Love the 8th logo (can't see who created it after I voted...). Looks like a College hockey set which I think nearly always looks good.

My logo features a puck that, with the texture, turns into 13 stripes that make the state of Massachusetts (in red)

I cannot stress how stupid all of these tricornes look...not to mention they were mostly used in military uniforms and not by colonials, but I suppose historical accuracy isn't in the forefront for sports logos. If Patriots or Loyalists were the nickname, I'd understand the design choice a lot more, but I digress.

I think design #9 (must be by Johnny, judging by his comment) is being vastly underrated here. He has made what appears on its surface to be a simple design, but in reality is very clever and multifaceted. That takes immense talent. It is at once a flying puck and also a stylistic interpretation of Massachusetts and its bay. The "C" for Colonials is subtle on the face of the puck, and my only complaint is there appear to be only 12 stars instead of 13, which I would have imagined to represent the colonies.

The wordmark is not quite as impressive but has its own style and could work fine as a shoulder patch/alternate. You seem like you're getting overlooked here, Johnny, so I hope my comment provides some consolation. Great work!

Thanks, Ringo. I was actually trying to do the east coast/cape of Massachusetts in all stars (how the hell did I only use 12?) but the side of the puck worked better.

I really like the simple logo styles - a logo on a chest you see a half rink away and know what it is. Throw in two or three elements per logo. This one has the C, the stars, the puck, the texture of the side, the stripes and the state outline.

It may be basic, but I love the Devils, Flyers, Flames (Calgary and Atlanta), Nordiques, North Stars and, of course, Whalers.

Original Colonials logo should stay IMO, the touched up version is nice but there's something with the face that throws me off. The word mark/font also seems off, almost like its more suited for the Nashville Predators or something? Don't get me wrong though, still a nice set!

I Love the set by Francis Matte and am astonished that it only has around 31% positive as of now.. The color scheme is overused so that could be played with but as a whole it's a great set.

I actually really enjoy the set by Nick Marks but the toonish look is probably why some people don't. Would be a great look for a junior team somewhere.

The set by Mark Morgan is also really sharp, kind of plays with the current logos so it would make for a great "winter classic" jersey.

I would love to see concepts for Matt McElroy's logo

Johnny has some pretty cool ideas overall but I'm just not reading this one. The state of Mass. is just too abstract. Nick Marks Boston terrier needs more consideration. Nice idea! Mark Morgan's Colonial set is very "proud". Sharp design.

The 9th logo might be the most competent logo provided. It's so classic, it reminds me of the logos of the 70s, the Aeros, the Flyers, the Nordiques; very intelligent.

The Breakdown:

Logo 1: The face is wrong.
2: The bird thing is overdone and has nothing to do with Colonials.
3. Looks like it should be on a girl's backpack.
4. The second most competent logo in the bunch.
5. It works. I'd remove the busted tooth and change the color of the red eye.
6. Too much face is missing. With a redo, this could be a great, great logo.
7. No.
8. The logo package is great, but the face is wrong.
9. Unless all the logos should have a this-was-created-in-the-last-3-years feel, this one is the real winner.
10. Some ideas expressed, but it's not complete.
11. Another good try, but not good enough.

Eric Poole. Didn't I see an upgrade of this design on the internet sometime ago? If so why didn't you use it?
I like Scott Robbins toonish design but perhaps a little too busy. The colors need to change in my opinion also.
I think Nick Marks Boston terrier is a unique take on this mascot.
Matt McElroy has some nice designs but its it just me, or does this one look alot like George Washington?

@Brian : Thank you for making me laugh really hard about my own design.
to everyone else, thanks for the positive votes!

How is the first one not considered plaigarism by this site? thats the NE Patriots logo, tweaked a bit, and the colors changed. So the creator, can obviously use the Patriots logo as a starting point, get his logo approved, but a guy that creates a harpoon logo, (that he didnt even know was a flag) gets his his awesome logo cut out for a generic piece of clipart.

I will also say that is the best logo for colonials hands down.

I waited for my post until the end of the week. Let's do the bad first. I'm not a fan of adding an extra color for shading. You design a red and blue logo and add maroon and navy for highlights? Even better - adding dark grey to your light grey base. Aside from the Blue Jackets and new Stars adding beveling, I can't see this as good (Jets have two shades of grey...meh)

What worse? Two-tone words. "The bottom of my letters are shaded." Why? Looks too cheap.

Now the good: Mark's secondary. Matt's secondary (but not primary). If we tipped Johnny's puck to make the side wider, I might see Massachusetts. Might. Nick's feather. Great idea/theme.

Scott Robbin's 2008 design reminds me of the Patriots in Bioshock Infinite

My personal preferences for the Boston Colonials are designs by Eric Poole, Mark Morgan and Matt McElroy.

Poole's redesign is really nice, it modernizes the present look in a way that I think is really solid.

Morgan's look has a bit more traditional look to it, but it works for the franchise given the images it can usually conjure up.

McElroy's design is a nice direction as well, as I dig how the color scheme looks here--it might be red, white and blue, but it's not the traditional ones you'd come to expect, so I like it.
