It's just a silly poll that, in the long run, will mean absolutely nothing to anybody. I guess I can't make anyone not take it seriously, but come on. This isn't a message board. This is a personal blog. Not only are you being rude to each other, but you're being horribly rude to me. And it's not right.

I offer the privilege to post comments assuming you can be civil about it. There's no call for vicious attacks on one another or myself. If someone says something you don't like, try to let it go or just don't visit my blog anymore. That's all I can offer. Please don't ruin it for everyone else. Thank you.

I'm going with the Sens here. In the last round some had to explain the Bruins logo to me. If a logo has to be explained, there is something wrong with it

Aug 30 · 4:18 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Ok 2 things. To the last guy....what is there to explain about the Bruins logo? Not ALL logo's have some deep Poetic meaning. It's just a friggin "B".It probably stands for Boston. It could be Bruins though, thats the beauty though.Old logo's are simple.

This may just be my ignorance, but what the hell does a ROMAN SOLDIER have to do with SENATORS? Is this how you do it in Canada? If so my deepest apologies. Shouldnt the guy have a suit on? Unless there is some kind of hidden meaning I'm missing, then Ottawa has the most ludicrious logo in ALL OF SPORTS HISTORY.

*READ ALL OF IT*

sens logo rocks. Any idiot could have thought of putting a B as a logo. The sens logo is much sharper and unique. (I spell bad if it's not spelled right.) It would be so ugly to put on just SENATORS! If you really don't like it then you should go on photoshop and show me a better one that makes sense. Plus it is not about what logo goes with the team better it is about what logo looks nicer. I personaly think the sens logo is nicer than the bruins!

To the second post, the idea of a Republic, and the use of Senators was developed by the Roman Empire.

Aug 30 · 6:02 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I know that the because they're one of the sacred original eight, the Bruins logo is considered a classic and somehow the greatest thing since sliced bread but, it is really kind of dull.

Yes, old logos are simple and nine times out of ten, it's in the simplicity that makes the logo beautiful. Still, I think the Senators logo is bold, crisp, and effective. New doesn't mean bad. The Sens get my vote.

Aug 30 · 6:11 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMike

Well the Providence Bruins logo is a P, so I'll let you figure out what the B stands for. And no, they aren't the Providence Pruins. Simple really, and you can't beat history.

It is very sharp, and the changes made are subtle, yet classy. By far the best new uniforms out there. I'm biased, Bruins all the way.

Oh no the Senators are coming, hope we don't have a reform! That must inspire fear (or hilarity, I can't decide) in the opposition.

The leaves are a symbol of victory. They mentioned that about a thousand times @ the jersey unveiling.

Plus he looks pretty pissed off. You have to vote Sens on this one.

Boston logo is classic. It's one of those oldtimey logos that shouldn't be messed with.
That said, I thought Ottawa's early 90s logo was better their new one. and maybe better than Bostons. As it is Boston is better. (esp. now) Along with there new unis. Best in the league.

by the way Mike it's the original six. Montreal, Chicago, New York (Rangers), Toronto, and Detroit

Aug 30 · 6:50 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Yeah, my bad, the original six. I know that and still screwed it up. Thanks for the correction.

Aug 30 · 6:56 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterMike

I'm lovin' that new revamped Sens logo... if I wasn't so committed to buying a new Canucks jersey, I would probably go out and get a Sens one.

Aug 30 · 7:03 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenteropiatedsherpa

So let me get this straight: the logic behind the Sens logo is that the first senators were Roman, and the soldier in the logo is Roman. He's still a Roman Soldier, not a Senator.

That would be like the Detroit Tigers using a lion as their logo, since a lion is a cat and a tiger is also a cat.

Or since the Roman Empire started in Italy, and in Italy they have delicious pasta, so the Senators logo can be a bowl of spaghetti?

The Bruins logo is everything a logo should be: simple, NOT CARTOONY, memorable, effective.

Aug 30 · 7:15 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterk.d.

actually the Senator is a Roman Centurion, which is completely different than a Senator itself!

The Bruins logo is simplistic, didn't you ever hear that Boston is the hub of hockey? That's why it has all the spokes around the B. Quite classic I say.

Bruins, 'nuff said....

Aug 30 · 7:19 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWar&Defense

Simplistic is a good way of putting it. Boring is another.

Aug 30 · 7:25 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

"Boston is the hub of hockey"

and before that...

"Boston is the hub of the universe" - OWH

Aug 30 · 7:28 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenter-Gabe

Being from NY, I wouldn't consider Boston the hub of the universe.

Aug 30 · 7:53 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWar&Defense

There was a time when it was.

The writer Olliver Wendell Holmes is responsible for the original quote which referred to Boston as the Hub of the Universe, since then Boston has been referred to as the hub of many things, but that is where it comes from.

Aug 30 · 8:24 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenter-Gabe

actually is not a roman centurion but a praetorian guard... Under the republic, they were the bodyguards of the "senators" but under the empire, they were acting like "senators" in choosen which roman was the best to become emperor and lead Rome.

anyway, K.D. can you explain the symbolism of putting a bol of pasta on a jersey?

a logo is not just about looking classy, it's a symbol and it shows your valours

Aug 30 · 9:02 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

thats right, sorry for the mix-up. should've known from the days of playing Civilization III.

Aug 30 · 9:26 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWar&Defense

Both logos have great symbolism but I have to go with Boston...it's a great update to an iconic look...and after looking at it on the whole jersey...It defeats another good Senators logo.

Aug 30 · 9:38 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterCharlie

Well this is a poll on which logo is better, and Ottawa I think is much better.

Aug 30 · 9:57 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterLunt_23

Two beauties! Sens much improved,
Bruins-nice touches. ANd both look great in their new duds.
As a leaf fan, think what I have to look at. Bruins have one of the best overall uni's.
But as a stand-alone logo, (and it makes me barf to say this!)
I'm going Sens

Aug 30 · 10:05 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenterenzo avolio

Who's to say what makes a logo better? This is all personal opinion. For everyone trying to discredit other peroples opinions by saying that the history behind the logos doesn't matter it's only what the logo looks like... piss off. History is important, symbolism is important, colors are important, how it looks on the sweater is important... how it looks on the ice is important. Everything is important.

Aug 30 · 10:19 AM PDT | Unregistered Commenter-Gabe

I agree gabe and in the end of this poll, we'll know which logo is better than the other but more importantly, which logo is the best of the NHL for 2007.

Aug 30 · 10:34 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWar&Defense

Until 123 BC, all senators were also equestrians, frequently called "knights" in English works.

Equestrians could rise to the rank of senator.

So it seems these Equestrians evolved socially out of the Roman Cavalry. They began taking positions of power in Roman business and commercial enterprises. Until a certain point Senators also had claim of this title. After they were no longer allowed to be involved in business and thus stripped of right to the title Equestrian, the Equestrian class began to be able to attain office in the Senate.

The Roman Cavalry and the Equestrian are depicted wearing uniforms like the one depicted in the Ottawa Senators logo.

anon or Slippy, i'll just deal with Wikipedia as a source for the Ottawa Senators logo. It could be a Centurion, a Praetorian or whatever with a big bushy thing on top of the helmet.
