I think the Sabres logo was more effective in the red and black color scheme. That had great contrast and looked sharp, nevertheless, the blue/yellow version shouldn't have an issue with the preds in this week's matchup.
Mabye my canucks can finally beat the blackhawks at something
With the majority on every poll but Yotes-Sens and Avs-Cats.
hmmm.... the Hawks/Nucks match-up is definitely going to be one to watch for the remainder of this week....
ugh. Both the Dallas and Atlanta secodnary logos are hideous. I refuse to vote!
lol. The canucks logo is going to win because those fans always stuff the ballots for everything Canucks related. This is coming from a canucks fan too lol. There are like topics on the canucks forum to vote for our logo even though it sucks.
It's a fricken V with a head on top of it. It looks so dumb.
I think the Capitals or Sabres have the best ones.
great, put the weagle up against the wild, whydon'tchya
when I found out that the islanders stripes represent their stanley cup wins, it became my favorite shoulder patch.
"Canucks Fan" - if that IS your real name, thanks for your opinion. I'm a Canucks fan too...and I just happen to like that logo better than the hawks logo...doesn't mean the hawks logo sucks or that I'm biased, it's just my opinion. Oh, I also voted on all the other pairings.
Connor Hanley, now YOU are a true Canucks fan haha
It would be a shame if that beautiful Hurricanes logo lost to a Primary Logo. Weagle or "The Sword in the B" should win the tournament.
as much as i bleed the blue and gold of the sabres, the LA Kings logo should win. that secondary logo is amazing and the reason why i bought there previous 3rd sweater. its just pure perfection
LMAO - People are voting for the lifesaver on a business card that the Sens wear - that must be the lamest logo on the list (followed closely by the foot on a dinner plate from Colorado).
Johnny canuck is gonna win this damn thing, its depressing
The Sasquatch, Yeti, Abominable Snowman, Big Foot symbol the Avs use on their shoulder patch is the most clever of all of them. It is very unique and it is a neat derivative from the primary idea of an Avalanche. Maybe it was the Yeti that caused the Avalanche...
I am kinda confused by the senators logo, can someone expand on what it is supposed to be. I also gotta say, although im a huge canucks fan, and I hope it wins. the weagle looks the best
Wow, last week there were people saying that the %s never change, but within hours the canucks-hawks went from 52-48 to 73-27!
That stupid "Vashon Cakes" Canuck logo CANNOT possibly beat that great Blackhawk logo!
In what alternate universe could the Bluenote and the =O= be losing?
i guess i'm goin to vote for the hurricanes even though its not a hurricane warning, it's a tropical storm wanring if i remember correctly.
@Canucks Fan
The Sens logo is an O for Ottawa, on a red and black stripes background.
The jerseys of the 1920's Ottawa Sentors were a barbershop pole of red and black stripes with a big O on the front. Their secondary logo is made to represent that.
The Kings logo was once a primary, weird how it isn't treated like the Blues and Bruins logos.
@moosey
It was, but not for a very long time, and it's not the primary currently, so yeah.
personally i think the kings should use this logo as their crest and put that awful crown on the shoulders. or get rid of the crown altogether. or bring back the old crown. anything really, other than the current look.
I'm always amazed the 'Canes flag logo doesn't get more love. I get that it's not factually accurate--one flag for tropical sotrm, two for hurricanes--but who says logos need to be factually accurate? Sharks aren't green. Avalanches don't have feet, the Blue JACKETs logo is a different article of clothing altogether...
The sabers logo looked more menecing when their color scheme was in red and black but a lot of teams have red in them no matter where you go in sports. Either way. i like the effort and it gets the point across. Being a blackhawks fan i have to vote for the 'hawks one on this. Surprised that so many people like Johnny Canuck. Peace
The Boston Bruins have a great logo. But it doesn't look NEARLY as good on a SHOULDER as the 'Cane flag does!
Also @Adam, a single storm flag can also be used as a hurricane watch flag, as well as a tropical storm flag. So it is somewhat accurate.
Ottawa's logo looks like a big ZERO, so it fails for me.
Last week some guy was complaining that this tourney is rigged against Ottawa and how it always faces tough logos. Well now it's up against an equal logo and it is still losing, so clearly it doesn't matter who they face.
No clue as to why so many think the Kings alternate (which they hardly wear and are likely to phase out soon - it lasted as a primary for about a year) is superior the the Blues. How can the Blues have won the last pole and come in 2nd in the secondary logo, but suddenly the Kings is a better logo.
Whatever, it's hands-down better than that Kings crest/shield/too-much-going-on-what-is-that-a-horse-and-a-sun?. Seems like some folks just voted against the Blues out of spite cuz they didn't think it should have won before...
Also, the fact the Islanders even got 600+ is truly a joke. Probably 10 different people all voting.
The Johnny Canuck V is a classic. The Vachon Cakes comment simply does not wash and it's comparison to that Quebec-based foodbrand is tiresome. As for Canuck Fan's comment, it's a V designed like the Stick 'n Rink logo with the head of Johnny Canuck, not just a "head'. The Canucks are the first team in years to use stylized V logo. Time to get rid of the ridiculous Orca Bay brand and it's time to go with Johnny Canuck full-time and ASAP.
i completely agree with you andre, the orca is just plan ugly. @ Victóbal, its not that the blues won the best logo, its becuase they reused the primary logo. thats just lazy. i personaly hate the new panthers shoulder logo. but i give them credit for trying something new. the blues and bruins just reused their primary logos, why not try something new. for the blues, i think they should try and do the trumpit again, but not as corny. and the bruins could of used the old logo from the winter classic, or hell a pot of beans would of been sweet.
Why try something new when its voted the best logo in the league? Is it lazy for KFC to keep making chicken? Should the be penalized for not trying to have burgers?
@ MOOSEY G it's because people don't want the primary to be the same as the secondary. It IS lazy.
Lazy is the wrong word here, they've built their brand. It features one of the most acclaimed logos in the game, why go away from that? I will take a superior looking primary on the shoulder than a half a**ed new design just so people don't view my franchise as "lazy".
Gotta agree with Moosey here, there is no need for the Blues to come up with a brand new logo just to put it on the shoulders of their third jersey. They already have their identity, the Bluenote is their symbol, why add a new logo for a new logo's sake when what they have is perfect? Any other logo they could put there will most likely not be as good as what they already have. That would be pointless. They created a whole new logo for the third jersey, so to put the primary on that jersey's shoulders is perfectly fine and a much better idea than doing something different. Don't look at it as a secondary logo tournament, it's a shoulder logo tournament. Putting primary logos on third jersey shoulders is not out of the ordinary or lazy, it's sensible.
@ HGG447
if that's the case then every team should put their primary on the shoulder of their 3rd jersey. And that would look boring and repetative. Just like what the Blues and Bruins are doing.
Am I the only person who doesn't like the 'Canes secondary logo?
@ Burev
Not every team has their brand solidified to the point where they don't want or need to develop new logos to help shape their identity. Not every team can get by with just one or two logos, and not every team needs four or five. You call it boring and repetitive, I call it good branding. If every team had big logosets it would be exhausting and overwhelming, wouldn't it? The Blues are identified by the Bluenote and therefore that logo is what they use as their primary crest and on the shoulders of their thirds. New and different logos are not always necessary, or desirable. The Blues don't need or want to alter their look with a new logo.
The Blues and Bruins aren't the first two teams to wear their primary logo on the shoulders of their thirds. It's been done before. In fact, it was pretty common before the switch to the reebok edge uniforms. Just because some teams chose to rebrand themselves doesn't mean everyone has to, nor should the teams that don't be accused of lacking creativity. I wouldn't mind it one bit if everyone used their primary logos as their third jersey shoulder patches, at least it provides for continuity between all the threads a team wears. Like I said, boring, or good branding?
and i can't say i've ever been struck by how boring or repetitive any shoulder patch is, ever. unless, i guess, it's boring in and of itself. not in how it is used elsewhere on other jerseys.
I've never looked at a shoulder patch and thought "that's lazy/boring", but I do often look at some logo and jersey designs and think "why did they even bother?". The previous Chicago third, the black version of the home jersey, is a perfect example. Same goes for the current Canucks set, where the home and third are (virtually) identical aside from the logo on the chest. If the rumours are true about the Rangers' new thirds, they'll be guilty too. New logos and jersey designs are often embarrassingly bad when they go too far off the deep end, but its because some teams avoid risk that we have so many never-changing, bland team identities. Third jerseys are a place for teams to experiment. If they don't try new things, they're wasting everyone's time. The Blues have had some godawful jerseys in their time, so now they're playing it safe. Their third is IMO one of the better ones. Too bad their primaries are somehow both bland AND the personification of what's wrong with the Reebok style cues
@ HGG447
I see what you are saying and I agree to some extent.
Not every team needs 4 or 5, but I think 3 would be perfect. One for the primary, one for the 3rd, and one for the shoulders. Even if the blues just altered the blue note slightly so it has more of a "shoulder" feel. And I know the blues and Bruins aren't the firsts to use their primary as their shoulder, but they are the only ones that still are.
@ ADAM
I agree that that chicago jersey was a waste, and that the canucks 3rd is identical to its primary, and that the rangers new 3rd will be a waste too. I see that they are playing it safe, but that's what makes it boring. I'm just saying that they should experiment a little more, not too much, but a little more.
i guess lazy was the wrong word. but burev has got it right. i do find it boring to see the same logo reused. but i guess its just me.
@ HOLLYWOOD
Thank you.
i just think some things work for some teams and other things work for others. some need a change, some i'd rather not see do anything new ever. eventually something has to stick, right? at least for a good long while.
in the end i think all teams ought to be more concerned with whether fans recognize their look rather then whether fans are bored by their look.
The Sabres should clearly use the AHL Buffalo Bisons old logo (the bottlecap) for their shoulder patch, because this is also the Bisons 40th anniversary of their 5th and final championship (and season) this coming season. They were 5-tme regular season champs, 8-time division champs and 5-time calder champs (10-time finalists). How the Sabres organization forgets/refuses to honor that legendary team is just beyond me...
@ HGG447
Now you're speaking my language!
