Bruins, Kings 3rd Jersey Schedules
Couple of new third jersey schedules to get on the blog today.
The Boston Bruins are bringing back their black third jerseys for a fourth season this year. On October 21, the club released a schedule detailing when it will be worn during the 2011-12 season.
I'm still holding out hope that one day they'll come to their senses and drop this jersey in favor of the gold Winter Classic one. But if I recall right, I don't think many Bruins fans would agree with me on that one.
Zdeno CharaThe alternate threads will see action in 11 home games throughout the year. Here's the breakdown:
- Sat., Oct. 22 – vs. San Jose Sharks
- Tues., Nov. 15 – vs. New Jersey Devils
- Fri., Nov. 25 – vs. Detroit Red Wings
- Thurs., Dec. 8 – vs. Florida Panthers
- Mon., Dec. 19 – vs. Montreal Canadiens
- Sat., Jan. 21 – vs. New York Rangers
- Tues., Jan. 31 – vs. Ottawa Senators
- Sat., Feb. 11 – vs. Nashville Predators
- Sat., Mar. 3 – vs. New York Islanders
- Sat., Mar. 17 – vs. Philadelphia Flyers
- Sat., Apr. 7 – vs. Buffalo Sabres
The Bruins also pointed out that on Sat., Dec. 3, they'll wear their road white jerseys at home when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Still think it's incomplete without waist stripes.
Moving on now to L.A.
The Los Angeles Kings basically have two alternate jerseys to wear this season. And according to the team, both are going to be used rather sparingly.
The new third jersey is a reprise of their old home jersey which lasted from 2007 until last year. (The new home jersey was the third until last year.) Plus, they're bringing back the brightly-colored purple and gold Legends Night jersey for a few games.
Justin WilliamsBut first, the third jersey will see action in just eight games (two on the road), about half of the league maximum.

- Tues., Nov. 8 – vs. Nashville Predators
- Tues., Nov. 22 – at St. Louis Blues
- Wed., Nov. 23 – at Dallas Stars
- Thurs., Dec. 8 – vs. Minnesota Wild
- Thurs., Jan. 5 – vs. Phoenix Coyotes
- Thurs., Jan. 12 – vs. Dallas Stars
- Thurs., Feb. 16 – vs. Phoenix Coyotes
Some of those dates are pulled from the Kings' website via the link above. The rest come from LA Kings Insider Rich Hammond in a blog post from October 25.
There are only three Legends Nights, where the Kings will don those über-retro sweaters from the 1960s. They are as follows:
- Sat., Dec. 10 – vs. Dallas Stars
- Mon., Jan. 2 – vs. Colorado Avalanche
- Sat., Feb. 18 – vs. Calgary Flames
A couple other teams should be sporting retro jerseys on Jan. 2, but we're still waiting to see what the Rangers' and Flyers' Winter Classic jerseys will look like.
All of these schedules are going in the sidebar calendar along with the Tampa Bay Lightning's schedule. They haven't officially released a schedule, but they've historically worn the BOLTS jersey for weekend home games only and that's continued into this season.

Another third jersey schedule to add.
The Florida Panthers confirmed via Twitter last week that the blue third jerseys will be worn for all Sunday home games during the season.
This is apparently the final season that we'll be seeing the "JetBlue jerseys" as you'll recall Miami Herald beat writer George Richards reported in September that team management has fallen out of love with the look in a big way. GM Mike Santos actually called them "silly colors," referring to the dark blue and light blue of the alternate uniform.

I understand Santos' position. This jersey doesn't exactly scream Panthers and it got a lot of crap for borrowing the colors of the Penguins' third, but... I've always thought it was a nice looking jersey.
But I guess that leaves another question. When this jersey is retired, will the Panthers go back to the third jersey drawing board? Or will they stick with just two sweaters for a while? And if they do try a new third, what's there best bet?

The LA kings 3rd or 4th as I call it (original forums are the best) needs to get rid of that Los angeles at the bottom and change the striping up a bit, way too thick imo.
Just wanted to point out in an October 25th post on lakingsinsider.com, Rich Hammond mentioned that the Kings would also wear their third jerseys: Dec. 8 vs. Minnesota and Feb. 16 vs. Phoenix. They will also be worn on the road Nov. 22 @ St. Louis and Nov. 23 @ Dallas.

Chris, I know this news might be a little late, but on the Panthers' FB page a few weeks ago they said in the comments section of a post that they would be wearing their third jersey on all Sunday home games. We'll see tomorrow how accurate what they're saying is.
As a Bruins fan, I totally agree with switching to a gold 3rd jersey. I feel the alternate logo on the Winter Classic uniform would be a good way to go.
At first, I couldn't figure out why the Kings would wear their great purple and gold classics against teams with bad uniforms like the Stars(too dull and plain) and the Avalanche(too busy and too minor league). Now, I know. It is to show the hockey world what a nice-looking hockey uniform is supposed to look like - colourful, but simple and traditional.
Being a life long Bruins fan . I wish they would use the winter classic as a fourth set like they did in '10 . I actually like thier 3rds and they are much sharper looking in person.
I'd like to see them bring back the WC jerseys too. Also, the yellow/gold jersey above is 10 times better than their current third.
The Bruins would be well off with the Winter Classic look, as their third jersey looks too similar to their home looks. Had the Panthers introduced the third jersey this year instead of a few years back, it would have looked better, but I feel this change in home looks signals the end of the third jerseys, as it just feels out of place now instead of providing a true alternate look.
As a huge Bruins fan I also whole heartedly agree that the gold WC Jersey needs to be part of the regular rotation. The gold sweater is easily one of the nicest in hockey period. Not to mention having a White=road Black=home and Gold=third is much better than a W=road B=home Blacker=third. I don't dislike the black 3rd, it's just that I LOVE the gold WC sweater. I would love to start a bring back the gold campaign for the B's. Anyone interested lets do this.
As a Panthers fan, after an initial "Hey, that's a slick-looking sweater" I realized that it had nothing to do with the team and started to despise it (this happened over the course of about 2 weeks). If you place the skating Penguin on it or even the Lightning's logo (or the Jets with some slight color tweaks?) it would be great, but not for my Cats.
If and when they return to the 3rd uniform, I'd like to see them re-invent their navy alternate that the team wore pre-Reebok (which became the home later on). It may seem silly to replace navy with navy, but it's all about replacing the baby blue and those hideous logos. Bring back the cat with the broken stick - an old trademark of a Panthers alternate jersey - and come up with something to make it a Panthers navy jersey (Hint: no color other than red, navy blue, white and yellow-gold).
On the Bruins conversation, I would love to see the Winter Classic jersey adopted over the current alternate (which I'm not a fan of, personally). Those gold/brown jerseys were SHARP.
For the Panthers, I wouldn't mind seeing the light blue switched to red, replace the ''FLA'' shoulder logo for the usual sun & palm tree logo and call it a day.

I've always referred to the Panthers' JetBlue uniforms as their University of Maine sweaters. Who thought they were a good idea?
The old Marcel Dionne Kings sweator is a great traditional set of colors that says "California". Black....the commish needs to stop this trend before color TV images become mute.
Being a lifelong Bruins fan, I think that the B's should somehow incorporate their "Vintage" jerseys from the early 1970's in the rotation. The contrast of the gold 'B' on the black sweaters is nice. So is the white stripe on the sock (opposite of what is on the home sock) I 'm also a huge fan of the two colored number with classic block letters. (NO sarrifs) This should be worn whenever they play an Original 6 opponent. I do like the Winter Classic sweater- Twice per season at the most. For marketing purposes, they could easily wear all 5 jerseys. But if one had to go- I'd say the current third should take a break.
Although the Bruins just changed their uniforms in 2007-08 and they were voted 2nd best uniforms in the NHL, i believe it it time for a change. I think they should do this: make the away jersey like the 1970 home jersey but with their current logo and the home jersey the winter classic design with their current logo. As for an alternate jersey i would use the third jersey logo and put it on our current home jersey.
