Stars Unveil Third Jersey!

Today the Dallas Stars officially unveiled their new alternate sweater for the 2008-09 season. As rumored, it's essentially a white version of their current black jersey.

It features DALLAS in text across the chest in green with the sweater number beneath it on the front. You can read more on the Stars' web site. But first thing's first. Here's a picture.

It pains me to think Brad Richards will have to wear that. So disappointed we let him go.

Anyway, here's how the Stars describe their new threads.

The new third jersey is the same basic design as their current dark sweater, but white. This look was introduced last season as a new design for the Dallas Stars — a word-mark as the primary emblem on the front of the jersey, as the team’s home of “DALLAS” is cleanly presented across the chest accompanied by the respective player’s uniform number centered underneath. The traditional Dallas Stars logo is featured on each shoulder.

According to their web site, the Stars will wear this sweater for the next four straight games. They also released a complete schedule for the rest of the season.

I'll add more pictures as they become available.

I was disapointed to see the canes third jersey. They should have stuck with there normal threads but change the colour from red, black and white to blue, green and white so that they could honor there past.

this is the second worst third jersey after Atlanta.

Nov 18 · 11:52 AM PST | Registered CommenterBSmalls

I'm a Stars fan and this is awful. Its better than the old 3rd jersey but not only is this ugly but its completely unoriginal. I love the black version of this jersey, but the white one doesnt cut it. They should have brought back the old star template they used on the jerseys before reebok came in and ruined them

Nov 18 · 12:04 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterFoley

eh i knew this was going to be eh

Nov 18 · 12:08 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMighty Flyers 09

You can describe that with one word: "Blah"

Nov 18 · 12:08 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterdaFlyersman

Nothing special here. Though I'm pleasantly surprised they kept (even a little bit of) the green; I was concerned they were phasing it out. It's plain, which isn't a bad thing, but it would look better, for instance, if the white area between the sleeve stripes was solid green.

Nov 18 · 12:14 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

At least they're original unlike the traditionalist thirds.

Nov 18 · 12:14 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKoho

I actually like the Dallas jerseys. I know they are different but at least they are consistent. At first I thought they were boring but seeing them on the ice with the full uniform system (pants, socks, etc) they look nice.

Nov 18 · 12:18 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDandy

that's one ugly jersey, along with Atlanta

Nov 18 · 12:19 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterCorey

i really think front numbers are a conspiracy to force people to pay extra for customizing. with football jerseys, playerless jerseys do not exist, people simply pay the customizing fees without questioning.

in hockey, a jersey without a player name and number on it still looks good. at a quick glance, you don't even notice from a front view unless you're looking for that. people, myself included, are fine going without the $70 customizing. not to mention, the jersey is only out of date when the team changes looks, instead of being based on the player, causing some people to re-buy.

buffalo, tampa bay, and san jose have jerseys where you instantly notice they aren't customized, but the jersey still looks good. atlanta and dallas require customization or they look terrible. i guarantee that the percentage of jerseys customized for those two teams will show just how much cash the nhl can grab, and will begin an even larger trend.

i hope not, but there's my conspiracy theory of the day.

Nov 18 · 12:23 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterHockeyWeek

I think those are pretty disappointing... for the casual fan that doesn't follow the stars that closely I don't think they will notice the difference at all.

Nov 18 · 12:24 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMother Pucker Hockey

Chris do you think that they will use this as their away jersey next season?

Nov 18 · 12:28 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJohnnyD19

the stars really outdid themselves with this one.

finally we see why Dallas's away uniforms looked like a last minute descision with the logo slapped on the front.

it's about time the true away jersey has come.

Bravo, Stars.

Nov 18 · 12:29 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterstarsXwings

Boooooring. Looks like a baggy long underwear top with a few stripes and some text. Would that ever be considered a classic? Are they ashamed of their logo? Do they think we might not know they are from Dallas unless it's written on their chest? Stupid. I hope to god the Flyers never use text instead of their classic logo on their jersey.

Nov 18 · 12:34 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterjohnny griswold

and here we see what baseball jerseys would look like if they had long sleeves...

Nov 18 · 12:35 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterOgre39666

How long before this becomes their permanent road jersey?

Nov 18 · 12:37 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrechtel

Weak, pathetic and lazy. So, all they do is invert there home jersey? Wow. I bet they spent all of two minutes on this one. And it shows.

Nov 18 · 12:40 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBuck

I feel that the stars should have gotten a green third jersey.

Nov 18 · 12:43 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterStefan T

"At least they're original"

Ah hahahahahahahahahahahaha...

Nov 18 · 12:55 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMatt

can you say...EPIC FAIL?

This looks to me like a future away jersey. If it paves the way for a green one, I'll support it. Do you think it's sad that the team is moving so far away from any connection to the old North Stars? The Star logo is perfect. It's a simple, yet elegant logo. it makes sense b/c it is the lone star state, and it hearkens back to the Minnesota days. To go completely TEXT and not have anything with a logo would be sad. Watch they end up with a green jersey that has Stars written in white. Ugh.

also...if you're going to use 'Dallas' and go NFL on us, how about at least being creative and having 2 smaller star logos on either side or a Star instead of the number. Come on, guys. Best of both worlds !

Nov 18 · 1:03 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterhowsmikesdriving

Yuck. What else can I say? These uniforms make me root against the stars. It saddens me that a team with such great uniforms in the past, from the North Stars green to the Star desgin would sink to wearing this .... well, crap.

Nov 18 · 1:18 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJeff P (cptjeff)

so is this the end of the third jersey news? F'n eh!!!!

Nov 18 · 1:37 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterroccot

More like the Dallas Mavericks third jerseys.

Had the Stars just put their classic logo on the front and put the Texas logo on the shoulders, this would have been a nice update to the jerseys they wore when the team moved from Minnesota.

Nov 18 · 1:42 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMoosehabs

Lamest
Jersey
Ever

They don't even provide an identity. "And here are your 2008 Dallas... grouping of... individually numbered athletes???"

Number on front doesn't work, this trend must end. Give us a big green and gold Star you b*stards.

Nov 18 · 1:44 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterzman

these are so boring

Nov 18 · 1:57 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterCaptainK47

those are not as bad as i thought they would be and there still terrible

Nov 18 · 2:01 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterjoe

Alot of people really hate it, but I guess it was just because they were expecting more... Its OK... not good... but OK

Nov 18 · 2:09 PM PST | Registered CommenterGosensgo52

Does anyone find the number of white third jerseys a little bit...odd? My feeling when the NHL went to the home colors a few years back was that so many teams had third jerseys that were colored that it was becoming a hassle for teams to bring two sets of uniforms on the road, and this way they could just bring the one set of whites and leave the colors at home.

Now with the Stars, Leafs, and one of the Canadiens jerseys being white, we're going to start seeing the same problem again with teams being forced to bring 2 sets of clothes with them on the road. I know it's all about marketing and stuff, but why is it so hard to just do a colored third to keep things sane?

Nov 18 · 2:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterLittleWolf

Meh.

Nov 18 · 2:26 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterOIlerLuver

nba meet nhl

ugh

Nov 18 · 2:39 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterLance

Easily the worst 3rd jersey there is. As if their home wasn't enough garbage. Now we have to deal with this.

Nov 18 · 3:07 PM PST | Unregistered Commenter~Kilza~

I can't speak for Stars fans, but I personally think the all-white look is super sharp.

Nov 18 · 3:54 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterbmaz

Probaly took them 10 minutes or less to slightly change the colour of the lettering and slap it on the front. Well, basketball jerseys do need an away jersey to go with them. That will be the away jersey for the Stars in a couple of years most likely shudder. It is a clean jersey but lazy, uninspired and so easy to design, even I could do it (which is something considering the little artistic talent I possess).

Nov 18 · 4:02 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterWingerdinger

As a Stars fan, i knew it was gonna look bad. I was never a fan of their current home jersey, and to make a white version of it, makes no sense. They should have made a green jersey, and at least their current road jersey is ok looking.

Nov 18 · 4:10 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterFlorio

In a word: BORING.

Looks like someone put this together in a week. At least those that did not know, will find out that the Stars are from Dallas.

I am just happy that my Sharks will have an awesome new 3rd Jersey similar to their last awesome 3rd jersey.Go Sharks!

Nov 18 · 4:11 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBrandon

If the Dallas fans are ok with it, that's fine, but I still believe they should be able to root for a team with a logo on its chest.

Nov 18 · 4:19 PM PST | Registered CommenterWingerdinger

I'd have much rather seen a green jersey with their logo on it. I don't know why they need two white jerseys. This is boring, but at least it's not ugly.

EPIC FAIL

Nov 18 · 5:09 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterIceman

Way better and more original than oilers, isles, flyers, sabres, leafs, and penguins (those jerseys aren't used anymore for a reason. let the ones that ran their course fade isles, oilers, flyers, and pens. At least sabres and leafs are just trying to please their fan base, the others are just dwelling in the past success of the jerseys). Only dallas should use this style of jersey- thrashers -since they were the first they deserve to be the only unique ones with this jersey style. I love them and their originality for a one team only jersey. Thrashers I guess could get away with it as just a third (and not a full time jersey) since it says the team name and not the city on the front. Just saying its great and original as a one team thing, don't overdo it.

Nov 18 · 5:33 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKoho

KOHO
I'm from Pittsburgh, been a diehard Pens fan since 1980(I was all of 7yrs old then), How are the Pens "just dwelling in the past success of the jerseys"? The Penguins SUCKED arse when they wore the baby blue and white uniforms in the 60's, 70's. They switched to black and gold in January of 1980. I personally HATE the baby blue! So again I ask How are the Pens "just dwelling in the past success of the jerseys"? Do some research!! The Dallas/Edmonton/Thrashers uniforms look like something my 12yr old wears to bed at night OR they look like Long sleeve football jerseys.

KOHO,
I'm from Pittsburgh and I've been a diehard Pens fan since 1980(I was all of 7yrs old then). I want to know where you get your info? How are the Pens "are just dwelling in the past success of the jerseys"? The Pens were born in 1967, they wore baby blue and white(1967 - January 1980) and THEY SUCKED ARSE. They changed to black and gold in January of 1980. So how are the Pens dwelling in the past success of a jersey when they sucked for all those years that they wore blue and white???? and by the way, the current Dallas/Edmonton/atlanta 3rd jerseys look like something my 12yr old wears to bed at night. OR they look like a long sleev footbal jersey. Edmonton WON 5 Cups(mid 80's) wearing royal blue and orange. Islanders WON 4 Cups(early 80's) wearing royal blue and red. Flyers WON 2 Cups(mid 70's) wearing an Orange jersey(I loved to hate the Flyers road orange jersey, glad they brought it back).

Nov 18 · 6:31 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJoe Fitzgerald

Well, I'm disappointed. I'm a Stars fan and I've been really looking forward to the new jersey. I wasn't thrilled when I heard a while ago that it was going to be white with green and black trim and look exactly like the home, but now I'm really disappointed. They could taken so many different directions for the third, but they didn't. I love the away jersey and I like the away one too, but taking the away jersey and pretty much slapping the away jersey's front on is not cool; it is down right depressing. They could have at least taken the Texas emblem or at least an updated version of it and used it on the front and use green and black stripes instead of green and gold. Ugh, I've been a little depressed all day because of this, and I will probably continue to be. Man, I really want to yell at Tom Hicks or whoever it was that gave the okay on this jersey. It is such as shame that we have such a disappointing third when so many awesome, different (at least in respect to current jerseys) thirds have popped up in different parts of the league.

Nov 18 · 6:36 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterIan

I really dont know why everyone hates Dallas's jerseys -- I love the 'DALLAS" across the chest, and I really love these. They look bad-ass. I guess you have to be a Texan to understand...

Nov 18 · 8:39 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterwes

It's not that they look bad, because they don't. The problem is that this team now has three jerseys and only one of them features a logo. Who would buy this jersey, especially if they already have the black version?

Nov 18 · 9:20 PM PST | Unregistered Commenteradtthosa

i think that they´re gonna use this as their white jerseysbecause its white version of their dark jersey

Nov 19 · 5:41 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterBolts-fan 95

BORING!! they could have done something so much better. And if you want brad richards back, take him, please.

Nov 19 · 7:15 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterdrew

haha Joe calm down know-it-all, I alread knew everything you wasted your life typing. As I was typing what I said I knew someone was gonna say something about me including the pens in that statement (since i knew they sucked back when the other teams used their throwbacks), but I was referring to the teams success in them at the winter classic not when they were originally used. I just don't think they're trying to please their fan base by using baby blue (thats why I didn't include them with the sabres), if they were they'd probably go back to yellow gold from vegas gold. Maybe they're trying to excite their fan base idk. But you can't deny that any of the other traditional throwbacks I listed with the pens are dwelling on their past cups.
