to hockey for it to survive into today's world. Frankly, I'd rather see hockey live on like this than die stuck in the Stone Ages if you know what I mean.

Once again, thanks for your comment and thanks for reading!
