Kings, Ducks Unveil Stadium Jerseys!

Video stills from NHL

Dodger Stadium game will feature orange versus grey

The 2014 Stadium Series jerseys to be worn by the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings were unveiled this morning. While we await more photos, check out this unveiling video. Or if you can't watch the video, I grabbed some stills for all to enjoy.

Both teams are sticking with their recently unveiled chrome logos. This suggests the other Stadium teams will likely do the same. However, that may not be the case with the Rangers and Devils. I've heard the Rangers will have a "NEW YORK" script on their jersey while the Devils will simply wear their red and green throwbacks. But I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

As rumored, both jerseys have new ligature shoulder patches. We saw L.A.'s on a T-shirt not too long ago. And Anaheim's "OC" logo was barely visible on another shirt. Both are great extensions of the existing brand identities. But you can definitely tell these two jerseys were designed together. That's good if they were only intended for use during this one game. But if the two teams continue to use them as alternate uniforms, it could be awkward.

The close-ups of the sleeve numbers look a lot like the teaser videos released over the weekend.

And here are the nameplates. Anaheim's is unique with the letters looking very thin on the inside.

Looks like this new collar style is here to stay. We first saw it on the Islanders' Stadium Series jersey. Now the Ducks and Kings are repeating it. It's modern with a hint of retro. Personally, I like it.

Remember, the big game is Jan. 25, 2014. Don't miss the NHL's first orange-versus-grey game!

That is quite possibly the least flattering photo of Ryan Getzlaf ever taken

I think the Kings jersey is wonderful, glad someone finally decided to have a grey jersey. I'd love for them to use this as an alternate someday. I'm a fan of the shoulder patch as well.

The Ducks jersey... well it leaves something to be desired doesn't it? Pretty plain and weird looking in my opinion without any stripes but those ones on the sleeves. Just doesn't look right to me.

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterGoodsOnSabres

Poor fat getzy. They couldn't have done more to make him look any more unflattering. Sad. Still I think both jerseys are great (even though I hate complimenting anything kings related) but spot on. Jan 25 can't come soon enough!

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterSoCalAvsFan

As a Ducks fan I'm disappointed. These jersey would be perfect if they just had something on the shoulders. Instead it just looks like an ugly practice jersey. I love the orange but it's a bit too much without anything else. The Kings jersey is amazing. Although as disappointed as I am, I'll still be getting one.

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndrew O.

While the Kings jersey was pretty much what I expected, I have to say that I am dissapointed in the Ducks jersey (from what I have seen so far). There were MANY concepts on this site that would look a lot better.

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJoe

they're really pushing that "LA" ligature huh? not really impressed with either jersey. but I guess it could have been worse.

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDerek

Looks like Getzlafs is a size or two too small... or NHL jerseys have gone hipster!

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterRobGriff

So I see Anaheim is competing with Buffalo for ugliest jersey this year...

Dec 3 · 9:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterSpencer Guerreiro

I don't hate these....I just want to replace the Ducks logo with a non metallic one.

Dec 3 · 9:11 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterStryker

I cant get past the fact that Getzlaf either gained 200 pounds or is wearing about 200 t-shirts under his sweater... other than that awesome!

Dec 3 · 9:13 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterNick C

Everything on the jersey looks heat pressed on.

Dec 3 · 9:14 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterB

Getzlaf looks really fat. And it looks more like a sweater than a jersey. I don't mean an old time hockey sweater back in the day. I mean a sweater.

Dec 3 · 9:14 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterBrian

Getzlaf looks like a pissed-off Freddie Mercury because his jersey is too small.

Dec 3 · 9:15 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrandon

Getzlaf's jersey looks a little... erm... small?
The orange vs. grey will look good, I think. I like the Kings monochromatic look a lot, I think it really follows through on the whole "chrome" idea.
Not a fan of a wholly orange jersey, and I'd have to say that opinion carries over here, too. Would have liked to see a shoulder yolk on the Ducks' jersey, but I really like the cut of the yolk on the Kings' jersey.

Dec 3 · 9:15 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJana

Both teams to wear black helmets?

Dec 3 · 9:17 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterCJ

We can DEFINITELY see a pattern between the islanders and the kings shoulders. A pattern with the laces is definitely there.

We have two new shoulder patches... but that's just because they are in SoCal. And because "I'm from LA" is cool... and "I'm from Orange County" means your rich. Plus they are facing each other which that battle even means more to them then all of us.

Where is the stadium series patch on the Ducks jersey? I think they are making a mistake. Orange and black = Philly. I'm just happy they used a lot of gold to kind of offset it a little.

Dec 3 · 9:17 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterandrewpheil

ugh. while i don't the Kings jersey itself, those puffy chrome logos are terrible. I mean, why not go all the way and have shiny puffy logos with glitter?

i was actually looking forward to the orange Ducks jersey.

until i saw what they came up with.

death to non-wraparound sleeve stripes!

Dec 3 · 9:23 AM PST | Unregistered Commentergary b

I thought Getzlaf was Jason Sudeikis for a second! As for the jerseys, LA definitely won this battle. I have been hoping for someone to get a grey sweater for years, and this is a good one. I just wish all these stripes went all the way around the sleeves. It would be better to come to a point than to have unfinished stripes, I think that's what gives them the 'practice jersey' look.

Dec 3 · 9:26 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterPierre

I wish someone had thought of making the logos bigger...

Dec 3 · 9:27 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterNoah

They're really pushing the LA vs OC theme with those shoulder patches. I must say that the Kings jersey looks pretty good. Classic elements (striping) with modern designs (shoulders, chrome logo, etc). I am slightly biased in that I am a Kings fan but overall a great look.

The Ducks jersey on the other hand...

Dec 3 · 9:28 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterTaylor

Kings jersey actually works fairly well imo, that Ducks one though... jeeze. Could they have made it more plain looking? It looks like a practice jersey, if not pajamas.

Dec 3 · 9:31 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMe

the numbering on the back of the kings jersey can be seen @ http://teamlastore.com/

Dec 3 · 9:47 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterntakaya

I guess this means all the teams in the stadium series will wear uniforms that basically look like each other, except for the colours. Reebok finally gets its template.

Dec 3 · 9:57 AM PST | Registered CommenterJeffB

Guess it is appropriate that 2 California teams dress for a roller hockey matchup. Personally, I would rather see Canucks yellow 1979 'V' jersey vs Blues unreleased 1995 third. At least those are fitting for ICE hockey. To top off how bad these jerseys are, looks like someone rubbed sandpaper all over the Ducks logo (at least in the picture).

Really miss 20 years ago when teams just had 2 jerseys and rarely even wore roads at home and vice versa.

Dec 3 · 9:58 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterSean

I have a hunch that since the Kings announced their jersey unveil, the Ducks followed suit after without a prototype complete. If you look, getzlafs shoulder doesn't even have the stadium series patch on it. Also, as it's been pointed out multiple times, is about 2 sizes to small. No one could play hockey in a jersey that small. If be willing to bet that it was a sample quickly thrown together for this unveil, and the actual jersey will fit and look better.

Dec 3 · 10:01 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndrew Heidecker

Getzy is wearing a retail replica jersey. The C is missing the seriff on the captains patch and the #'s are screen printed as one layer.

Dec 3 · 10:07 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDuckT0nes

LA's looks really nice, but the Ducks' sweater needs a yoke on there. It looks too boring, especially compared to what they normally wear.

Dec 3 · 10:22 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterBrady Suf

I like both of them. I got an 80's throwback feeling on that set. I don't know why, but after so many throwback jerseys I'm used to see that style. Anyway, great set!

Dec 3 · 10:23 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterElMani

I don't understand why Anaheim didn't just do an orange version of their current 3rd.

Dec 3 · 10:28 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterThatGuyInRF

the fake reflective logo is no good but beyond the the kings sweater looks really good. the ducks... well they suck so their jersey should too. go kings!

Dec 3 · 10:29 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterBickleton Wigglesworth III

Getzlaf looks like an old-time hockey player with that moustache and visor-free helmet

Unfortunately, the same can't be said about what he's wearing. These are both equally horrendous.

Dec 3 · 10:38 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterGuy

ducks fan...so dissapointed...they had such a great opportunity to do something so cool gretzky kings mighty ducks whites...ducks 3rd patch front and center anything other than this honestly....they blew a great shot at making something really neat. something super irritating to me too is the ducks captain patch is the same "C" as the font used on the players names.

Dec 3 · 10:40 AM PST | Unregistered Commentertyler

I am not enjoying this chrome thing.

Dec 3 · 10:47 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJim

Really diggin the Kings jersey, I think they got it right. The Ducks jersey on the other hand looks terribly boring. I'm hoping there's some waist stripes or something that we can't see in the video. I will say I'm a little disappointed with Reebok, as you said "painting with the same brush". Would've liked to see more variation. But these are only half the teams, maybe we'll see something different.

Dec 3 · 11:09 AM PST | Registered CommenterMat Ware

Fugly. Both of them.

Dec 3 · 11:11 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterRuss G

Pretty bad unveiling. You can even get a glimpse of the bottom of the jerseys to see the stripes, lets pray there are stripes down there. I'm all for the grey and orange but i'm not feeling the chrome and the stripes. O.C.? don't call it that

Dec 3 · 11:19 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterbob f

Between the two, Kings definitely win this round. I love the grey, and the black shoulders are a great touch to balance the colours out. And I think this is the first grey jersey in the NHL, if I'm not mistaken. Overall, it's a nice mix of old and new elements. - There are some more pics of it on the Kings' website: kings.nhl.com

As for the Ducks, while I like the orange, it's missing quite a lot. It looks more like a very simple jersey, much like the Sharks switched to this season, and it doesn't work. Nice colours, but I don't like the design.

Dec 3 · 11:25 AM PST | Registered CommenterBryan W

the Kings jersey is really nice (apart from the identical striping as the isles jersey).......the ducks jersey is really not nice at all!! and yep by the looks of that pic, getzlaf needs a size 60!!

Dec 3 · 11:26 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJerseyman

I wish the Anaheim jerseys had something going on on the shoulders. I've been enjoying the new shoulder look the Islanders, and now Kings, Stadium jerseys have. Without it they look weird...like a sweater, as one of the other comments suggest. Kind of unbalanced to have the lines on the arms, but then nothing to match on the shoulders. Even their gold on the shoulders would have probably looked better. Similar to the San Jose jerseys this year, really, and how I find that they now look like jammies. I can't tell if these jerseys have waist stripes though. They'll probably have a thin one like the Islanders...or the Kings one will at least.

I'm not sure about the logos either...the chrome thing's weird, but I really need to see them in person to see how they turned out.

Poor Getzlaf...I'm glad I'm not the only one who cringed though. "Hey guys - I forgot my shoulderpads, but the rest of my equipment's here! I still look good, right?" Actually, between the two, it looks like a poster for Superbad 2: Ten years later and we're both in the NHL.

Thank goodness they're both rich and talented.

Dec 3 · 11:34 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMike

No doubt that the Duckingtons have the blandest uniforms in the league, but I think this is a step up from those and it turned out much better than I expected. I like it, but I never thought they could pull off an orange version of this and it's a good effort. Good or bad, 3rd jerseys were meant to be experimental with modern ideas and designs, which is a concept I surprisingly enjoyed for The Stadium Series. Although I really enjoy the vintage stuff, there's a bit too much nowadays and this is refreshing. As much as I want to see the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in OC colours, it's not as fitting and this is the way to go. A+ Kings jersey too!

Dec 3 · 11:49 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterT76G

Not necessarily related to these jerseys, but I noticed last night that the wild had the tie ups on the collars of their jerseys done the same way as these two jerseys and the islanders jerseys as well

Dec 3 · 12:08 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMike

the kings one looks great but the ducks one almost looks like a practice jersey. kind of disappointed in that one.

LA looks awesome, though. can't stress that enough.

i think it will be a very pretty game with the grey vs orange. can't think of too many other color vs color options that would work as well as what these two have lined up.

Dec 3 · 12:11 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterjonathanc

I can't believe what I'm reading on these comments. This is supposed to be a site for people who appreciate original hockey jerseys and can be brutally critical about the smallest details, and yet everyone is loving the Kings jersey. Don't get me wrong, its not that I think it's a bad jersey, but there is just one major issue with it...it's the same jersey as everyone else!!!

Since when are cookie cutter jerseys praised on this site? The Kings jersey is almost absolutely identical to the Islanders jersey just released the other week minus the nameplate, and the Ducks jersey is almost identical to the Kings minus the shoulder yoke. Chrome logo, modern lace up collar, half wrapping diagonal arm stripes, diagonal numbers above, shoulder yoke (if applicable) flaring out at the ends, and I'm only going to assume one thin waist stripe or none at all. I wouldn't be surprised if all three teams had similar pant shells with the diagonal striping as well. This almost reminds me of the NBA Christmas jerseys being released.

Sorry, but I feel like there a big opportunity was missed on this one. Can't wait to see if the Blackhawks and Penguins follow the same template as well.

Dec 3 · 12:15 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterEddie

The photography used does not do any favors for the screen-printed front crests. I'd like to see how they look under different conditions (e.g. a live showing), but right now, I'm not a fan. And while having screen-printed appliques for all of the cresting might make the jerseys a little lighter, it just comes off as looking cheap to me.

Not thrilled with the idea of having the numbers at an angle on the sleeves, either. It just seems like they're overthinking these elements.

All in all, until we get a better look at these things, I'm giving them a big, fat "meh".

Dec 3 · 12:33 PM PST | Registered CommenterRob S

I am disappointed with the Ducks jersey. I was looking forward to the orange, but the jersey is too bland. I've always wished for more orange jerseys and yellow jerseys in pro sports and now that teams are starting to use them, the majority of the teams have screwed them up...(i.e., Sabres 3rd, former Islanders 3rd, Ducks Stadium Series). Jerseys in these colors can look very nice when done properly.

I actually kind of like the Kings jersey. I've spent some spare time over the years creating my own concept jerseys on MS Paint and have used grey several times. It's nice to see it being used here. I also like the crown logo better than the LA pencil tip logo and I like this jersey template better than their current home & roads.

Dec 3 · 12:42 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterAnthony

When are we gonna see the Stadium Series jerseys everyone really wants unveiled... the Hawks and Pens?

Dec 3 · 1:12 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJeff S

Looks like the Ducks jersey also have black side inserts like the orange inserts on their current thirds, but without the other colored stripes surrounding them. In any case, the Ducks jersey is a greater missed opportunity. The logos on the edge jerseys are way too large proportionally. Also, is it my imagination or did RBK change the hem line from a curve to more of a trapezoid shape on the LA jersey? The bottom of the Ducks jersey is not clear both as to any striping or shape.

Dec 3 · 1:13 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterQB

Has anyone else noticed that the arm striping on the Ducks' uniform is opposite of what the Oilers did with their old jersey? In this case it doesn't wrap around underneath the player's arms.

Dec 3 · 1:13 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterScottieA

I'm just amazed they managed to make the grey look decent.

Dec 3 · 1:38 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJ.K.

Really digging the Kings jersey. I probably like it because it uses the actual crown logo as the crest instead of the LA pencil point. Seriously, one of the worst, if not THE worst logo in the NHL. This jersey is definitely better than their pyjama shirts they wear now.
As for the Ducks, they look like they are playing for County Corrections. Really could have used a black shoulder yoke.
