i believe you spelled Whalers wrong...?

Jan 29 · 5:43 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMichaela

come on! I like pucky!

I think Pucky is OK, but I think the 'Canes logo is better. Honestly, neither of these should be in the tournament IMO.

pucky is one of the worst logos i can think of.
where other logos try to look tough, we have cute, cuddly pucky.
where other logos try to convey the team name (everyone except the sabres), pucky conveys "the whales" instead of "the whalers"

seriously, why would you make a soft logo of what your team name tries to kill? was this an appeal to PETA?

then there's the hurricanes logo. sure you can come up with comparisons (a toilet bowl comes to mind), but it shows the team name, and it shows the sport (there IS a puck in the middle), and so i give it props. i don't think it should even be in this tournament, but if it wasn't included, some people would cry foul.

Pucky ought to go really far in this tourney, it'd take a really bad logo to beat it

Any logo that conjure thoughts of a puck getting flushed down a toilet should not be in the NHL.

i just can't vote for pucky the whaleres!!!

besides, that is one ugly looking alien hurricane!

Jan 29 · 8:01 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterZ3R0SYST3MX

How can anybody vote against cute, cuddly, little pucky?

Jan 29 · 9:26 PM PST | Unregistered Commentercanucklehead

@hockey week: good point about making a cute logo of what one's team's trying to kill...

Fixed. That's what I get for being in a hurry.

The Whalers used to have a jumbotron graphic of Pucky with a generic "ers" after it.

Really crappy, but sort of cool in a nostalgic kind of way.

Jan 30 · 2:54 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterctyankeeboy1638

I think that it is only appropriate that the Whalers have both the best all-time logo and the worst all-time logo in the NHL. Go Pucky, and stuff.

Aw, Pucky!

The hurricane is just a mess, so I voted against it.

Jan 30 · 8:30 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterEmo

So what happened to the Wednesday poll?

Jan 31 · 4:47 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterSwampy1701

The hurricanes primary looks great, especially for a late 90's logo

Jan 31 · 10:53 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMorgan

pucky isn't that bad for a secondary logo.

the hurricanes on the other hand does look like a toilet bowl swirl.

'showing the sport' by having a puck or stick in logo may be ok for a retro logo or for the minor leagues, but most nhl logos shouldn't need to have hockey equipment in them to identify the sport; they should be good enough that in time the logo becomes instantly identified with the team and sport to anyone that really give a crap about hockey.

Jan 31 · 11:56 AM PST | Unregistered Commentergreyraven8

"they should be good enough that in time the logo becomes instantly identified with the team"

It refers to our geographical location.. North Carolina gets plenty of hurricanes. The puck is just for an added effect, you know?

i just love how i read Chris say many times how he doesn't like wordmarks in logos and his distaste for logos that use hockey references such as equipment, sticks or pucks, now EVERYDAY i see people leaving comments about how much they hate it too (wordmarks and equipment). Are they waiting for Chris to reply and say "right on man, me too?" or are they just kissing buns?

Really, though. It's not like other people could dislike the same things I dislike on their own. Nor could it be that people who happen agree with statements made on the blog would be more active in commenting. Preposterous!

Now to all who sit here in blind agreement with me, you shall heretofore be known as my minions. And as such, I say to you all, right on man, me too!

No I'm just teasing, bladez. But it's hard to resist a reply when I'm mentioned directly. Thanks for your comments!

well, the Penguins logo is awesome even though it has a stick, gloves and skates! =P

Feb 1 · 7:05 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterblazinbladez67

Sorry if i wasn't clear earlier.

What i meant to say is a good NHL logo usually doesn't have or need hockey equipment in it (red wings for example ,and no I'm not a fan of the wings).

When you see the winged wheel anywhere (not just on a jersey) people who aren't even big hockey fans see it, recognize it as a good looking, very well thought out and designed logo. They also know what team it represents an what league that team is in.

I admit it would be hard to make a good logo to represent a hurricane, but maybe they should have considered this when originally naming the team.
