It's just a silly poll that, in the long run, will mean absolutely nothing to anybody. I guess I can't make anyone not take it seriously, but come on. This isn't a message board. This is a personal blog. Not only are you being rude to each other, but you're being horribly rude to me. And it's not right.

I offer the privilege to post comments assuming you can be civil about it. There's no call for vicious attacks on one another or myself. If someone says something you don't like, try to let it go or just don't visit my blog anymore. That's all I can offer. Please don't ruin it for everyone else. Thank you.

The Roman soldier represents the fighting spirit of both the team and its fans, that is why it was chosen. Does anyone remember the logo they were going to use back in 91? The one with ottawa senators spelled out with a tower and flag? The NHL wanted a better logo to put it mildly, and so, the current one is where it is today because of it. Also, it was a battle to get the NHL to return to ottawa for a while there, but the fans remained loyal, especially during the beginning of the franchise's growing pains. While I agree the Bruins have the best rbk edge jersey, hands down, mainly because of the horizontal stripes on both the arms and especially the bottom of the jersey, the Sens have the best logo. I mean, the Sens 'O' logo vs the Bruins 'B' logo, and you dont have much of a competition here. Both teams have updated with the times, but maybe it's time the B's update, put the spoked B on the shoulders and have a BEAR or BRUIN on the front crest. So GO SENS GO!

bruins because it simple and you no what it stands for

Actually, Gaius Julius Caesar himself was both a Senator and a Soldier - he and his armies wore the centurion garb and helmet. So it's not such an illogical choice for a logo.

Quick question, what does any of this praetorian guard, equstrien history lesson have to do with the city of Ottawa?

The roman empire fell long before there was an Ottawa, unless my history is really really bad, which I don't think it is. I get the political inference, but realisitically, I don't think there were too many knights of old residing in Ottawa, and ceaser as far as I know, never had the pleasure of visiting the North American continent.

The B's logo has significance to the city they play in.

kaoz, its intriguing to figure out why the Senators developed such a logo.

its why i voted and will continue to vote for the Bruins logo b/c of simplicity, tradition and meaning.

now we all know that the fierce ex-bruins jersey with teddy bear face on it was the best of them all....

either way the bruins get my vote

This tournament is about which logo looks better. Not which history of the logo is better. If you just look at both logos, the Senators logo is WAY better looking.

Aug 30 · 1:01 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJulie

I'm sorry, but I have to say it. I think that the Senators now have one of the best looking logos in hockey. Certainly more interesting than the Bruins logo, even though I don't like the Sens team too much...

Aug 30 · 3:13 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Aw maaaaaaaaaaaan. If they kept the profile logo for Ottawa it'd win hands down. As is, Boston edges out. These 3/4 view logos are a huge step down.

Aug 30 · 5:42 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Wow, why is the boston logo winning, people keep on saying simplicity and tradition and all of that stuff is what makes the logo better but at the same time you have people saying that tampa's logo is too simple and that a pre-schooler could have came up with that logo, well look at this logo, a B with a cirlce and some lines, im pretty sure i learned all of that in pre-school. The Sens should easily be winning, especially with their new logo, it actually has thought put into it. The logo actually looks fierce and has some emotion too it. If the Bruins win, this competition is pointless becuase people are just voting for the "tradition" of the logo. THATS NOT THE COMPETITION! its the best LOOKING logo.

We're losing to the Letter "B"?

You have to be shiting me....

How can we not take this competition?

The jerseys may be gay, but our new logo is pretty sick..

Aug 30 · 6:19 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

ayyy the bruins are beating the senators in something aaaaaaaahaha

go sens go

Aug 30 · 7:27 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Julie, the 3-D of the Senators looks like crap. Their 2-D view is a lot better than the one they've chosen. That's why I'm continuing to chose the Bruins

Aug 31 · 5:22 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWar&Defense

The day the letter B beats out the Senators logo is the day everyone finally realizes that about 60% of the people voting aren't paying any attention at all to the actual competition, and are just voting for their favourite team. No one can think that the "meaning" behind the B puts it over, because it has no damn meaning. It's a letter! So stop making excuses about how the senator should rotate to a profile instead of seeing most of his face and vote for the Sens, who genuinely have the better logo of the two teams.

ever since i first saw the new senators logo, i thought it looked kind of familiar. yesterday i figured out who it was. it's seann william scott! ottawa loses points for that. the fact that boston's logo depicts not only a hub but also the layout of the city's streets has always made it kick ass in my mind. that, my friends, is why you're losing to the letter b.

Aug 31 · 7:29 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Don't bother trying to explain the Bruins logo to these people, they aren't listening... they are too wrapped up in which teams logo looks better, they don't care which one portays the city/teams history the best.

Which as every inteligent person knows is one of the main functions of a logo.

Aug 31 · 7:40 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenter-Gabe

I like the Sens new fiercer logo and the team colours but I've just gotta go with the slightly updated classic spoked B. If any of you have time, do some justice for another great classic logo and vote in the Oilers/Hawks poll. It's way closer than it should be.

Aug 31 · 9:13 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I cannot understand even remotely why the Bruins' logo is so popular. It reminds me of a wheel with spokes. Every time I look at it I wonder, does it stand for "boring", "brutal" "bad" or "bumble bee".

Aug 31 · 9:54 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

why does everyone love 'classic' logos? i dont see how theyre 'classic'... seriously, so yeah, they have history, but thats cos theyre from older teams. a 15 year old team is not gonna have as much history as a 50+ year old one... duh. but thats my opinion

oh and i agree with the guy umm, 10 or so above this. ITS SIMPLY WHICH LOGO looks BETTER... not tradition

Aug 31 · 10:47 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJo

The Bruins' logo is not a great one. Just because it's an original six has nothing to do with it's aesthetic qualities. The colors are probably the least appealing color combinations in the entire league. Black and yellow???? ouch. Why do fans of original six teams feel a sense of entitlement and superiority? I don't understand the need to trivialize the importance of newer teams.

Aug 31 · 10:56 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'm kind of surprised that the voting is this close. That Senators logo isn't even the best Senators logo, never mind one of the better league logos.

I think that maybe the Bruins have tweaked their logo a bit too much over the past decade, but it's still better than Roman gladiator Ottawa is trying to pass off as a 'Senator'.

Aug 31 · 11:05 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

if you think that the Bruins logo is "B"oring "B"rutal or less superior to your Roman "Senator" then you are vastly mistaken. Even with the redesign of the Sens logo, the updated Bruins logo is far superior in structure to that blank stare on the Roman's face. Putting tradition and history aside, your team's logo gives off the appeal of being really cartoony whereas the Bruins is a lot more balanced and dynamic. As a bonus, do you want to compare shoulder patches? How bout that big fat ZERO! Yes, I know its in reference to the 1900 Senators, but your team was formed in 1991/92, so where's the correlation in that?

Aug 31 · 12:13 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWar&Defense

The Roman guy looks too much like comic book art, I liked the sihouette view more than this 3/4 view. It looks better than the older 3/4 view logo they had as an alternate the last few years, but that isn't saying alot.

I'm still torn on the reasoning, I understand the reasons for why Roman Centurions represent Senators... but I don't understand how it represents Ottawa or how it identifies with Ottawa... maybe it doesn't, but to me that is a strike against it, not a majot strike, but a strike none-the-less. They primary function of a logo is to identify with a team, not to look pretty.

The Bruins have the better logo, it is simple, it makes sence, it has history (granted it's history might be a little outdated), but there is nothing about it that makes it feel out of place.

A Roman in Canada is out of place.

If you took someone who knew nothing about hockey or hockey teams and had them try to match up logos to team names, I believe they would be more likely to place the "B" with the Bruins than a Roman Centurion with the Senators.

Aug 31 · 2:20 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenter-Gabe

everybody is voting for the team they like the most. Please vote for the logo not the team. There is nothing nice with a B spoked wheel..I am a bruins fan and i'm letting everyone know that the senators have a better logo than us...vote for the logo not the team you like. SENATORS has a better logo.

Aug 31 · 5:02 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMaty

Hey Maty,

That's your opinion and you are welcome to it. That does not mean that someone is wrong for not agreeing with you. Besides a logo is more than just a picture it also has to stand for something. It is a part of branding. The Spoked B is better branding as it is more synonomous with the Bruins.
