Poll: NHL ASGToL Championship

Polls close Wednesday, November 17 at 11:59 PM

The current Icethetics logo tournament features NHL All-Star Game logos from the past two decades. Read more about the format here.

ASGToL 37

Results will be revealed after the poll closes.

Commenting Feel free to add your comments about the polls below. Keep it short, relevant and friendly. Currently, commenting is unmoderated. Abuse it and commenting will go away. I'd prefer to offer an open discussion but not at the expense of civility. Also, if you choose to announce the logos you've voted for, do it in paragraph form. Comments with long lists will be removed.

By the way, due to my impending relocation, this will be the last tournament probably until the first of the year. At that point, I plan to finally launch an NHL jersey tournament. It will include home and road sweaters, along with alternate uniforms since all of the new ones will have been unveiled by then.

Ottawa Forsure! The incorporation of the Peace Tower into the Star is what pulled my vote. Both Great Logos, Ottawa by the tip of the tower.

Gah! Ottawa's on the left, but the Toronto button's on top!

Nov 10 · 9:12 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterkyojikasshu

That's right. Pay attention.

Nov 10 · 9:30 AM PST | Registered CommenterChris

Toronto for sure! The Ottawa logo is just the cities biggest landmark with All-Star Game written over it. Toronto's logo is so unique and different from everything done before. It also made a great patch that you see on peoples jerseys to this day.

Nov 10 · 9:59 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndrew

I WISH I had that patch on my jersey. Became a Leafs fan a few years too late.

Nov 10 · 10:01 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterGlen

Tough call... In the end the Ottawa logo just seems more professional and classic to me. Almost like it would be a killer secondary.

Nov 10 · 10:32 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAdamEdg

OK dude, this whole pay attention thing is just going to result in a bunch of accidental votes for Ottawa. I see you're trying to make a point, but the final's not the time to be pulling tricks.

Nov 10 · 12:36 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJackFr

Toronto by a huge margin for me

Nov 10 · 2:53 PM PST | Unregistered Commenternathan

Totally agree with Jackfr. I was careful and made sure I voted the way I wanted to - Toronto - but seriously, don't play such dumb pranks that could sway the vote. That's just so un-Chris-like.

Nov 10 · 5:57 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJacques-Andre LeBeau

Why the move? Warm Florida for the rain of Seattle, work shipping ya off that far or left for something new? It was Washington state right, not DC? Don't quite remember.

Nov 10 · 6:23 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

@ ADAMEDG No, anything that remotely has to do with Ottawa or the senators is just absolute rubbish. There is just way too much going on in the Ottawa logo there, kinda like their third jersey). Toronto's on the other hand is simple and to the point... What all good logo's should be.

Nov 10 · 6:27 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterReadBetweenTheLines

@READBETWEENTHELINES try not to let your bias for or against the city determine your vote, its about the logos not the cities right? I couldnt disagree with you less.
IMO, if someone whos not a hockey fan looked at torontos logo, how would they know its an allstar logo? There isnt even a full star, just seemed like some designer mixed a bunch of ideas together. Dont get me wrong, torontos logo is good, but i prefer ottawas.

Nov 10 · 6:54 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBrad

@Brad So why don't we judge who has the best logo by going to Afghanistan and asking someone who has never heard of hockey which logo is for the All-Star game. You're judging the logo purely on function, when the point of a logo is for both function and "icethetic" appeal. Not to mention that the logo was used in the context of an All-Star Game. It's not like these logos would be pasted around the city trying to get people to watch. If that was the case they would write All-Star Game underneath the logo. Honestly, if Ottawa's logo wins, Toronto should make a logo next time with the CN Tower in place of the Peace Tower. Based purely on the actual visual logo, Toronto losing would be the same as the Dallas Stars' script jersey "logo" beating out the Blackhawks or Bruins or something.

Toronto's logo is great - but Ottawa's is a great All-Star logo.

Nov 11 · 9:57 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJim

Toronto's logo reminds me too much of the air canada logo...the air canada centre is the leafs home arena, and was only open for a year at the time of ASG. coincidence...I think not! this logo looks more like an airline advertisement than a logo for an all-star game.

Nov 11 · 4:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterColin

I don't think torontos should win based solely on the fact that it is "icetheticly" pleasing, cause to me its does not serve its function as well as ottawas, and we've all got our own opinion right Andrew.
To me, torontos logo just doesnt seem like its all star logo, as Colin said, it looks more like a corporate logo or something... IMO.

Nov 11 · 5:42 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBrad

The Toronto logo is SOOOO close to being the better one, but there are two things that really irk me. The grey swoop on the right hand side does nothing except scream late 90's/early 2000s corporate logo. The thing that bugs me most is the 2t0r0nt0 though... what they did is clever, but it still just looks like something a 13 year old girl would use as a screen name...

Nov 11 · 6:19 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterSam

Ottawa's look so much more professional and well put together, I honestly don't like the toronto logo at all

Nov 11 · 7:58 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterHarrison

Toronto's logo is crap...you would never even know it was for an All-Star game. That's why Ottawa gets my vote. Great "star" look, classic wordmark. They nailed it.

Nov 12 · 9:40 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDanC

I'd go with the leafs for sure. Gives a great feel just by looking at it

Nov 12 · 7:54 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterScotty

Does no one see the star in the Toronto logo? It's clearly there, maybe even more pronounced than the Ottawa logo.

Nov 12 · 9:22 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterAndrew

I liked Tornoto's logo all the way through this tournament - up until it was placed directly against Ottawa's. Side by side, Toronto's logo does look too corporate, too chintzy, and just does not say "hockey" to me. Sure it is a great logo by its own merits and is exactly the kind of logo one should expect for the year 2000 - it screams new millenium. But it just does not carry the weight of importance as well as the Ottawa logo.
I look at Ottawa's logo and feel that the game is more than a one off event (despite the fact that the All Star Game is a joke) and I know it is a hockey logo. The subtle use of the puck in the design clinches it. Toronto's logo could easily pass for the NBA, MLS, or any other sport. Or even Air Canada...
Ottawa has the kind of logo that would have worked 60 years ago and that will still work 60 years from now. Toronto's logo is stuck at the turn of the millenium. So yeah, I support the logo that seems more timeless, more put together, more appropriate for the sport that we all love.
And I am no Senator's lover. That is for sure.

Nov 13 · 5:47 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAdamEdg

Both are great logos, so some people need to realize that and not think that one of them is bad. Sure, one could say that Ottawa's has too much going on in it, but it still looks fine. And what is with this "Toronto's is too corporate and not all star looking and only good for one year"? It is supposed to be icetheticly pleasing, and it is. Less is more. Toronto's is very simple yet pleasing to the eye, and it hits the nail on the head with the 2T0R0N0T0, it was in the millennium, that was the most clever thing anyone would ever think of for "2000". Every logo is only good for one year, so I don't understand how it is not "timeless" enough. I'm so sure that Ottawa's logo would work in 60 years with 2012 written on it. So there are no excuses on either of them being worse than the other. Both logos are great, and it is good to see the two best all star logos both in the finals. Now lets just hope that everyone pays attention when they vote so that the best logo can win.

Nov 13 · 3:35 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBUREV

Love Ottawa's. It looks really sharp and clean.

Nov 15 · 9:38 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDaniel

I see two excellent logos. The Ottawa logo is more modern with fine details that are not found on older logos. The Toronto logo is simple yet creative. Could they have been designed by the same person?

Nov 15 · 10:19 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Toronto is gonna win I garuntee it

Nov 15 · 5:02 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMatt Defer

I still can't belive Toronto has made it this far. All I see looking at it is the Air Canada logo.
