Ducks 3rd Jersey Unveiled!

The Anaheim Ducks skated out in their brand new alternate uniforms for this afternoon's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Ducks debut new thirdsThe jersey was leaked online some time ago but today provided our first look at the smaller details like socks, numbers and nameplates. And I will say this — they've handled the orange rather well. By that I mean there's a lot more of it on this uniform.

In addition, the duck mask logo from the '90s makes its glorious return to the Anaheim uniforms with this effort. But probably the best sign that the team is moving forward with its identity is the full webbed D on the chest.

The wordmark has been the second biggest downfall of Ducks sweaters since 2006. However, the biggest issue was the overuse of black and that hasn't gone anywhere, as you can see.

My favorite part of this uniform is the added orange. I don't see the point of it outlining the shoulders, but I like it on the socks, jersey cuffs and sides. Just wish they could've outlined the numbers in it, rather than gold.

The Ducks neat stuff related to the jersey on their website. Here's a PDF talking about the design development and here's the third jersey schedule.

So now that you've seen the uniform in its entirety, what do you think? Has your opinion changed at all? Is black becoming more acceptable in a league where blue is becoming the go-to alternate jersey color?

Nasty jersey! Too much black and orange. They look like bloody Halloween jerseys. The orange socks oh man I won't even go there. Like others have said as well, the jersey looks too busy, but at least they have a logo on it instead of word art.

I would've liked these if they had dropped the gold entirely, and outlined the lettering and numbers in orange.

I like the orange in principal, but they chose a really offensive shade of it. Also, way too many stripes, 4/10.

The Ducks definitely missed big time with these. From the jerseys, to the pants, to the socks - I feel like these 3rds were a wasted opportunity. I appreciate that they didn't try to go the 'throwback' route, but that's it.

the socks are the worst of all!!!! Orange unis should be banned except for the flyers

Nov 27 · 12:56 PM PST | Unregistered Commentermark

I love the fact that people actually like this miserable excuse for an alternate jersey...but the Rangers new one is SO boring!!

Nov 27 · 6:54 PM PST | Unregistered Commentersw

I agree with Leafs that the striping is a bit random, and I wasn't impressed when the jersey first leaked. But now that I see the whole uniform kit, I think it actually looks pretty good. I think emphasizing the orange was a good move. I don't like that snot-gold color that the Ducks and Penguins use.

Speaking of the Penguins, as a loyal Pittsburgher, I think it's awesome that Florida and Columbus found our 3rd jersey worth copying. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, you know ;-)

It looked good to me when I first saw it when it was leaked, but seeing it in action, it looks horrible IMO.

Nov 28 · 8:57 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterFrank

I like it- except for the orange piping. I have never been a fan of piping on the shoulders; whether it be for the Canes, Isles, or the Ducks.

Nov 28 · 1:03 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJust a Fan

Terrible , just not that much different from their regular uniforms , should have incorporated some colors from their original uniforms , but at least there is some color other than solid bland blue as is the current trend of third jerseys

Nov 28 · 2:29 PM PST | Unregistered Commentertoadman

Wow, this is right up there with Atlanta's third and Colorado's regular jerseys as the worst in the league. Just awful. How did this make it to the ice?

Nov 28 · 3:24 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJames

Absolutely terrible. It has way too many stripes, and the jersey/sock combination is probably the worst I have ever seen. I know that the sock pattern matches the inset jersey stripes but it looks really weird.

Nov 28 · 6:17 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterAaron12

When I first saw the jersey on the ice I was skeptical because of the orange socks, but after a while the jersey (including the socks) grew on me. I feel that it is a lot more original than all those blue third jersey's out there. I think most people don't like the jersey because the socks have orange on them. But the jersey does look much different than any other jersey that's been in the nhl, which I think is good because the whole point of a third jersey is to be different right? I do like the piping around the shoulders, but I agree that the side piping could have been better. Like where they're going with the orange and....... ya. Overall an under rated jersey and I give it a B.

Nov 28 · 10:39 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndy

A little too busy looking. They are a combination of the Flyers (black/orange) and Penguins(black/Vegas gold)...

Nov 29 · 4:53 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMatt

The shoulder piping is flat out ugly. Piping in general should just be banned.
Best thing about it is the shoulder patch.

Nov 29 · 5:02 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJ3

I don't like the orange outline on the shoulders or the continued overuse of black as you said. Better than the normal home sweaters tho

Nov 29 · 9:38 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMwad

I think the reintroduction of the mighty ducks logo suggests that this jersey will be come the new home jersey, a white road version will be debut next year, and the mighty ducks logo will make a triumphant return as a 3rd jersey.

Would be an improvement to have the socks modified such that the gold band is changed to orange and both the current location of orange back to black.

Nov 29 · 1:21 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDan

Anaheim Doritos. Seriously, that orange is awful.

Worst unis in the league.

Nov 29 · 1:34 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMarcus

I still think that webbed foot D thing is one of the worst logos in the league and I don't get the socks. I they actually trying to make them look like Ducks?

Nov 29 · 2:40 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterPAUL

heinous.

Nov 29 · 9:58 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterdave

While I am not crazy for them, I will say it is an improvement compared to their current black jerseys.
I'll give them points for being original with the sock design as well.
I do not care for the trend of colouring the lines where the jersey fabrics meet, a la the shoulders and diagonal down the torso, so the orange lining on these unis look odd.
At last, another team went for the under-arm vertical piping like the Flames did. Still not the best, but its unique.

Overall, it could have been a lot better, but also a lot worse.

Would be nice if that shoulder patch logo was larger. Just put the old logo there by itself! It's pretty distinguishable.

Starting to look better to me because of the increasing amount of powder blue/navy blue combination third jerseys. It may be ugly but hey, It's different.

Kriss666 called a spade "a spade". When you look at this joke of a uniform the Ducks came up with, you have to wonder is this: did the Ducks want to copy the Penguins or the Flyers? Well, their solution was to copy both. Holy cow!! How creative!! Why not just go back to their Mighty Duck colours of jade and eggplant(deep purple) and have a mallard design? Use traditional horizontal striping and block-style numbers and then you would have a winner. Unfortunately, the Colorado Avalanche didn't design their uniforms in the simple design they had in Quebec and that inspired teams like the Ducks and Thrashers to come up with bushleague uniforms instead of HOCKEY uniforms.

Dec 1 · 10:32 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndre

I like the overall jersey, but I just don't like the collar. I like it better than the current Home and Away.

Dec 1 · 5:37 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterD3nZ

I don't think they turned out that bad, of course the original duds would have been better but face it, thast ain't gonna happen any time soon unless all of anaheim holds a protest to never buy jerseys in front of the rink and burn all currently owned jersey's whilst sporting the old uniforms.

I dig the orange and i think it would have worked alot better with the socks and such had they just made them shoulder yokes solid orange rather than the thin piping.. BUT that would have totally tkaen away from the throwback patch so I guess that is probably why they didn't.

Dec 1 · 6:07 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

we miss you Chris, we need some new posts!

These Jerseys are ok, despite what everyone says. I think it would be better if they just put the D logo on there regular home and away jerseys and then create a completely different 3rd jersey, mainly orange, but not this bright, scaled down just a little. wow that's bright!

Dec 3 · 4:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKirk Hodgson

Must say, questioned the orange socks, but after seeing it live the first time, they dun look half bad at all.

Dec 3 · 9:24 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBleys

The orange on the top of the socks makes them look like Donald Duck legs wearing socks. Which I suppose makes sense from a Mighty Ducks organization standpoint, but it looks horrible and ridiculous.

Dec 11 · 11:39 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDucksSuck

I don't understand why Reebok needed all kinds of research and hundreds of drawings to come up with this design. There are too many stripes and needless designs on the jersey. Why don't they just have a solid black jersey with stripes on the arm and the bottom of the jersey, like every team did until about 15 years ago? The piping on the jersey's shoulders and that shape on the sides don't do anything for it Also, the crest is way too big. Reebok should realize that sometimes less is better.

Dec 15 · 11:38 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDr. Jay

Take the current home and away jerseys, slap the "D" logo on it, and you've got a perfect Anaheim Ducks jersey. This third is a fucking joke.

Dec 20 · 10:56 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterRAOU RAOU RAOU

these are the worst jerseys of all time. my eyes are bleeding. possibly even worse than the duck jumping thru the ice

Jerseys are so sick
