The Oilers logo has Oil in it.
I like Columbus, but their logo has absolutely nothing to do with anything.
The Columbus Starflags?
u people disgust me the blue jax might hav one of the best logos in the league and u're voting for a circle that says OILERS with a drop of oil
the CBJ represents their state with that flag and the fact that columbus is the capital of ohio with that star
This shouldn't even be a contest. The Blue Jackets logo pwns the Oilers. You have the Ohio state flag wrapped around a star in the form of a C for Columbus, and the star means it's the capital of Ohio, like Kyle has already said.
oilers logo LOOKS way better. sure the CBJ logo has lots going on but it is not as good a logo as the oilers'
The Oilers logo is fantastic, the whole thing just makes sense, and yes also has the team's own name contained within it.
It's classic
the fact that Columbus has a star for the capital and the state flag and all that is nice, but it means that A) There's nothing thematically cool about Columbus. it must be boring. and B) the people who decided on Columbus' identity didn't have the creativity to come up with something more interesting than stars and stripes. Oh wait, they did...a few years ago when the logo actually had something to do with the name.
Oilers win all the way.
The Columbus logo -- to use a phrase -- is full of sound a fury signifying nothing.
How does the logo not have anything to do with the Blue Jackets moniker?
"The name "Blue Jackets" was chosen to celebrate "patriotism, pride and the rich Civil War history in the state of Ohio and, city of Columbus.""
Seems to me like it does.
(The team is not named after a fictional bug. If you think that you're retarded and uninformed.)
I wasn't referring to the bug. i know that was more of a joke than the real concept. but if the point is to refer to the Civil War, they should probably include more than just the state flag in their main logo. that represents the state but not the war at all. an outsider should get the point right away.
I love the Blue Jackets logo (partially because they're my team, and it's a HUGE upgrade from the ribbon), but if anyone knows why there are only 12 stars on the flag, when the Ohio flag has 17 stars, I'd like to know. If it's an oversight, then I hate the logo.
oilers all the way.
even with all the significance behind columbus's logo, it doesn't really look that nice. sorry jackets fans.
Agreed as an "outsider" I had no clue what the Blue Jackets logo simbolised (and I knew where the phrase came from). 1) didn't know it was the state flag. 2) didn't even notice the flag made a C. To me the blue jackets logo was more saying hey we're from the USA than anything to do with the name. The Oilers logo while simple gets to the point and actually has something (other than the text) that obviously has something to do with the teams name. While I may agree with the jackets fan that the logo is an improvement, in this poll Oilers all the way.
What does the logo say about Columbus? Why the state flag? They aren't the Ohio Blue Jackets. The team was names because of the state's role in producing uniforms for the North during the Civil War. How is this logo in any way symbolic of that. Heck if they had a hockey player sitting at a sewing machine stitching a blue jacket that would have been miles ahead of this new logo.
The flag of Ohio looks like this:

Definitely not the same as the logo. Count the stars and see the proportions of the circles. Oilers wins, hands down
If the Blue jackets logo was on the shoulders of the washington capitals jersey, it would be a great patch. Way better than the eagle the have now.
But as main logo, it only says team USA to me.
OILERS
According to all of your combined logic, a logo has to come out and smack you in the face with what it represents.
No one confuses the Bruins logo for the Boston Wheels (except me when I was 5).
I love that when I wear my Blue Jackets hat in public, the only people who recognize it are people from Ohio, or other Jackets fans.
It may not come out and say "Blue Jackets" but it doesn't have to.
i voted for the oilers because every time i look at the blue jackets logo, all i can think of is "team usa" and that messes my brain up.
oilers just have the better logo. it has stood the test of time, plain and simple. i like how the letters drip, too. so simple, so great, much like the jets.
the oilers logo is a lot slicker than whatever the blue jackets came up with.
The oilers logo sucks! How can you think that logo looks good? They should go with that secondary logo, then I would have voted for them. And the blue jackets logo has alot of significance to Columbus. And it is obviously not the USA flag, but the Ohio flag.
Don't you Americans even know what your own flag looks like?
of course we know what it looks like. however, a logo is supposed to be something that immediately tells you about the team. you shouldn't have to take a second look at it to understand it or to try to figure out what it is. i can guarantee you that if you just flashed that logo to someone and asked them what they thought it was for, a lot of them would say something about USA.
If you see that as a representation of USA, then you're not familiar with the US flag.
If someone prefers the Oilers' logo over the Blue Jackets' logo for asthetic reasons, that's fine, but to say that the Oilers' logo somehow signifies the area or team any better than the Blue Jackets' is just plain silly. Show any non-NHL fan the Oilers logo and I seriously doubt they'll automatically think Edmonton, Alberta, or even Canada. Many of them would probably think of the old Houston Oilers before Edmonton.
While what you say IS true (I showed my Oilers credit card to a co-worker here in Orlando and they thought it was Houston), weither you know it or not the Oilers logo does signify the area where as Columbus's signifies the country.
If you were to take all 30 NHL logos and have names for people to match up teams with names, I gaurentee you there'll be people who would think the blue jackets could belong to the Dallas Stars. This would prove even more effective if you removed all words from logos for an extra challange.
It may be symbolic when you think about it and absorb it, but seriously isn't identifyable from a glance and that is one of the most important aspects when it comes to a logo, simple yet effective.
I dont understand how people vote for oilers, montreal, habs those logos are UGLY!!!!!!!!11 i cant understand how the CBJ are losing right now
