Preds 3rd Launch Date & More...

Lots to cover tonight so let's dive right in.

The Nashville Predators have revealed their plans for the unveiling of their brand new third jersey. According to the team's web site, the sweater will be introduced on Thursday, September 17.

That night the Preds face the Atlanta Thrashers in an exhibition match at the Sommet Center and fans in attendance will get their first look at the new threads during a pre-game ceremony.

Here's the text pulled from the web page.

Prior to the start of the Sept. 17 game, the Predators new Third Jersey will be revealed in a pre-game ceremony. Players debuting the new jersey will be available for autographs on the main concourse during the first intermission.

If you're there, feel free to snap some photos and send them along. I'm sure everyone here will enjoy seeing them. Thanks to Paul for pointing out this new information.

To recap earlier news, it sounds like the third jersey will make its regular season debut sometime in November. Team owner David Freeman says it has a traditional look based on some Original Six teams. And back in July, a fan claiming to have seen the sweater, posted a description online which was followed up by a concept rendering.

Now onto the Boston Bruins.

This story may turn out to be nothing, but I got several emails so I thought I'd share it. A new video on NHL.com featuring Tim Thomas appears to show a retro-looking Bruins sweater we've never seen before.

Could it be a sneak peek at their new Winter Classic threads? Take a look at this screenshot and judge for yourself.

Sneak peek at Bruins Winter Classic sweater?

It's the yellow one there in the equipment bag. It's tough to say but it certainly isn't out the question. Like I said, I'll let you guys make up your own minds about its legitimacy. Feel free to discuss.

The design will be officially unveiled a week from tonight at the Bs' State of the Bruins event.

My final piece of news for the night is sort of a follow-up to Wednesday's late night post regarding the classic Buffalo Sabres logo continuing to appear at center ice. It's good news for fans who've been awaiting the imminent death of that awful yellow logo which debuted in 2006.

The final nail in the coffin may have come straight from the mouth of Buffalo bigwig Larry Quinn early today. Icethetics reader Kevin wrote in today with this report.

Hey Chris,

Larry Quinn, managing partner of the Buffalo Sabres was on Leafs Lunch with Bill Watters on AM 640 Toronto today. He let slip that the Sabres are migrating to wearing the retro sweaters full time. Audio isn't up on the website yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. Thought you'd like to know. Goodbye Buffaslug!

Kevin

I'm sure you guys can keep an eye (ear) out for that but it is certainly positive news. I think we'd all be better of if they just listened to John Slabyk in the first place. But we should all be grateful for the little victories where we can get them.

That's all for tonight.

All I can say is Hello Yellow!

Haha, if the sweater leaked in the Thomas video is correct, then I may have been ahead of my time when I suggested that one on Puckdrawn. From what i can see, it looks like the 1958-1959 yellow jersey, as seen here. http://nhluniforms.com/Bruins/Bruins16.html

There is a very good chance you are seeing one of Boston's yellow practice jerseys.

Chris, I'll try to get some shots of the Preds 3rd when I'm up there on Thursday. Hopefully someone will be there with something better than a camera phone.

Woops, forgot to say that the logo on the Bruins jersey looks different than the current logo.

thats not what the practice jerseys look like

There's a good chance that that may be the Winter Classic jersey. From the recent standards in using a combination of past elements for the W.C, this jersey would be a combo of the first spoked-B logo in Bruins history - the one they wore for their 25th anniversary in 1949 - and the gold jersey that started in the late 50s and went through a couple variations. We'll find out next week!

Why would Thomas have the outdoor game jersey in his gear bag? I could understand if it was equipment, as that has to be broken in so a player is comfortable wearing it in a game, but a jersey?

Sep 10 · 6:47 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJason

Yes Adam.... this logo in the gym bag looks like the '48-'49 version which celebrated their anniversary. Not really crazy about when they combine sweaters to make one..... but I'm sure it will look nice. Definately different.

I thought the whole idea of the WC was to don a 'real' jersey from the team's early inception.
Are we changing THIS tradition already, Boston??

Sep 10 · 6:51 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterbwayblueshirt

well Chicago's jersey was a combo of one jersey from one year and a logo from another, and i think Detroit's was similar, maybe just slightly modernized D logo? Anyways, the Bruins wouldnt be the first to do it this way.

Sep 10 · 6:58 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterAdam

Ok, Chicago took the Indian logo from the 47-48 jersey and placed it on the tan/black 35-37 jersey.
The only reason I could see for them doing this was to be politically correct and not 'offend' anyone, as the face on the 35-37 jersey was RED. We've all heard that argument through the years!

As far as Detroit goes..... the WC jersey is exactly like the 26-27 Detroit Cougars. They only added the 'winged wheel' shoulder patches, probably to homage that very long standing logo.

Still think original is better. Wanna tweak jerseys? Save it for the alternates.
Baseball gets it right when they do a 'turn back the clock' event.

Good news all around. The preds "traditional" third sound like a breath of fresh air.
The bruins in a yellow sweater that isn't Poohbear is a huge plus (it doesn't have to be an authentic retro uniform, just look good)
The death of the buffaslug is going to be great, i just hope they de-reebok the uniform of the vertical piping and armpit patches and make it look like the early 90's.

it makes no sense for tim thomas to have a jersey for the winter classic game.

Sep 10 · 8:17 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterdave

My bet is the Bruins use their 25th anniversary logo, but instead of "24 B 49" it says "24 B 09" that marks 75 years in Beantown for the Bru-Crew. Slap it on a Yellow jersey from the '50s or '60s and call it good. It is curious that Tim-Thom has one in his bag though, maybe it was placed there to tease us?
I am thinking that the Pred's jersey will end up looking like the second rendering posted before, but the lines will be moved away from the bottom of the hem and sleeves, moved up if you will. I also bet that the checkered design ends up being more visible than previously thought, and the White stripes will have Silver trim to them that were hard to see.

The Sabres have announced that they will switch the the classic logo before this. it was last year that they said that they will switch on the teams 40th anniversary (next year).

that looks like the leaked Bruins jersey to me. guess we'll have to wait and see.

i agree with Glen, what we can see in that grainy image when compared to the link provided certainley looks very similar.

Sep 10 · 10:00 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterIceman

It looks to me like that the bruins "jersey" is the design of Thomas' bag. It doesn't even look like a jersey once you've looked at it that way.

Sep 10 · 10:42 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterwukwinn

all i can say, coming from a sabres fan, is it is ABOUT time....even though everyone knew that the third jersey would soon become the home jersey full time (with a white version on the way?)....but i am very glad to see this finally happening.

Sep 10 · 10:52 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenternick

It really is about god damn time the Sabres went to the original logo full time. It's a crest to be proud of. It carries history with it. The Sabres' Winter Classic jerseys looked fantastic, and I was proud as a Sabres fan to see my team wearing a jersey that had some heritage.

Sep 10 · 11:16 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJohnny

Awwww! I was hoping they would do a brown jersey. Kind of like this... http://www.nhluniforms.com/Bruins/Bruins04.html

Oh well, at least they incorporated yellow!
The logo is a rework of the one shown here... http://www.chriscreamer.com/logo.php?id=6515

I'll save my views on it until it is properly unveiled.

2009 marks 85 years of the Bruins in Boston.

Link, I'll be at the Preds game as well... Like you, I'll have my camera phone but I'm hoping they turn out well.

About the Boston Jersey.

I don't think it would be all that hard to think Tomas would have that jersey with him. If plans are that they will show it off soon he could have been getting ready to do a photo shoot.it looks like the jersye has just be place on his bag. it not like it was hanging up any where. To keep it away from the news and public it would be easy to just bring them to the players for the shoot if they hung them up people might have take photo of them already and spoil the surprise.
