Piece of Jets Uniform Revealed
As we wait for the Winnipeg Jets to unveil their new uniforms, it seems Blake Wheeler is there for those dying for a leak.
Today, the Jets forward tweeted a photo of what are presumably his new uniforms pants. They're dark blue with the alternate wordmark which was officially unveiled a month ago by the team.
The photo was posted today at about 1 PM Central time to Wheeler's Twitter account, @BiggieFunke:
Here it is...What do you guys think? http://lockerz.com/s/132236390
We still haven't seen the jerseys yet despite the numerous reports of leaks. I'll say it again. Any online retailer claiming to be selling the unreleased jerseys is a fraud. That's really all there is to it.
And you don't have to believe me. The Jets have repeatedly stated that the alleged "leaks" are "not even close" to real thing. This article from Sun Media goes into detail with the club's management.
Here's a good excerpt regarding the third jersey questions:
The Winnipeg Jets will have only two uniforms this coming season: home and away.
Although it’s become common over the past several years for NHL and other pro sports teams to don third jerseys for some games, it doesn’t look like the Jets will follow suit, at least not this year.
“There will likely not be a third alternate jersey this year, just due to the process of getting the main two done,” said Scott Brown, director of communications for True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Jets. “We’re going to hopefully focus on the main logos and the main jerseys.”
As far as when you'll be able to get your hands on the actual jerseys, you have more waiting to do:
“The authentic jerseys won’t be available until October, and replica jerseys likely not until November. That comes from the manufacturer,” said Brown. Nevertheless, photos purporting to be leaks of the new Jets jerseys have been circulating on the Internet for weeks.
Brown said a common one showing a dark blue jersey with the main plane logo in the middle is “not even close” to legitimate. The same goes for any other supposed sneak previews.
Over the weekend, I posted graphic representations what all of next season's jerseys will look like, even the unreleased ones — except the Jets. They're the most tightly-guarded jersey designs in history, I think. I'm very impressed with True North, Reebok and the NHL for keeping this under wraps until they're ready.
Speaking of fakes...
Fake Leafs Third Hits the Web
This morning, Jeff of LeafsHQ posted a photo of what appears to be the Toronto Maple Leafs' new third jersey (right). I can assure you this is a counterfeit job.
Even if I hadn't already seen the real jersey myself, it would be quite obvious that this is a phony. I suppose over time you get pretty good at spotting the red flags. For example, the Reebok vector on the sleeve will not be on any new jersey in 2011.
But since I'm able to tell you which details are wrong, I will. First, and most obvious is the crest. On the real jersey, it's a modernized version of that 1967 logo. There's a silver inner-outline and more spacing between the letters in TORONTO.
The top and bottom stripes on the sleeves and waist are thicker here than they should be, and the piping around the wrists doesn't exist on the actual sweater.
Obviously, we're looking at the work of a counterfeiter who's read multiple online reports of the fact that the Leafs' new third will resemble the 1967 jersey. So while this design is on the right track, it's still all wrong. Just thought you should know.

So...if the Jets pants are navy blue, and there's no red in the jersey except for the logo, and the navy blue jersey fakes with accents of light blue and silver are "not even close"...would that hint that the dark jersey is light blue? Not that they wouldn't wear solid navy (see: Toronto, Tampa, Buffalo) at home, but wouldn't a navy jersey, almost regardless of striping, be in the ballpark? Or maybe I just really want to see what the new threads look like...that's also a big possibility.
DREW> I sure hope so. I'm holding out hope that they go with the lighter blue as the main color of the sweaters because, IMO, the main roundel logo looks so nice on it. And for the exact reasons you mentioned...I have hope.
i wonder if they do do a light blue home it will have the alt word mark as the crest but on the away it will have the primary logo
Thanks Chris for posting info on the Leafs fake. Nothing frustrates me more than knock-offs.
I'm surprised after those pants leaked True North didn't scramble for an e-press conference.
i hate knockoffs, have never bought one and never will. Not only do they suck but you're possibly supporting poor job conditions in china and i read you'e also buying unlicensed jerseys, which is illegal. Anyway I hope the jets jerseys arent as boaring as their logos, however i will say the script looks really nice, maybe they could put the script somewhere in the logo crest like their 90s jerseys. gosh cant wait till they come out.
Call me crazy, but if not a home jersey this year, then next year as an alternate, I'd like to see the Jets jersey be silver. The silver would match the CF-18 and would stand out against the blue pants. Plus, it's not a jersey colour many teams use, especially with Nashville changing theirs.
I work at a major sports retailer in Winnipeg, and I can tell you that the information about replica jerseys given is NOT accurate. We are told we will have the premier (replica) jerseys the first week of October, and that the full Pro Weight Edge jerseys will not be in until a later date.
I was hoping the Jets would bring something different to the NHL, but looks like they're gonna look like the Trashers. Though the Trashers had a better logo.
@MrPsychic I'm going to have to say thats a great call there. Talk about standing out in a sea of blue and red...silver would definitely be something interesting to look into. Maybe a blue shoulder yoke on there to keep it from looking like a boring gray jersey from afar? Surprised no one has thrown that in their concepts yet.
they can leak any part of the jets thats not the jersey because they cant worry about knockoffs because who would sell these pants who would buy them admn who would waer them to watch an nhl team
DREW HE ALSO SAID THE LOGO ON THE NAVY BLUE WAS "NOT EVEN CLOSE" SO DOES THAT MEAN THAT IT IS THE ALTERNATE WORD MARK ON THE FRONT
I can't believe there is so much anticipation for Jets stuff that hockey pants are creating a online stir
has anyone seen chris masons pads? they are white and light blue like the wordmark. Maybe he knows something we dont
If the jerseys are unveiled in September, and they don't go on sale until November, that will give knockoff retailers plenty of time to make the jerseys. And that's what TNSE didn't want to happen. This is really messed up.
On the right side of the Jets pants there is a dark blue/grey sweater that looks like its made of hockey jersey mesh. Do you think it could be the Jets jersey in disguised???
For what it's worth, most of the Jets merchandise being sold in stores around the city is navy blue or white. The only place I've even seen the light blue is in the "Jets Gear" team store, and it accounted for a small percentage of the store's selection. I would think if they were going to use the light blue for the home jerseys they wouldn't be building up such a navy blue brand identity. Doesn't make a lot of sense to paint the city navy blue then have an arena full of fans wearing the wrong colour on opening day.
@Something: It's all speculation. He could've just meant the striping is "not even close" or the color is "not even close" or the use of logos is "not even close" or some combination. He could even be lying. Who knows.
Well, if the knockoffs online aren't even close, than expect a modern piping and pit-stained 'massterpiece'.
If the knockoffs using some of the great fan designs are wrong, I would recommend winnipeggers snap 'em up before the real ones are released looking like crap.
@ Aoystreck
So I guess the light blue Logo tees and Team Authentic tees and the hoodys at RiverCity don't count?
@eddie: I made a 3rd with silver, though the shoulders are dark grey (but in hindsight, should've made them blue).
Gonna be interesting to see what they come up with eventually though, hoping for navy blue at least...
Something that never even occurred to me, what if they went with gunmetal gray unis? That would actually set off the military inspired logo really well.
@ Ian K. They still make up a small minority of the merchandise they've put up for sale. I didn't mean it wasn't available anywhere else, its just that the team store is the only place I personally have seen light blue. Everywhere I've seen (Canadian Tire, hat kiosks in malls, etc) everything has been navy or white, with the exception of a few stylized gray ladies tees. That suggests in my mind that navy is the main team colour, and that the others are at best accent colours.
I'm willing to bet that the 'leaked' fake jerseys floating around are probably alot closer to the way the actual jerseys will look like than True North's willing to publicly admit.
Wow! A pair of navy hockey pants with JETS on the right leg! Another solid, unstriped dark hockey pants. So unlike what the Bruins, Flyers, Islanders, Kings, Leafs, Panthers, Predators, Sabres, Sharks, Stars et al, already wear. Let's stripe those bad boys! The uniform just looks unfinished without pants on the stripes.
Oops. Meant to say "stripes on the pants".
Robert i agree, some teams should really add stripes on their pants, im a huge flyers fan and dnt understand why we dont add a white orange white stripe to ours. it would make our classy jerseys really stand out. and 90% of our players just wear all black gloves they look pretty boring without stripes on them too. Out of the other teams you mentioned i think the sharks, kings, and sabres would look the coolest with some stripes as well.
JAB --- the orange-white-orange would look AWESOME on the Flyers. Must be why I like the pics of them in Cooperalls so much.
Oops. Meant to say white-orange-white stripe on the Flyer's pants would look awesome.
