Tournament Notes The Saints edged out the Steel in the final week of voting to nab the coveted 4th playoff spot in the North Division by a mere three points. ... Scroll down to vote in this week's set of standalone bonus polls.
Tie-breaking Since the playoff format is not points-based, the winning logo will be determined by the total number of votes received rather than the percentage. In the unlikely event of an exact tie, a 24-hour run-off poll will be held the following day. (This will shorten the subsequent round of voting by one day.)
BONUS LOGO POLLS
Polls: Rebranded NHL Franchises
Notes This set of polls will only feature teams that have undergone true rebrands. Minor logo modifications a la Tampa Bay, Ottawa, San Jose, etc. will be featured next week.

The Sens primary logo now (2007-present) vs the Sens old primary profile (1992-2007) would not classify, in my opinion, as a "minor logo modification" It was a huge jump. I suppose the transition logo was the old 3D version on the old red 'toga' jerseys, which the current primary is based off of. It should be right up there along with the Penguins in this week's poll.
Gotta disagree, Nev. I'll be using the old Sens logo that was on the red jersey up against the current logo next week. But even if I were to use the "2D" version, it wasn't a complete rebranding effort. The colors stayed the same and the logo was still essentially a face in a circle. Doesn't really compare to the change the Penguins made going into 1992-93.
whoever thought of making a hockey stick wand a logo should jump off a cliff
I gotta admit that I really like the old Coyotes logo. It's so different from every other logo and it has this cool artistic feel to it. With the new one I can only think that the poor coyote must have sat down on a cactus.
I'm also a huge fan of the new Kings logo. The more I look at it, the more I like it. The shield form has this classic european vibe and there are nice details to look at. That along with the new Blue Jackets logo are the only two new logos i voted for.
J: i actually like that Blue Jackets logo, the new one is an improvement without a doubt. but the CB wasnt a bad start.
the only poor changes come from the Islanders and Ducks. the webbed D isnt bad but the orginal Mighty Ducks logo was well done though.
Wow, Phoenix is losing? I'm sorry, but their rebrand is just so bland and boring. The old one looked fantastic, as did the jerseys. It captured the heritage of the area around the team. I can't believe it's not winning by a landslide.
While I can't state the same reasons for the Caps rebrand, I've feel the blue, black, and gold color scheme, along with the new meaner logos, was fantastic. I'm surprised that's losing. Not to mention that blue jersey they had was beautiful.
Where's the 'neither' option for the Canucks?
Hey Dave,
Where's the 'both' option?
What was the % of last week's poll?
the old coyotes looked ridiculous...rebrande is alot better
dont know why crusaders is so popular...probably took a minute to make
t marks- its simple yet effective and most of the logos arent necessarily top quality, including the dragon. i agree that the crusaders logo is boring, but it works, so it gets my vote (notby much tho). mustangs have the best logo, but as ive said twice previously, all they did was look to the nfl and combine divisional rival teams in the san diego chargers and denver broncos to make an appealing new concept.
Here's a tidbit hat I've noticed for years: new logos tend to have the trademark ™ while logos that are not as recent (say after 5 years) are registered with a ®. How do teams decide on this? Or is there a legal process? My guess is the later.
That Long Island in a circle logo for the Islanders is truly horrid. The 'fish stick guy' logo is a good logo, its just the jerseys that were wonky.
Ray - It is a legal issue. Here's a link about R vs TM
Well, Mighty Ducks all the way over the new Ducks... I don't see what was the need to change it ? Same thing with the Sabres - the mad buffalo looks way better than the little ... buffalo ? :|
Gardien - The Ducks changed logos and dropped "Mighty" because Disney no longer owns them.
the ducks should go back to the mighty days, with the new colors. the mascot looks the same as the old logo, and looks cool. i would like to see the rebrand caps logo with red white and blue. i think it would work. buffalo is the worse out of everyone. the slug was the stupidest idea ever. the canucks skate would be pretty sweet in the green and blue. i guess what im getting to is take both logos and mesh them together, old logo with new colors
Hollywood, I think you are on to something. I've always thought the Ducks logo would look sweet in the new colors. Although I imagine it would kind of look like the "Eden Hall Ducks" on the banner at the end of D3. There it was colored black and red, which would not look too different from the orange. I suppose that the logo did not transfer with the team due to some odd copyright protection that Disney worked in during the sale.
As far as the Caps, I prefer the 90s logo or Weagle to the wordmake any day. The wordmark is so lame. The eagle was tough and the jersey had a sweet design.
The mean Buffalo head is the best primary the Sabres ever had. I wish it would have come over in the proper colors like the b-sword (which is the best logo they've had period). A team in England (Baskingstroke?) still uses the Buffalo head.
The Canucks - well, all of their logos pretty much suck. I prefer the Orca to the skate on spaghetti and stick in the rink. But I definitely prefer the blue and green color scheme over the other two.
There should be a series of runoffs:
Penguin w/ Scarf vs. Pittsburgh winner
New Caps Wordmark vs. Washington winner
Original Sabres vs. Buffalo winner
Purple/Yellow Crown vs. Los Angeles winner
Stick-in-rink vs. Vancouver winner
And then of course moved franchises
Atlanta vs. Calgary
Hartford vs. Carolina
Quebec vs. Colorado
Kansas City vs. Colorado (Rockies)
Colorado (Rockies) vs. New Jersey
Oakland vs. Cleveland
Cleveland vs. Minnesota (North Stars)
Minnesota (North Stars) vs. Dallas
Winnipeg vs. Phoenix
Ottowa Senators (Old) vs. St. Louis (Eagles)
Hamilton vs. Quebec City (Bulldogs)
And in special battles for replaced teams:
Ottowa Senators (Old) vs. Ottowa Senators (New)
St. Louis (Eagles) vs. St. Louis (Blues)
Colorado (Rockies) vs. Colorado (Avalanche)
Minnesota (North Stars) vs. Minnesota (Wild)
Atlanta (Flames) vs. Atlanta (Thrashers)
My Opinion About The Current Kings Logo:HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Way Too Busy!
The 90 Caps eagle logo has never sat well with me. Looking at it closely, I think it's because it's not abstract enough, and the result is one bizarre-looking eagle. Where does his head end, and his wing(s?) begin? Does he even have two wings? And where the heck is his other claw? That, and the whole off-shade of blue/copper/black combo never sat well with me for a team based out of the nation's capital (regardless of name - I've never liked any of the Wizards' looks either).
adamedg, i forgot about the eden hall ducks, but i think that would look pretty sweet. im a caps fan but im not a fan of the script being the logo. but since the caps have always had it in their past i dont hate it. but for some reason i have never liked the new ducks logos.
BOOO get that Pigeon/Robo/Corporate Penguins logo off of the list, can't stand that thing. So glad Mario Lemieux changed the logo back to the skating Penguin!!
Fun Fact about the Blue Jackets, the CB logo was originally going to be a shoulder patch. The original main logo was to be... STINGER.
Of all the terrible things GM Don MacLean did to that team, he needs to be applauded for preventing that travesty.
I don't get whats so great about the Caps wordmark. It's to plain and unoriginal. The eagle is better and reprisent's Washington better seeing as Washington is America's capital and the eagle is America's official animal.
The Islander's fisherman logo isn't bad either. It's better than putting NY Islanders in a circle.
i would be the first to a third jersey for the caps. to do a blue jersey with the weagle as the primary would be sweet
Whats really wrong with the Fisherman logo? Sure the jerseys were a monstrosity but the logo itself isn't bad. Oh yeah and the Weagle sucks.
why so much hate for the weagle moosey? and your right, theres nothing wrong with the fisherman logo. people dont like the logo because all they can see is those horrible jerseys
@dave:
chris already did the moved franchises competition.
@ADAMEDG the team that uses the head logo is the Basingstoke Bison
ducks logo wasn't because of copyright, it was because the new ownership wanted to create a new "identity" for the team and merge away from what some called a joke of a franchise because of disney
I always liked the Blue Jackets original primary mark a million times more than the current one. I don't like how the Ohio flag is in the logo because they're the COLUMBUS Blue Jackets, not the OHIO Blue Jackets.
Columbus and Phoenix are the only 2 that improved.
