Canucks 2011-12 Third Jersey Sked

The Vancouver Canucks will sport their stick-in-the-rink third jersey 15 times according to the schedule posted on the team's website.

The current alternate uniform, entering its fourth season, has been in use since the 2008-09 season — the first year of third jerseys after Reebok took over in 2007. Last year, the Canucks introduced a replica of their original 1970 white jersey in honor of their 40th anniversary. It does not appear they will continue to use it this year.

Alex BurrowsHere's an overview of the 15 nights they plan to put the blue thirds to work during the 2011-12 campaign:

  • Tues., Oct. 18 – vs. New York Rangers
  • Sat., Oct. 22 – vs. Minnesota Wild
  • Tues., Oct. 25 – at Edmonton Oilers
  • Sat., Oct. 29 – vs. Washington Capitals
  • Wed., Nov. 16 – vs. Chicago Blackhawks
  • Mon., Dec. 26 – vs. Edmonton Oilers
  • Mon., Jan. 2 – vs. San Jose Sharks
  • Sat., Jan. 21 – vs. San Jose Sharks
  • Thurs., Feb. 2 – vs. Detroit Red Wings
  • Sat., Feb. 18 – vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
  • Sat., Mar. 3 – vs. Buffalo Sabres
  • Thurs., Mar. 8 – vs. Winnipeg Jets
  • Sat., Mar. 10 – vs. Montreal Canadiens
  • Fri., Mar. 30 – vs. Dallas Stars
  • Sat., Apr. 7 – vs. Edmonton Oilers

The lone road game for the alternate jersey is on Oct. 25 in Edmonton. The rest are at Rogers Arena.

I think someone pointed out the other day that is seems the Sabres are showing up on a lot of other teams' third jersey schedules this season. And here they are again. What's up with that?

One last note. Burrows gets a special look here for one reason: He's on my Tampa Bay Barracudas IceHL fantasy team. Go Cudas! (Seriously, the IceHL should be a blast this year!)

Amazing jersey. Really wish the Canucks would adopt it full-time... But it doesn't look like it's ever going to happen. It's a shame the vintage 1970s sweaters from last year won't be popping up again because those were very sharp and full of colour! Oh well. GO CANUCKS GO

The reason the Canucks are wearing the ALT against the Sabres is because they both came into the league the same year and both teams would be close to wearing their original logos. Might be a stretch but could be a reason.

I completely echo Jimbo's comments. Compared to the "copy and paste" Vancouver orca jerseys, these sweaters show the true spirit of the Canucks. The talk of any logo change has been silent, but I think this will be the last year of the orca jerseys. When the Canucks kept the orca back in '07, the team wasn't allowed to change its logo due to the battle over ownership in the courts. The 'Vancouver' was added to sell jerseys to tourists during the Olympics. It is possible that the thirds could be promoted to full-time status but there is also the chance of the Canucks adopting the updated skating Johnny Canuck as the primary. I would be more than happy with either or.
The only modifications I would make to the third is have traditional block-style numbers and letters with green accents and some green in the v-neck.

They're all wearing their new third unis against the Sabres because the Sabres have the best look in the league and they're just trying to compete. So says a Sabres fan.

Class of 1970. Nothing more. But it will look fantastic.

Having a home jersey and a third jersey this similar is just stupid. This jersey should be the home jersey and the third jersey should be green w/ the Johnny Canuck logo. Do something right jersey-wise for once Canucks!

Why don't they make these full-time. I dislike the Canucks, but this jersey and their 70's retro jersey from last year are far better than their current ones.

I've heard it said a couple times (perhaps here?) - and I think this makes a lot of sense - Vancouver won't take on Johnny Canuck as a logo because of trademark concerns. The logo draws on many threads that would makes it hard to create a solid case for approval (or at least to shoot down sweater designers who just happen to create a uniform that happens to be blue and happens to have a caricature of a lumberjack on it...).

I still hate the Johnny V-neck logo on the shoulders, but I am warming to the rink logo. They should definitely go back to that logo full time.

the 40th anniversary jersey should be VAN's alternate instead of the stick-in-rink. Its too similar to the home jersyes

I agree with Helmet. if there was a Wild-esque nature motif in place of Johnny's head, that'd be better.

But in any case these jerseys have the power to dethrone the whale / VANCOUVER jerseys should management ever consider it. They're great.

I would love to see these jerseys as the home jerseys. I dont mind the orca so much but I hate the Vancouver lettering. It makes it look so minor league to me. I wish theyd just get rid of the lettering. If they did, the jerseys would be fine, tho I do prefer the stick in rink ones more. Please either get rid of the Vancouver lettering or go with the stick in rink.
