Bruins Confirm Alternates
It seems like over this past week the news leaking about next season's third jerseys just will not stop. And I don't see anyone here complaining about that. As far as news tonight, we've got newspaper journalists confirming alternates for the Bruins and Hurricanes.
Fluto Shinzawa of The Boston Globe wrote in the Bruins Blog last week that the Bruins will in fact have a third jersey for the new season — something we've all kind of known for quite some time now. Shinzawa also wrote, "The final design has not been released, but it will most likely feature the retro bear, on the shoulders of the current uniforms, on the chest."
Below you can see a sample of the new sweater in action. During a game last season, NESN broadcast video of a player skating around in it — it's not actually Patrice Bergeron.
The full video was originally posted on YouTube but has since been removed — whether by the person who uploaded it or by YouTube, I don't know.
And this is just a followup to yesterday's post. News & Observer writer Luke DeCock said in his blog there was "a good chance" the Hurricanes would have a new alternate sweater this season. A similar story was published in today's paper. You can read an excerpt from the article below.
The Hurricanes will unveil a third, alternate jersey this season and hope to have it ready to reveal at the Caniac Carnival on Sept. 21, Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said.
Rutherford declined to comment on the design, but team officials have talked for years about a black jersey with the team's secondary, waving-flag logo on the chest.
The team planned to unveil the new design last season, but the debut was pushed back a year because of the introduction of the NHL's new "uniform system" from Reebok.
The Hurricanes are one of three NHL teams not to use a third jersey at some point, with the Red Wings and New Jersey Devils the others.

These should be there primary not alternate
also i will probably say this for all the new jerseys that will be released
i love it when teams put their primary on the shoulder. maybe the blues will do it.
As long as they don't bring back that horrible bear logo, the one that went up against the Mighty Ducks' alternate in the "Worst Alternate Logo" competition, they can wear whatever they want.

What is the Blues' alternate logo? Is it still the trumpet?
I agree that this should be the primary over the spoked wheel. With over half of the teams rumored to have alternates, I hope the news doesn't die down anytime soon.
Now if only the Caps would be in line to get an alternate...that eagle deserves to be on their players chests.
I'm sure part of the reason why the Capitals didn't put the eagle on the front of the jersey was, aside from trying to represent their history from the '70s to early-'90s, because the immediate predecessor was an eagle. To change from an eagle to another eagle seems to be a lateral move to me (and apparently to them), and I myself conflicted as to which version I prefer.
Either way, a team from Washington, D.C., the nation's capital, needs to have an eagle on it. The eagle is this country's symbol, representing the nation's strength, so it's perfect.
I don't understand why some people think Boston should permanently turn their their primary logo into a mere secondary logo or shoulder patch
Logos, in the end, are **brands**. And Boston's "spoked wheel" is one of the most identifiable (and popular) American NHL logos. It's one thing to play around with the brand when on an alternate sweater, but another to mess with it on the regular ones. The same can be said about Philly's logo. I hardly think most people believe the Flyers' logo is a work of art, but at this point, the team mgmt would be idiots to mess with it - that would be 40+ years of branding to contend with.
As for Washington, I'm still a little confused why they returned to the wordmark of the 70s and 80s. I may have been the only person to have liked their late 90s sweaters, but like Ksy9003 noted, an eagle is a highly appropriate logo for the team (and in whatever incarnation it might be, looks a lot better than the Bullets/Wizards NBA logo travesties we all know).
I like the one they're going to use, but part of me also thinks this is a missed opportunity to see what a Bruins jersey would look like done-up in the "Edge style". It wouldn't be popular, but it would be more visually interesting IMO.
The best alternate ever. Simple, but brilliant.
What is the Blues' alternate logo? Is it still the trumpet?
no not really. it's just it said the logo on the new jersey is gonna include the arch so it'll be different just just the bluenote. i think it'd be cool to see the bluenote on the shoulder
i like it...they should bring back the bear logo from their old alternate jerseys...that logo was sweet
Like the alt logo on front, but I think they should go gold with black shoulders, same layout as the home and away jerseys otherwise, like the gold jerseys from the 1960's. That would look sharp with the "BOSTON" version of the alternate bear on front.
Should go back to gold shoulders on the white road jerseys too, IMHO. But still, very good-looking unis all-around.

That's a really nice jersey. Then again, I loved the Bear Jersey..
Cool blog you have here, can't believe I've missed it since I do tons of "alternate logos" myself.
