What is it with logos including/comprised of the letter "C" doing so well in this tournament?
Wow. I must have pretty different taste than a lot of people. There were 8 match ups where my vote was part of the majority. Granted, I did like the Flames' "pedestal" sweater, but I didn't think my taste in crests and sweaters was that different.
it was hard picking between the sens and caps since they both suck. in the end i had to go with the sens since, well, its an actual logo. same thing with the stars/ducks

I think there should be a tournament of logos for Olympic logos. I don't mean hockey but i mean host city logos. There could be a winter Olympics then summer Olympics poll and at the end they could face of to see what city had the best host city logo ever.
Wow... I'm impressed that the Sharks logo managed to tie with the Orca!
And this week, we have the Battle of the Bottom Feeders in both conferences! Although with Tampa Bay's strong showing last week, they pulled into a tie with Carolina (although the 'Canes logo does have one win to TB's zero). I think the 'Slug's on its last legs (or lack thereof)....
I am surprised by some of the results. (Rangers over Islanders? A cartoon penguin over a classic iconic leaf?) Almost as if people were voting for their favorite team instead of the better logo. I hope I'm wrong about that, it would render this whole tournament void. Maybe my tastes are just that different.
kinda sad that the 3 best logos in the league in my opinion are all gonna be outside the west's top 4 come next monday. that wild logo is amazing with all of the little extra touches, but it wont get through because it was made in the last 20 years, unlike detroit, chicago, montreal, the rangers, philly and boston. and because it isnt the logo for the city which is casting many of the votes. i am not saying canuck fans are all voting for the canucks logo, some of you are smart and recognize that it isnt really very good at all.
How is Boston beating Philadelphia so bad? As far as logos go, the Flyers have it all- history, city (the letter P), and team name (it's flying, isn't it?) Where's the Bruin in Boston's logo? (please don't give me any of the "Hub of the East" stuff, this is a LOGO COMPETITION!) the same goes for EDM vs. DET.
@ty I am a Leafs fan and I voted for the cartoon penguin over the "classic iconic" Leafs logo. There is NOTHING classic and iconic about that logo. Go back to the 60's if you want to see a classic iconic leafs logo.

The toughest choice for myself was Buffalo v Tampa; which do dislike less? I am pleased to hear the announcement of the Sabres going with their 3rd's as their new home jersey next year, thus pouring salt on the slug. I still dont understand how ownership let that one out.
And I was surprised at how much I actually like the Islanders logo when studying it. And surprised at how boring the Maple Leafs logo looks when it is white with blue letters.
How could anyone pick the Penguins Logo???????????????????????????????????????????

Because it's a Penguin for a team called the Penguins, looks good and goes well with the triangle in the background. They could obviously do better but they could definitely do worse.

How the hell is the hot mess that is the panthers logo winning 2:1 over the Canes? Perhaps I'm biased in favor of the canes, but I've always maintained that the panthers logo was blah at best.
There certainly are some matchups of two crap teams this week though. Tampa and Buffalo? Pens Leafs? Ducks Stars?
You're all crazy, the Flyers logo is hands down the best logo in the NHL or in all sports for that matter!
@ Bill: Perhaps in the NHL, but not all of sports. It will have to fight another Philly team (the Eagles) for that title.

I'm a Kings fan but I'm really not in love with the logo. It's too angular and shapey. I wish they'd go back to the classic crown or think of something new.
The Leafs logo is iconic and symbolizes hockey in Canada. BUT, as a logo, it sucks. When thinking about creativity it is seriously lacking anything special. People need to remember that this is picking the BEST logo NOT picking your favorite team. Hardest ones this week were Pens/Caps and Isles/Rangers. That Ducks logo makes me laugh. Is it supposed to be a ducks webbed foot? Terrible in every aspect. Tampa, enjoy this win. The ONLY logo you can beat is the Buffaslug.

ok, so true, I am a die hard Flyers fan, which is one reason i love the logo, but I am being biased. If i'm a flyers fan, that means i hate the penguins and devils.....but honestly I like those logos too, they're amongst some of my favorite logos in the NHL. So at least I'm being fair.
Panthers logo is way too busy and incredibly mediocre. They need something with character.
Why pick the Pens logo? It's a penguin on a triangle holding a hockey stick with some gloves from the 50s
I agree. The pens logo is a joke if you ask me.
Just curious, what would all the Penguin-haters think of that logo if it was back to the old yellow? Does the Vegas Gold turn you off?
The Panthers logo is one of the best, in my biased opinion! It shows exactly what the real animal is, has it pouncing, and has a unique trio of colors. Yes, they are my favorite team, but the logo is simple and perfect. By comparison, the Canucks, Sabres, and Canadiens are ones I completely dislike. Modern or traditional, all three are so flawed in how they describe their team name. Killer whales, yellow buffalos, and an H in a C? sorry, try again.

Capitals = Wordmark? meh.
Senators = 90s highschool style. Too busy.
Flyers = Perfect. Don't touch it. This has to be in my top 3.
Bruins = Great logo, classic, but has nothing to do with bears, which bugs me.
'Canes = Hate this logo. Hartford had the greatest logo ever, and then this?? Needs a reboot!
Panthers = Again meh. See Senators.
Sabres = I want to step on it. No explanation needed.
Lightning = Not the best, but I'm fond of the old circle logos. There IS actually lightning in it.
Penguins = Say no to cartoons and animals with hockey equipment.
Leafs =Creative, no. Font, lame. But it is one of the most recognizable logos in sports for a reason- its simple clean and symmetrical.
Islanders = A little busy, but again, I like the old circle logos. Its a classic, dont touch it.
Rangers = Boring. The rangers have so many good options, so why? This isn't even their primary (jersey) logo.
Red Wings = Great logo. Its red & has a wing, nods to Detroit. I can't fault it, though I hate the Wings.
Oilers = This is a great example of the classic circle logo too. I love the wordmark inset. Dead giveaway to the era the team was founded in.
Avalanche = I don't see why everyone loves it so much. I also don't know why I dislike it so much. Too cartoony perhaps, or maybe its the skewed symmetry.
Jackets = Has the same thing going as the Aves logo, but pulls it off better. It does the job.
Ducks = We love to hate it, but yknow if they straitened it up rethought the color-scheme, it wouldn't be that bad. Whats wrong with a little symmetry for petesake?
Stars = ALMOST a good logo, but ends up boring. Give it a few tweaks or ditch it. When your logo's a star, you have options.
Kings = See my earlier post. My favorite team but the stylized crown leaves me cold :(
Sharks = Grumble grumble... animals... hockey equipment... grumble grumble.
Coyotes = It has that high school mascot quality too, but still looks good. Perhaps a little too modern (3D) for my tastes. (uniforms are spot on though).
Blackhawks = You have to look past the tradition to really see this logo for the busy parade of colors that it is, but it works, because they aren't trying to pull off a 3D thing. Also: tradition.
Preds = Hate it. Way too complicated with all the worst about the highschool mascot style has to offer. Reboot.
Blues = Another perfect logo. Maybe not as visually pleasing as the Flyers', but it can hardly be improved.
Thashers = See Sharks. Plus, it looks like the Tasmanian Devil chasing an eagle head. Reboot but you can keep the unique border shape.
Flames = Really can't be improved upon, and has great flexibility. Font or color adjustment? No problem.
Wild = Fantastic logo, though I wish it had one less color going on. Exceptionally creative. Supposed to be ambiguous, but I always imagine it as a wolverine, anyone get that from it?
Canadiens = Let em have their crazy H in the C. They DO have a reason for it. Almost reminds me of a bank logo tho.
Devils = I love it. A perfect logo. At least as good as Hartford's.
Canucks = I really don't like the orca logo. Unless they change themselves to the Orcas, they should bring back the rink-C as the primary. They haven't had a better one to date (the skate?)
NO WAY is the Rangers logo better than the Islanders!
The circular Isles crest is classic and incorporates a lot of what the Islesare.
The Rangers shield does nothing for me.
People really need to know what they are talking about... The Pens logo is just fine and describes the team for what it is. Plus the triangle is to represent the the 3 rivers: Allegheny River, Monongahela River, Ohio River. The Downtown area between the rivers is known as the Golden Triangle.
Also, for those of you who don't know, the "H" in the Canadiens logo stands for "Habs" for "Les Habitats de Montreal" so the "H" is justified and makes the logo unique and among the best in hockey.
Also to TY, I think you just like to use the word "symmetry"... A logo does not have to be totally symmetrical to be great or iconic. The Aves have by FAR the best modern made logo of the bunch! The use of an A to be made to look like a mountain is awesome and the avalanche to form the cross of the A was well done as well... Not to mention the great colour scheme!
Sorry if I offend anyone but I don't really see what is so great about the Habs logo.
I'm not sure if this is right Jimbo but I've read before that the H in the Canadiens logo stands for hockey as in le Club de hockey Canadien, the teams official name.

Right. To clarify, maybe I should have used balance instead of symmetry. Anyway you can probably tell what I mean, even if you like the Ave's logo. Its that perspective-scew that gets me. I know its clever, remember I said I'm not really sure why I don't like it. While its not the worst of the 'modern' logos, I think Pheonix has the best.
Maybe the Panthers logo is winning over the Canes logo because it doesn't look like a toilet being flushed.

I have heard that before as well, but am not so sure... I mean the nickname "Habs" is heard just as much as Canadiens. I mean the H makes perfect sense to show and understand where the "Habs" could of came from. Also, in most historical readings your going to find it stated that the H is for Habs and since this history is written by actual hockey historians I am going to bet it's real meaning is for Habs. Or maybe it's origins did mean hockey and after time took on a new meaning... ?

I will follow TY's lead and give my opinion of all the logos. But that is the thing here, remember these are opinions and we all have different ones and we all have different reasons for liking different logos. I judge the logos purely for their looks. I don't care about history or whether it matches the city. It should match the team name somewhat though, but even that is not really a huge deal in my opinion. And my personal idea of good looks can be summed up in one word - simple. I like simple logos that can pretty much be drawn by hand. I think they look great on a Hockey jersey and if a kid can draw it in class to show their team loyalty, that is a great thing.
Also, just so you all know, I am a Canucks fan and I won't deny a bias. It is impossible to not have at least a little bias for your favorite team.
Capitals = Strange that I don't like wordmarks much, but for some reason this one works for me. Maybe because of how it goes with the jersey.
Senators = I don't hate this as much as most. It's not great, but not bad.
Flyers = Agree with TY here. Perfect. Don't touch it.
Bruins = Although this meets my idea of "simple", it is just a fricken B with spokes around it. I still don't think it's a bad logo, just not as great as it is made out to be.
'Canes = Horrible. Just horrible. Looks like a toilet flushing.
Panthers = This one goes against my idea of "simple" yet I don't hate it. By no means do I like it a lot, but I don't hate it.
Sabres = Yuck. Please go back to the circular logo. That one was nice.
Lightning = Don't like it. It is just strange. If they were to use just a simple lightning bolt I might be happy. Although I would have to see it to know for sure.
Penguins = Don't know why people like it. Sure it matches the team name, and sure it has the triangle for the city, but as mentioned above, I don't care. It is ugly. Just like their power blues (I know I am in a very small minority on that opinion)
Leafs = Like it a lot. And I hate the leafs. It is clean and simple. Just like I like a logo. And it goes perfect with their blue jerseys. Again I am in the minority in loving those plain jerseys of theirs.
Islanders = It's pretty good. I don't love it, but I don't hate it. I wouldn't change it if I was them though.
Rangers = Not sure what to say. A little boring. But I also don't like the lady liberty one most people seem to like so much.
Red Wings = This is the best logo in the league in my opinion. Sure it may not be extremely easy to draw by a kid, but it is still pretty simple and I like the single colour. And it goes great with their jersey. A perfect logo. And as a note, I hate this team.
Oilers = Pretty good. A simple oil drop. And although I don't like wordmarks much, it works here.
Avalanche = Like TY, I don't see why everyone loves it so much. I can't stand this logo. And I am not sure why. But it is just ugly to me.

Ducks = Again agreeing with TY. I don't know why everybody hates on it so much. Not to say I like it so much. But that is mainly because of the colour scheme. Change up the colours and I actually think this is a pretty good logo.
Stars = Don't like this at all. Mostly because of the wordmark. Your team is the stars. This is easy. Just use a fricken star. Like the Dallas Cowboys, but with a different style.
Kings = Not too crazy about it. Is there any way to make a simpler crown? Not sure. But unlike a lot of people, I do prefer this to their old gold crown logo. That was just way too busy.
Sharks = Why do people like this? I have seen some good concept logos for sharks that beats this by miles. I think with a name like the sharks they can do a lot better.
Coyotes = I like it. Not a total favourite, but I do like it. A HUUUUGE upgrade over their old one that's for sure. That was in my opinion the worst logo (and jersey) in history of the league. And as a side note, their jerseys are perfect in my opinion as well. I love them. Too bad they are going to add a horizontal stripe next year. Not terrible, but not an improvement to me.
Blackhawks = Tradition be damned. This is a horrible logo. It's only saving grace is that it goes pretty well with their jerseys. But it waaay too busy. This is the most overrated logo in my opinion.
Preds = Not a fan of this logo. Too complicated.
Blues = Perfect. But I don't like their jerseys and I hate their third logo. Put this logo on their third jersey and me likey.
Thashers = Aweful. Nuff said.
Flames = Good logo. And I hate saying that cause I absolutely hate the flames. At least their jerseys suck.
Wild = Don't get why people like it so much. Yes, I see the bear head and the "Wilds" within it. But I don't like the look of it. And really, their Christmas colour scheme probably has a lot to do with it. Their colour scheme is eeew.
Canadiens = I'm gonna say it. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. This logo is boring and waaaaaaay overrated. Sure it has history, and actually the Habs are probably my third favourite team (second is whoever plays the flames), but come on. It's a C with an H. But like the hawks, it does look good on their jersey. I love their actual jerseys.
Devils = Perfect logo. Love it. Don't need to say more.
Canucks = Ahh yes. My own team. This is where I may show some bias, but I don't hate it. Honestly, I like the Orca better than their old skate logo. That whole yellow era really was disturbing for me as a fan. So when they introduced the Orca, I was pissed off because it represented the owners Orca Bay. However, aesthetically, I was happy that the skate was gone and that the yellow was gone. However, all that being said, they have a fricken awesome logo in the stick in rink. I love it because of its simplicity and it looks good on a jersey. Their third jerseys are their best right now because of this. However, I love the striping pattern of their regular jerseys. So if they just removed the logo and wordmark from their regular jerseys and slapped their third (or their original) logo on it, I would be ecstatic that my team would have one of the best logo/jersey combos in the league (again, my probably biased opinion).

This thread got me thinking. We all have our opinions on how well a logo does its job. After the ToL is complete, what about adding a rating system to your new Yearbook feature (similar to what you have on the jersey galleries)? That would be the perfect place for it.
Ideally we could even rate each logo based on a few factors and then the overall score would appear in the rating stars next to the logo. Something like:
* Design (Creativity/Aesthetics)
* Representation (City/Nickname/Sport)
* Color Scheme
* History (or not)
There's a reason the Panthers have never changed their logo. There's really nothing wrong with it.
I like the Panthers logo but it just needs a tiny bit of tweaking.

I just read your rules on commenting after I posted. I will now apologize for my long list which is apparently against the rules.
Sorry bout that. But at least it was civil (maybe not if you are a flames fan).
Here is my list.
1.) Ana- Cool for a word mark but not great for a jersey. Lose the black and add green!
2.) Atl- God aweful! Can't say anything good about it, right up to it's awkward shape. Way too busy!
3.) Bos- Awesome colours, nice clean look and the B in the hub works well for the city.
4.) Buf- Needs to go back to the original.
5.) Cal- Among my top favs! Could go with or without the back though.
6.) Car- Not a fan... Agree with nathan! I look at it and shortly after have an urge to take a leak.
7.) Chi- Very good logo! Goes against my idea of clean and simple but somehow works so well.
8.) Col- Another fine logo! It's clever, but not to clever and keeps an essence of simplicity. Also great colour scheme.
9.) CBJ- Decent logo... Describes the team and state to a tee. Again, clean and simple goes a long way with me.
10.) Dal- Not in any way a bad logo but not phenomenal. Suits the "Lone star state" well. Great colours... Need new jerseys though.
11.) Det- Perfect logo! Describes the city and team name flawlessy... The wheel and wing seem to give this logo a harmonic balance unlike no other.
12.) Edm- Good clean logo, not much to pick on here. Works for me.
13.) Flo- Could take it, or leave it... Yet that is how I feel about the entire franchise. But a decent logo at best.
14.) L.A- Meh, it's alright... It's the best they have to date. Drop the purple and go back to the silver and black!
15.) Min- Strong design, clever and unique! Just drop some of the colours because it makes it to busy.
16.) Mon- Don't care for the team much, but a nice logo! Simple, understated and somewhat quirky due to it's addition of an "H". Can also never go wrong with Bleu-Blanc-et-Rouge.
17.) NSH- Not a fan at all. I thought a saber- toothed tiger was a prehistoric animal? Not some hybrid, bionic, futuristic looking cat? Far too busy!
18.) NJD- Amazing logo! Again, clever, but not too clever. It's sharp and again SIMPLE! Looks just as good on a jersey as well... Need not change!
19.) NYI- Good colours and almost as understated as it gets (like most N.Y logos). It's not a super strong design but I am yet to see anything better to be the image for this franchise.
20.) NYR- Hate the Rangers like a rainy day! As for their logo, it's a classic... I guess. Don't care for it much at all and felt lady liberty was the best logo to ever come out of New York.
21.) Ott- Hate the sens and don't much care for this logo. Go back to a 2D design because this one is lacking... All in all, could take it or leave it.
22.) Phi- Another flawless logo! Very abstract and unique... Arguably the best in hockey. Untouchable!
23.) Phx- Decent logo... Nothing great or negative about it. Pleasing colours however.
24.) Pit- Good logo. Says it how it is... I also enjoy the Vegas gold. Pretty much another classic!
25.) SJ- Very cool logo! Better since the RBK edge era... Very sleak, powerful design with a great colour scheme. Two thumbs up!
26.) STL- Instant classic! Very cool and without a doubt within my top 3 choices for best logo in the game.
27.) TB- Good colours and a sharp look. Not a whole lot to it but guess that's why it gains my acceptance.
28.) Tor- Simple, symmetrical, iconic, and clean. Most might disagree with me but it is in my opinion a fine logo... Remember folks, it's all about the simple things in life!
29.) Was- As far as wordmarks go, I like this one! Looks good on a jersey combined with that immaculate "Weagle" logo and I admire how they went back with the Caps vintage look!
30.) Van- Finally, my team! I don't mind the Orca whale too much, but I started watching hockey as a tike in the early 90's and have a warm spot in my heart for the "Flying skate" logo. It has been the teams longest running logo and the team has had it's best runs with that logo as well. I have NEVER liked the "stick n rink" logo... However I love the jersey design and colour scheme. My solution is the nucks should take the skate logo and add the colours of the stick n rink... Now to me that spells SUCCESS!

The "H" in the Canadiens logo does stand for "Hockey" in Club de Hockey Canadiens. The blue outline making a C stands for Club, the red inside forming a C stands for Canadiens and the H for Hockey.

I must say, I am SHOCKED that the Flyers logo is not beating Bostons...
I've always found it sorta funny that if you look closely at the left side of the Flyers logo and at the right side of the Bluenote you can see that they both actually look somewhat similar to each other and they both were made in the same year

What are you people smoking to even THINK the Flyers logo comes close to being cool??!?!? I wanna fall asleep from how drab and pointless that logo is. However, if you're going for something that reflects perfectly on the team, then you've hit the nail on the head.... :P
BEST LOGOS are the Wings (perfect amalgamation of the city with the team name,) Avs, Wild, and to a lesser degree, the Blues.
Teams that need to adopt their SHOULDER PATCHES as primary logos, and then they'll be ok: Canucks, Capitals, Blackhawks, Bruins, Hurricanes, Sharks
CRAPPIEST LOGOS: (besides Philly,) Panthers, Predators, Penguins, Coyotes, Senators (something about uber-literal logos annoys me.)
