Blackhawks vs Blue Jackets

vs
BLACKHAWKS
BLUE JACKETS
2-10
9-1

The Aesthetics
I should start out by saying that despite how many people apparently think the Blackhawks have the best logo in sports, I don't see it. And I don't really like it. I think improvements could be made. I'd also question what makes it the best. On the other hand, the Blue Jackets logo is pretty killer. We should count how many NHL logos have the letter "C" in them.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
The Blue Jackets in the Union Army would have surely been able to take Chief Blackhawk and his band. Maybe they did.
Blue Jackets

The Analysis
Try not to jump up and down on my head, but i just think that the Blue Jackets logo makes a better symbol for its team. Let the harrassment begin. At least the Blue Jackets logo has a defined color scheme. There's way to much going on in the Blackhawks logo. Let's tone down the colors a little. That's all I'm saying. And the Jackets logo has an Ohio flag that forms a "C" for Columbus.

Blue Jackets vs Red Wings

vs
BLUE JACKETS
RED WINGS
8-1
4-7

The Aesthetics
The Red Wings logo is very flat. There is one color and its traditional as with any Original Six team. I think it's okay but also that there's still room for improvement. But I'll leave it there. As for the Blue Jackets logos, it's a huge improvement over the previous logo (anybody remember the electric green bee?). At the very least, it makes better use of color than the Wings logo does.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
A Blue Jacket may carry a bayonet, but chances of him shooting a bird with Red Wings are slim.
Red Wings

The Analysis
Both teams have colors in their names and yes, those colors are prominent in each logo. In fact, red is the only color in the Red Wings logo. The Blue Jackets logo prominently features the Ohio flag wrapped around a silver star in the form of a "C" as has been mentioned. A reader also pointed out that the star signifies Columbus as the capital city. And, yes, it's that cool.

Wild vs Blue Jackets

vs
WILD
BLUE JACKETS
11-1
7-1

The Aesthetics
These are the league's two youngest teams, part of the most recent expansion. As far as aesthetics, this is one of the most difficult matches to judge. This incarnation of the Blue Jackets is simply the best ever devised. At the same time The Wild logo is pretty awesome. Some may not necessarily agree, but they really have to want it to see it. I don't know who to choose. I'm tempted to flip a coin. But since I can't do that, I'm going with the Blue Jackets for reasons unknown.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
A Blue Jacket should know his way around the Wild, but if he were to face a bear, I don't know that he could necessarily hold his own.
Wild

The Analysis
A clever forest scene of Minnesota versus an Ohio flag wrapped around a silver star. How do you decide? Somebody really knew what they were doing when they designed these. However, while the Wild logo could befit any forest-laden locale, the Blue Jackets logo is very specific to Ohio. My love for the Wild logo will have to be overtaken. I'm sorry to say.

Predators vs Blue Jackets

vs
PREDATORS
BLUE JACKETS
7-3
6-1

The Aesthetics
The top two logos in the Central Division are going head-to-head this afternoon. Both logos are rather detailed and have great colors, albeit the Predators' colors are aren't as common. For originality, this point goes the way of the Preds.
Predators

The Nickname
The Blue Jackets would be armed with bayonets so no Predator would have a chance unless it was impervious bullets and knives.
Blue Jackets

The Analysis
With the Ohio flag strewn across a silver star, there's no way the Blue Jackets logo can lose this point. I like the Predators logo and the reason behind it, but just looking at it, you wouldn't necessarily know the team was from Nashville. In fact, they could be from Hamilton and we wouldn't know the difference. All right, that's enough digs from me.

Avalanche vs Blue Jackets

vs
AVALANCHE
BLUE JACKETS
8-0
5-1

The Aesthetics
I hate it when I have to pit two really great logos against each other. And this is just such a case. They're a little similar in color and overall shape, actually — the curves, the points. As far as colors, the Blue Jackets red, white, blue and silver are somewhat overused in this league. I feel like it's appropriate here though because the team name comes from American history and the colors come from the Ohio flag. And I never liked the electric green. Believe it or not, this is a Blue Jackets point.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
Being a Union soldier, a Blue Jacket probably wouldn't be trained to survive an Avalanche.
Avalanche

The Analysis
I'm going to forego the babbling here. The Blue Jackets win this point for the Ohio flag being draped around the star. The Avalanche logo doesn't really managed to reference Denver or Colorado in any way.

Blue Jackets vs Blues

vs
BLUE JACKETS
BLUES
4-1
4-4

The Aesthetics
Sometimes you can feel action in a still logo and I feel it in the Blue Jackets logo — in a good way. It's a very smart logo with appropriate attention to detail. I like the two-tone blue in the Blues logo but its not quite enough to steal this point away.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
A Blue Jacket carries a bayonet. A Blues man carries a sax. Do the math.
Blue Jackets

The Analysis
The Blue Jackets name leaves little room to screw up the logo, although you wouldn't know it based on previous logos. This one just makes sense. The Ohio flag more than references the home state of the team while the Blues logo is really little more than a musical note with a wing. I don't really get the wing, but that's not why they're getting swept. The new Blue Jackets logo is just that good.

Blue Jackets vs Ducks

vs
BLUE JACKETS
DUCKS
3-1
0-5

The Aesthetics
Is there really a question here? Because it seems rather obvious to me.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
Bayonet versus beak. While at war the Blue Jacket would perhaps need to go hunt for food. A Duck would make an easy meal.
Blue Jackets

The Analysis
I keep wishing the Ducks announce a change to their logo during this tournament. Just simply going to the webbed "D" would would for me. Until then, though, they'll likely continue to take a beating in this competition. Love the colors, hate the wordmark. The Blue Jackets logo, on the other hand, couldn't be more appropriate.

Blue Jackets vs Canucks

vs
BLUE JACKETS
CANUCKS
2-1
2-1

The Aesthetics
The Canucks have a unique color scheme and that gives them a leg up. Red, white and blue tends to be overused. I was never a fan of the electric green in the old Blue Jackets logo and I know these colors fit well, but still. Purely on looks, which logo would I rather be wearing?
Canucks

The Nickname
Blue Jackets carry bayonets and Canucks are, what, woodsman? So axes, then. Jackets win in a "war."
Blue Jackets

The Analysis
This is what you call a resounding point win. Look at these two logos and what they're meant to represent. A silver star draped in the Ohio flag for a team from Columbus named for the Union soldiers could be a more fitting logo. What's a Canuck? Well it sure isn't an orca whale or a Native American tribe.

Blue Jackets vs Sharks

vs
BLUE JACKETS
SHARKS
1-1
3-1

The Aesthetics
We've got a couple strong Western Conference logos here. Both pay attention to detail and have great colors but the Blue Jackets logo makes better use of it. Both logos have many pointy edges but ultimately I think it's the use of color that will make the difference for this point.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
I'm not sure why a Blue Jacket and a Shark would ever have to confront the other but sharks eat people when provoked.
Sharks

The Analysis
As far as name symbolism, both logos are very appropriate. Despite there being no blue jackets in the logo, I think we all get it. The Ohio flag is a very nice touch in location recognition. I'm so glad the CBJ with the electric green went away. Whose idea was that anyway? This point may have gone to the Sharks except for the fact that I see no real connection to San Jose in it. That and the fact that there's a hockey stick in it and we certainly don't need that.

Blue Jackets Jerseys Unveiled!

And here it is. No real shock. It's what we expected. Just wanted to post it in photographic form. The draft is going on now. We'll get to see some more new uniforms I'm betting.

UPDATE (7/21 6:43 AM): I just realized I had some better images of the new Blue Jackets uniforms which were unveiled in Columbus on draft day. Thought I'd post them in case you hadn't seen them yet.

They look sharp and this new logo is far better than what they have been wearing. Incidentally, as a funny side note, I recently read on a message board somewhere someone calling the shoulder logo a "rebel hat." Clearly this person is out of touch with American history since those of us who aren't know that the "blue jackets" were the Union soldiers. I got a chuckle out of it.

You can't really see it well in the photos, so for a better look at the logo I'm referring to, check it.
