The Oilers logo is clearly one of the best WHA logos of all time. How can anyone not see that?
I looked at the Hawks logo and then i looked at the Oilers logo...I picked the Hawks because to me it looked better...did i do something wrong?

Oh great. Now we're going to get into the argument as to which was the best logo in the WHA. I think both the Chicago Cougars and Blackhawks logo are better than the Oilers. And no, I'm not a fan of either...just an admirer of their uniforms.
When did Chicago get a team? Did the NHL expand during the off season.
Why is it that all the new teams have such useless logo's.
I will have to go with the Oilers on this one
Sorry to the Chi fans but your arrogant and insulting comments above are a disgrace to all true Hockey fans.

Are you serious cause if you are you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near NHL hockey. The hawks were founded in 1926 and are part of this thing called the original six and are one of the founding members of the NHL. And to everyone who says its racist, the team isn't named after a group of indians, do a little research morons. And to those who don't see the specialty in the hawks uniforms, especially you oilers fans, take a look at your jersey's and tell me what they have in common with the hawks. The horizontal stripes on the bottom and arms of your jersey, where do you think they got that idea.
To the comment above
Do you really think I was serious lol
The Chicago logo is just plain Terrible
That is why so many non Oiler fans are still left with no choice at all but to vote for the superior design
and the vote tally is a reflection of that. pure and simple
I think that this should not be about history, it's about which logo you like. As far as history goes, both teams are full of history. The Oilers are reprsentative of Alberta's oil industry and the Oil Kings that played back in the early days in the WHL. As for the Blackhawks, the represent a military battalion which was named after a native chief. This should be about which logo looks better, plan and simple. Don't base this on anything else, just which looks better. This whole thing is pointless, this is not statistically accurate at all and should be just taken in good fun because no logo is better than another. And quit saying it's racist or that one team copied another's layout because that is petty. Grow up people!
These posts are killing me with laughter. My favorite ones are the ones against the Hawks logo because it is too "busy" or to "complicated" and "not simple enough" like the Oilers. Hahahahahahaha It's an Indian head!! That's all it is!!! Woooooaaa how complicated and busy.
hahahahahaha some of you guys kill me.
I'm voting Blackhawks only because the excuses used in favour of the Oilers logo have been rediculas and don't make sense. And no I am not a Hawks fan.
Since I'm a Blackhawk fan, I voted for the Blackhawks logo. If we can't beat you on the ice, we'll beat you in the logo competition.
As a person of Indian decent, I think the Blackhawk's name and logo are racist.
By Indian decent I mean that my family comes from the country of India and fans of the Blackhawks and the NHL only add to the racism of stealing the true meaning of the word Indian. As a group Indians are much more prevalent in this country than Native Americans so it is about time ignorant Americans stop confusing the two cultures.
I mean there is a reason Native Americans are put onto reservations while Indian Americans are probably the most prominent and intelligent Americans on average.
Referring to any logo of a Native American as an indian or indian head is racist and it disgraces me and my family and country. It is about time people wise up and have the name Blackhawks changed as well as the logo abolished.
Thank you,
Chilly Willy

He also wrote: "As a person of Indian decent" and "By Indian decent I mean that my family comes from the country of India..."
Ummmm, the word you are looking for is "descent."

In order to avoid being racist, I'll assume your arrogance and ignorance is not representative of other East Indians.
Hey Chilli Willy
You don't speak on behalf of all of us who are of aboriginal decent. Your opinions are welcomed though as always and I do respect them so please respect mine with an open mind aswell.
I am of Blackhawk nation and I will tell you my views on the logo. not only do I not find it racist or offensive I find it spiritual and awakening. I am proud of my heritage and I celebrate the word Blackhawk and the image of the Indian head when I gaze upon it. The word Blackhawks is not racist nor is that logo which represents my heritage fairly well.
Yes it is only a sports logo. And yes I do know the history on why the team was named Blackhawks so everyone can save their breath about it not being to bring homage to the Blackhawk nation. However due to the large Blackhawk population in the Chicago area I still respect the idea of the name and logo.
Also I do consider myself as Indian as I do aboriginal, native. The P.C. movement in North America has become too much. I take no offense when someone calls me Indian I take no offense at all.
Now if the team was called redskins...that's a different story. As that is derogatory and racist. The word Blackhawks and that logo IS NOT. And by saying the word Blackhawks and that logo is racist is to disrespect my heritage in my opinion.
Just a little something for everyone to think about from the other side of the debate.
People are we a little slow today? For the second time...
"Descent" = referring to one's ancestry. 'I am of aboriginal descent'.
"Decent" = referring to something that's alright. 'The weather was decent today.'
For the record, I think the word "Indian" is used improperly way too often. I'm with the people of India on this one.
Just look at the two logos. Which do you think had more effort put into it? Hmm...Let's think here.
The Blackhawks with their colorful head with feathers compared to a circle with "Oilers" written on it with a drop of oil coming from the top. Crazy how you people say the Oilers have a better logo. About 45% of the people who voted for Edmonton must be children who don't know any better. This is a logo contest, not a vote for your favorite team contest.
I have had it up to here with these condescending comments. You know who put the work into the Oilers logo? Gulf Oil. You know why their original colours were blue and orange? Because Gulf Oil was supporting them financially. Why? Because Edmonton's biggest industry is oil. And a lot of work and thought was put into it by the people concerned with it at the time (around 1972).
The smiling logo of the Oilers is a heartwarmer. The shrunken head on Chicago's jersey is overdone, busy, and ugly. But what's uglier is the way Hawk fans have come on here, time after time, and insulting Oiler fans by calling them names because they disagree with them.
Oil logo for the win.
They deleted my post because I admited to voting for the Oilers logo more than 20 times.
hahahahahah this contest is a sham and they are trying to cover that up.
OILER RULE!!!!

Hi there, "anonymous." Just wanted to let you know that I deleted your comment because I felt you were being offensive. There's really no call for that here. We're all just trying to enjoy ourselves.
I don't mind how many times you vote. Like I've said, the Tournament is just something to pass the time. You should have fun with it.
And there's no "they" here. It's just me. Hope you're enjoying the blog and the tournament. If you've got nasty comments, I'd appreciate it if you could keep them to yourself or post them somewhere else. Thanks!
it's pretty obvious by the results here that #1 people are only voting for their team and not the actual logo, and #2 oilers fans have too much free time.
it's pretty obvious by the results here that #1 some people are having delusions about their team's logo, and #2 there are a lot of sore losers in chicago.

Actually it's pretty obvious that plenty of Canadians are blind to the worst aspects behind the dated thinking surrounding logo design in the 1970's. It's a miracle their team isn't named the Edmonton Oil.
It's also painfully obvious that the children voting here have no idea who was Black Hawk, a real person and a fearless warrior who dared lead a band of Sauk Indians in a seemingly hopeless cause to reclaim ancestral lands lost to white settlers back in the 1830s.
Anyone dumb enough to suggest it's racist to honor this warrior with a team name should have their voting privileges revoked for demonstrating excessive ignorance. And finally...
I now realize the silliest Canadians think a solitary fence post in the middle of an empty snow-covered field looks "busy" too. You people make me laugh.
Chris
You deleted my post because I was offensive?
All I said was that the Oilers were the only team that counts in this league and that as the city of champions we will once agian sit atop in yet another contest that crowns the best. And that i like everyon e else in here was voting for my favorite team and not on the logo. How is that offensive?
Oiler are Canadas Team and the team of North America PERIOD!!! I voted Oilers for the 34th time!!!!
i think some people are confused, VOTE FOR THE LOGO. I think its cool that chief blackhawk was a fearless warrior but were not voting on the best "meaning of a team name" its the logo were voting on, OILERS FTW

You know what you said. But it's all right, just don't expect me to leave it there. My blog, my rules. See if you can get to 100 by the end of the day. That's a challenge.

You think a dripping oil can makes a better logo than a real-life Indian warrior?
I'm learning more about Canadians with every silly post...

Here goes another fan personifying the logo he likes to try and make a point. How can you attempt to present yourself as being neutrally-subjective then make such a biased comment like that.
Come on!
