Leafs Confirm Third?

This is a followup to a story I posted on Wednesday about a jersey that turned up on the Maple Leafs' official web site recently.

According to a reader who emailed me, that is going to be the Leafs' new third jersey this season. The following is the email sequence that was forwarded to me:

Whats the deal with this? thats not the Leafs jersey! Is it being altered to fix what was broken last year? Please tell me it's true!!!

Thank you for your email,
The jersey in the link you have provided is the new Maple Leafs third jersey.
Thanks for being a fan!

Names have been removed for privacy reasons. I have no other corroboration this information so take it for what it is — I'm sounding like a broken record, I know. But I don't want to pass stuff off as factual before I know it to be so.

The thing is, the majority of rumors swirling suggest a vintage white sweater as next season's alternate. That could just be excited fans promulgating wishful thinking... or not. But if the above does turn out to be true, we saw the Toronto Maple Leafs' third jersey 11 months ago. Here's another look at it.

If anymore support for this surfaces, I'll let you guys know.

what the heck.. how can the third jersey just be the same thing with a few stripes?? ..this had better not be true

This is what the Leafs home jersey should look like, the sooner the better replacing the hideous "practice jerseys" from last year.

poro obviously doesn't "get it" when it comes to jerseys.

those hemline stripes are enough of a difference to go from a terrible jersey to a great one.

there's 3 equal sized stripes on the sleeves instead of 2, making a completely new leafs design. but you really wouldn't think of this since it looks so vintage and yet it isn't. the laceup collar is a marked improvement too.

i hate the leafs and RBK and i think this is a gorgeous jersey.

I just want to know how it got here 11 months ago, how it was so easily leaked on the leafs website, how open the leafs are about that information, and when any of this will become official

That's not the Leafs' jersey.

How did the leafs third jersey originate from a fans rendition of the leafs jersey from the bruins..

Seems odd that it appeared on there site as you can see that it's a photoshopped jersey

You can tell it's quite darker, you know. Good in my mind.

As a leafs fan, I want them both. I would kill for that design to be the primary jersey, with the vintage-white(my favourite leafs jersey) being the third.
Come on Toronto, if we're going to lose next year, lets at least look good doing it...

I still think that the third jersey next year will be the vintage that they have used for the past 10 years or so. A version of the blue 1967 jersey would be my personal choice though.

i also emailed them and they said i was right and they would change it shortly. also known as the guy who claimed they got this email is a liar.

As of last summer, no teams were allowed to switch primaries until next season (2009/10).

I got really excited when I saw this jersey last year. If this is the new Leaf jersey, I'll be getting Mark Bell, Jason Blake, and Vesa Toskala.
