Tournament Notes The preliminary portion of the AJHL Tournament of Logos wraps up this week. Scroll down to vote in the AJHL mini-tournament.
Tie-breaking Since the playoff format is not points-based, the winning logo will be determined by the total number of votes received rather than the percentage. In the unlikely event of an exact tie, a 24-hour run-off poll will be held the following day. (This will shorten the subsequent round of voting by one day.)

well thank you for fiulling in a few of the blanks for me and i appreciate your stance on both johnny and the orca, i am not saying i dislike johnny. in fact i really like the full body one. the johnny v is ok but i much prefer the full body one. that said, i am not sure if i can fully accept either johnny canuck logo as a full time replacement for the orca. I too loved the skate. it is to this day one of my fondest memories of my child hood. i had a Pavel Bure jersey and i still have it i intend on giving it to my son or daughter one day when I have one. I understand you and many others dislike of the orca bay ownership group and what they did to the canucks, but i guess for me because i wasn't in vancouver at the time when it happend i didn't know that there was a certain way they did things and made it kinda crappy for the fans i just liked the jerseys and logo. As a fan of the canucks I am sure it will just be a matter of time for me to warm up to whatever logo they use or jersey i mean i have since the black red yellow and white era i have every single jersey that they use. nothing prior (yet) but i have 3 era's of jersey for the canucks and much to the shegrin of my fiance, i am sure if and when they change their jerseys in the future whenever that may be i will be getting those jerseys too.
ps. does anyone know when the throw back jerseys will be made available to purchase. cause even though i am not a fan of the logo i am a fan of those jerseys i love the v on the sleeves and the green and blue stripe. heck if they used that with johnny full body and the blue counter part in the future i would be pretty happy about that.
@ Pavel Bure,
To answer your question, from what I have heard, the throwback jerseys will be made available in early October, just in time for the regular season. I plan on getting one myself. I do like the vintage Stick 'n Rink. I just never liked the blue stick in the white rink on the blue jerseys because it didn't stand out. Like you, if I had to pick just one version of Johnny Canuck as the primary, it would be the full-body version. Here's more! :) The full-body version has elements of the Canucks' first two crests. The stick that Johnny is holding is an element of the Stick 'n Rink and his skates are an element to our beloved Speeding Skate. Call it a coicidence if you will, but it works out quite nicely.
The worst thing about a team changing logos and colour schemes is that it divides its strongest link - its loyal fans like us. Can you imagine just HOW popular Johnny Canuck or even the Stick 'n Rink would be if it had been worn in '82 and '94?? Joe Borovich designed the Stick 'n Rink with the simplicity of the Canadiens' CH crest in mind. Mind you, JC should have been our original crest from Day One. We cannot change the past, but from Orland Kurtenbach, to Andre Boudrias, to Stan Smyl, to Tiger Williams, to Trevor Linden, to Pavel Bure, to Markus Naslund, to the Sedins, to Cody Hodgson, every single Canuck should of worn Johnny Canuck with the blue, green, and white from the very beginning and forever into the future. If that had been the case, there wouldn't be all this bickering and debating on what the Canucks should wear.
Cheers. :)
Thanks Andre. I remember a post from Kings fan and Icethetics regular Kevin Y last week on how he hated the Canucks blue and green colour scheme for our uniforms. It seems like one has to live in B.C. to understand why those shades represent the province so well. We already have the ocean and the forest covered, all we need is JC to fully represent the 'Nucks.

A blue jacket can also be used as slang for the black and blue striped wasps(Yes, they do exist) but like I said, I am exaggerating to make a point. It would be awful if they used that bug that they had for their logo.
The blue jackets did use the wasp for awhile in their first few years, and i think the mascot is still a wasp
i've never had a problem with the orca...what's wrong with it
T Marks, if you bothered to read the comments, you would know why.
For the hockey nuts out there when did Vancouver bring on the old Hartford Whalers colors as their own? I can't look at Vancouver now and not think "Whalers".
@ Brian,
The Canucks' current colours are their original colours, from 1970 to 1978. Blue for the water, green for the forests and white for the snow on the mountains. The Whalers, on the other hand, did have those colours too. However, green was their primary dark colour with blue trimming, while the Canucks use a light royal blue as their primary with green trimming. When Hartford changed to blue in 1992, they used navy blue and added a lot of silver trimming.
So, even though Vancouver has the same colours as Hartford's originals, the scheme is different. Like the Canadiens' and the NY Rangers' red, white, and blue. Same colours, but different use of them. The Winnipeg Jets also had red, white, and blue as well. Ottawa and New Jersey are guilty of copying Chicago's classic red, white, and black though.
@ Brian,
I forgot to mention, the Canucks went back to their original colours in 2007 after their rise in popularity as vintage colours. The dark blue, dark burgundy, silver, and white scheme had an ice-cold corporate look to it and I'm so glad that hideous colour scheme is now a thing of the past.
@BUREV and @IAN K
The name "Blue Jackets" was created in symbol of the State of Ohio, and particularly Columbus, being the main location that Union army uniforms were created during the Civil War. The "Blue Jackets" the name refers to were the (get this!) navy blue jackets that Union soldiers wore. The bug was a ploy from ownership to be the PRIMARY LOGO that original Blue Jacket GM/President/everything Doug MacLean refused to put his team in, so the Christmas Tree-like CBJ logo was created until they could design a more representative logo.
The term "Blue Jackets" has nothing to do with a bee, wasp, hornet, or other flying, walking, crawling, etc animal. It is strictly a tribute to the Union soldiers uniforms that were primarily made in Columbus, Ohio during the Civil War. This is also the meaning of the cannon that shoots after every CBJ goal, the Union Army hat on the shoulder patch, and the red, white, and blue color scheme.
Had it not been for the need for a mascot that wasn't a Civil War soldier or a talking cannon or something, the Bug probably never would have existed.

mascots are for little kids, no one really cares what the mascot looks like, or even its name
