This is a tough one.. really.. but in the end I have to go with the Pens. Why? I don't know.
Something about it is just a lot more classy.
How does the a cartoon penguin compare to a leaping Panther that looks like it's going to eat you?

The FLORIDA Panthers? Please! They weren't even Florida's first NHL team, so why are they called the Florida Panthers? Because no one wants to be associated with that cesspool that is Miami. I loved it when they came to Tampa and the scoreboard would read Tampa X Miami Y. And if you'll recall the Penguins submitted the beefed up mean skating in your face penguin as a possible new logo and were told by the league it was too violent. Then they suck up to Trashman Huizengua by letting him have this logo? This is much less violent than a penguin, so sayeth the NHL.
This was tough for me, too. Honestly, I think the Panther is a better design -- but I don't like it as much anyway. Something about the 'Thers logo is cheesy, even though it's well designed. Voted Pens.
My vote goes to the Florida Panthers. The Penguins logo is really cool too, unfortunately, they face one of the best logo in the league. I know the Panthers are not a powerful team and don't have a big history yet but the panther is too great and well designed.

This is the reason they're called the Florida Panthers, not Miami Panthers ... that, and they're in Ft. Lauderdale, 45 min. north of Miami.
This is a tought one. In terms of quality, the Panters logo is just awesome. The details and look is maybe one the best in the league.
But the Penguins is sooooo classic. The cutiest logo of the league.
By the way, it's not a tournament about witch team we love and witch team we hate. It's a logo tournament. If it was a team loving thing, the Ducks will lose right now because nobody love them. Oh wait...they will lose anyway!

Honestly, how can that ugly cartoon penguin compare to that awsome looking panther? I voted Panthers of course.
Sure, if we were to go by Chris' rules for judging logos, the Panthers would win hands down. A panther could certainly devour a penguin - although it would have trouble catching a penguin on ice. The Panther logo is a bit bolder and stronger looking. But, ultimately, the Penguin logo is just cooler looking.
Pens....not even close

classic it may be, the pen's logo is nothing more then a horrible cartoon with an awful pale gold colour. that being said, the over detailed panther's logo is even worse with it's mash-up of colours. depending how you look at it, the panther is either pouncing at you ready to strike...or slowing walking towards you zombie style with really skinny legs and a gigantic upper body. rather then picking with one was better, it came down to which one sucks less. pen's got my vote...barely.
The Pens logo is classic. I like the Panther logo but I agree that's it's too busy for logo. I voted Penguins.

To me, the Pens logo is a little more simplistic than the Panthers logo, and I prefer the simplicity.
Of course, doesn't hurt that the Pens are one of my favourite teams. :)

that panther doesn't look real to me.
just looking at the logos the panther looks cooler they both rep. the teams name well but the panthers by look is a lot cooler so they get my vote even tho i know the pens logo is a classic the panther is a better logo
This was the toughest one for me so far
In the end I chose the pens logos for two reasons
1. They brought that logo back to signify the start of a new franchise because that was the logo they had in 1991 and 92
2. The triangle behind the penguin represents three rivers: Allegheny, Ohio and Monogahalea and i think it's cool when the logo represents both the team and city.
The Panthers logo is gorgeous in terms of detail and looks, but in the end, It simply shows a panther... If there's ANYTHING else in the logo besides the panther (hidden or clearly visible) it would get my vote, but the fact that the pens have a penguin, playing hockey, and the aforementioned triangle (which i never knew and find quite cool now loll), My vote: Penguins
PANTHERS all the way, the Pens logo is really boring to me... It's been made famous by Crosby and there's no way it's going to lose against the Panthers' logo.
The Panthers have one of the most fierce and dynamic logos in all of sports. It's amazing how many colors they have in there and they really pull it off. LOVE IT!
what is with people saying the pens logo is to much like a cartoon. just look at the panthers logo, in the movie the lion king when scar jumps through flames to get to simba at the end of the movie when they are fighting, it is the exact pose and look of the panthers logo, and that is a cartoon, isn't it? and i hate scar he killed mufasa, so my vote goes to the pens, plus i love the penguins. the pens logo has not been made famous by crosby, its looked that way for years and is a classic. go pens!

the pens logo is the best in hockey and i think one of the best in sports. it is a classic that is a great logo
yeesh, this isn't even a contest.
the panthers logo is hideous. too many colors. poor perspective. the previous comment was right -- it doesn't look at all like it's "pouncing", as there is absolutely NO depth of field in the logo. it's a tiny-bodied cat with a huge upper body + head.
the pens logo is just plain excellent. the gloves have always bugged me, though.
