Canucks Jersey Sked is Here

The Vancouver Canucks released a schedule detailing when their two special sweaters will be used during the 2010-11 season.

In addition to the third jersey introduced in 2008, the Canucks will sport a throwback jersey to celebrate 40 years in the National Hockey League. The new sweater debuted on opening night at Rogers Arena when the Canucks hosted the Los Angeles Kings for the 40th anniversary night.

Icethetics reader Kevin wrote in yesterday with the link via Twitter. I'm not sure how long this schedule has been posted on the Canucks' website, though. The alternate will be worn on nine occasions while the vintage sweater gets a total of five games.

First, the full third jersey schedule as follows:

  • Fri., Oct. 22 - vs Minnesota
  • Sat., Nov. 20 - vs Chicago
  • Sun., Dec. 5 - vs St. Louis
  • Tue., Dec. 28 - vs Philadelphia
  • Fri., Jan. 7 - vs Edmonton
  • Sat., Jan. 22 - vs Calgary
  • Mon., Feb. 7 - vs Ottawa
  • Sat., Feb. 26 - vs Boston
  • Sat., Apr. 2 - vs Edmonton

Interestingly, the month of March seems to be the most popular for third jerseys around the rest of the league. Vancouver doesn't plan to wear anything special then.

Now, the short retro jersey schedule:

  • Fri., Oct. 9 - vs Los Angeles
  • Tue., Oct. 26 - vs Colorado
  • Sat., Nov. 6 - vs Detroit
  • Sat., Dec. 18 - vs Toronto
  • Tues., Feb. 22 - vs Montreal

Obviously, four of the above dates have already past but better late than never, right?

I also have unofficial third jersey schedules for the Flames and Senators. Those will be going up as soon as I can find a moment to spare.

The Canucks are also supposed to be wearing their retros on "Ring of Honor" nights. The next of which is Nov. 24.

Oh brother, why is everybody so focused on the player in the picture with these posts? Should I blur out the faces or something? It doesn't matter. It's just meant to be a nice, complete shot of the uniform. You guys crack me up sometimes.

And to Johnny Canuck, I've heard that as well but this is the complete schedule listed on the team's website. Don't know why they'd leave any dates out.

I wonder why they don't wear anything special against the sabres. They're both celebrating their 40th season.

Chris -- Thanks a lot for all the updates. Any inkling on if the Canucks could now think of going with their blue skate in rink at home and the white retro on the road? That would be an amazing set. Throw in a green-based third jersey (has that ever been attempted for them?) with the blue and white stink in rink as a third....wowzers ! That new retro white one they sport has been BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL (AS FAR AS NHL JERSEYS ARE CONCERNED).

MP, that post is funny, first u call it skate in rink, (which by the way, i have heard people say alot by mistake) but then u call it stink in rink. Or was that on purpose? I admit, it can be confusing keeping up on what to call the Canucks different logos. U got the Skate, and then the Stick, then the V and then the Whale.( not in that order)

I gotta say, watching the games with the retro uni's, those look really nice. I'd love if they kept them. The logo in the retro is nicer than the modernized version in my opinion. Altough, I don't mind having the word mark on one of the Jerseys. It looks like the old Canucks wordmark of pre-nhl days.

LOVE those classic vintage unforms. Too bad Ring Of Honour Night was against Colorado, Oct 26. I would have preferred the 'Nucks to wear the thirds against the Avs and the vintage against Chicago, Nov 20, which is a Saturday-HNIC.

I totally agree with MP. And better yet - in the playoffs! This is a very strong Canucks team that can go very far. Nameplates would have to be stitched on the back, though. Afterall, the Maple Leafs have nameplates on their third vintage sweaters. Back in the mid 60s, when the Leafs last wore them full-time, there were no names on the back.

As for not wearing the thirds in March, the Canucks do not have any home games on either Sunday or Saturday. So, that might explain why the thirds aren't scheduled to be worn then.

Overall, I love BOTH sweaters. I hope the Canucks will keep the vintage as part of their uniform package. I have also heard that this is the last year of the contract of the orca logo and Vancouver wordmark. Good riddance.

Sorry, my bad. I was typing fast, and I put skate instead of stick. OOps. I would do a preview on here, but it always gives me a blank screen (and i end up just clicking confirm).

Could someone do a photoshop rendering of what a green stick-in-rink would look like? We could have a winner on our hands, folks. It would be modern, different and complementary. That's your ideal set. It's perfect. It's three colors that go beautifully with one another (blue, green white), represent the area in which the team plays, and it allows you to create three jerseys (white-based, blue and green) that are linked. Would any team even have something this sweet? It would be like if the Oilers had a set that included their vintage blue, a vintage white and an orange-based where you switch the blue and orange swatches.

In the case of the Canucks achieving this mythical set that I imagine, it's so doable... 2 are already made for you. You have the template. Just swap the blue and the green in the blue-based, and you could have a dynamite jersey...Does any team use three colors and have 3 jerseys (including a white) that are complementary? It should be a slam dunk, no? The Jackets could achieve it easily. Oh well. Same for the C®aps.

On the subject of the Orca, I"ve hard from "insiders" for 2-3 years that that year was the final one for the Orca deal. Then I heard rumors about the Olympics, ownership, naming rights, stadium, blah blah, and everyone had a theory about how the Orca would die. All rumors have proven to be wrong. I wouldn't get your hopes up. I hear every year about how we could see a white version of the Oilers' vintage sweater. Hasn't happened. Things that I want to happen (like all of the previous stuff I mentioned), like the Bruins using that yellow jersey full time and dumping that dumb bear one, are always rumored but never seemingly supported by fact -- more like wishful thinking.

I would like to thank the 'Nucks for wearing the vintage whites last saturday vs Detroit. Seeing the brilliant red sweaters for the Wings face off against eye-popping colors of the vintage jerseys was a real treat for the eyes. It was also nice seeing a team wearing the home whites again.
